In Steve Kilbey's words (paraphrased from memory); underlying melancholy and certain nursery-rhyme qualities limited it's commercial success.

If this is your favourite song by The Church you should listen the wonderful acoustic live version of it from Newport 2005 that was released as b-side to the single "Easy" in 2006. You find it also on youtube!

Despite the popularity of other Australian bands, the Church would have to be the Australian band that got played the most on my turntable and later, CD player. This song has to be a timeless masterpiece

This is utterly epic. Its the soundtrack to my early teens. Its heartbreaking they never achieved the success they truly deserved.

Steve Kilbey apologised for this song on the liner notes of Hindsight. Seance was the album that was going to explode them internationally. He thought this song was the wrong choice as the first single. Unbelievable.....

Amo a Steve Kilbey, esta canción es maravillosa, creo que The Church es uno de los mejores grupos de mi existencia, gracias a Peter, Richard y Marty. Por hacer muchas canciones que sus fans seguiremos por siempre.

Great Album. Great Band. We in New Zealand didn't mind admitting that Australia produced great musicians. That's about it mind you.

True, but also some of Australia's best talent came from NZ and then we'd market them to the rest of the world as Aussies.

I cannot believe that a lot of their songs were not number one hits here in the U.S. these guys had and still do have tremendous talent , look up Steve Kilbey he is thriving in Australia and still putting out great stuff.

A good song. But Seance is such a great album that this song is only about my 7th favorite (of 12 songs, if you include the 2 b-sides). Shame that the Church turned their back on the album, more or less. Although I did go to a concert where they played It Doesn't Change. But I've never heard of any concert at which they played Disappear?, which is my fave ever Church song. If they had played it live, we might have got to hear the guitar solo in full, which gets mixed out partway through in the album/only version :-(
