The Chateau Diaries: LALANDERS UNITE!!!

The gravel for the courtyard ARRIVES!!! It's all hands on deck (well, on rakes) to even it out. As we rake, dance and frolic, Lalande's beautiful new courtyard takes shape before our eyes.
In the chateau, Cat and Philip vainly attempt to purge my porcelain collection, and Mummy unleashes her inner goddess in a stunning photoshoot with Renee...

@@hopewalker5764 I'm not suggesting Stephanie was ever poor. She grew up with a decent standard of living & had an outstanding education. Clearly, her parents were hard-working. Her mummy's work ethic in the garden and commitment to her daughter's dream speaks well of her fine character. Her parents obviously made sacrifices as well as some great investments in their time. They instilled strong & decent values in their daughter too. It makes no sense to begrudge the woman for how she was raised or any advantage it gave her. She is a credit to her legacy. In the end, I believe her to be a woman of integrity. If you do not, perhaps you need to move on. Life is too short to resent someone for their wealth or anything else for that matter. She did not steal anyone else's blessing. If you are faithful to your calling in life, you will be blessed too. 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

💡Perfect idea! Although they could probably finesse some petite lamps or even regular under-cabinet lights for it too. Those beautiful dishes deserve a bit of pomp & ceremony. The mirror would only add to the sparkle😉. ~~~~~~~~~~ 🤔 I do worry about the integrity of those self-adhesive strips Phillip mentioned to hang those small plates as art (esp. if they are valuable to Stephanie). 😣Even after following weight limit instructions on package, we experienced adhesive fail. Several frames dropped off our walls all on their own within a few months. 💲Had to go to extra expense of replacing the broken glass in all of them🤣. 🍽 For plates, used this paper-clip hook tutorial a while back & haven't lost one yet. Plus, the hot glue does not harm plate. It can be removed later w/o damaging it. (We did reinforce the hot glue again 2 yrs later👍.) inmyownstyle.com/how-to-make-a-plate-hanger.html

The sound and color of the granite gravel is fantastic! Again, suggest stone or concrete curbing around the fountain bed to create border to prevent gravel from moving into beds and likewise, soil from moving into gravel. Will also help prevent vehicles from "cutting corners". Must admit I totally agree with Phillip and Kat about the various porcelain pieces - giving up some, means room for NEW! The black and white photo of Isobel is superb - captures her calm elegance and exquisite poise! Percy will be delighted.

🎉Agree. Gravel looks great! All the courtyard 🌱garden beds need edging to define them -- whether or not that is cement, stone or another material. It will help keep the gravel out of the beds in the long run too. Priority #1 is proper drainage dug in a channel (filled with stone) around interior perimeter of new beds to prevent that💧rain water💦 pooling right against the Chateau any more.

How wonder FULL it is to start off with a gravel raking dance party (with Dan and Steve joining the Robe Mafia, no less) and ending up with a tango (after Selmar traded the crowbar for dancing shoes). And Mummy’s photo is beyond wonderful. I can’t comment on Kat and Phillip’s china intervention on Stephanie, as I am a dishaholic in recovery🤗

A lot of beauty in that vlog from the porcelain to the newly gravelled courtyard, the formidable robed workforce to Marie's flower arrangements but the clear winner of the beauty contest is indeed Mummy Isabelle. Her photograph is so glamourous, classy and dignified just like the lady herself.

Gasped when I saw how high you stacked those plates. For storing antique china, it’s best not to stack more than eight plates high. It puts too much weight and pressure on the bottom plates. Just a friendly tip! :-)

I highly recommend for your gravel a Gillhams gravel rake which is 2 metres wide and is pulled along by a rope. Fantastic!

I feel compelled to come to Stephanie's defence, I don't think she has reached hoarder level yet, admittedly, 1 or 2 plates/chargers were a bit on the dodgy side. However, in general, the things she keeps are integral to the chateau, can be re-used as is, adapted or repurposed. The chateau still has lots of rooms to renovate and she has the storage space, unlike most of us. So, it's good to see things being salvaged for reuse and not thrown away.

The next time someone here on the farm questions why I am delivering a cake for the garden volunteers in my dressing gown...I will point them to Lalande and your Vlogs - people doing the rake! Well done! Keep up the 'robe mafia' you have a partner in Tasmania. Long live those who do, in house garments. Of course, we dress when we venture out - but we live in our homes and we do as we please...your renovations are coming along brilliantly! As for the sticks that are now plants. That's the patience and joy of gardening. I have many and I treasure them. That courtyard is coming along a treat.xx

🍽 Also possess a wild dish obsession that I came by quite naturally. Just 💕love beautiful platters, plates, bowls & goblets in a variety of patterns & styles. My parents enjoyed switching it up for meal times too -- & not just for holidays. Nowadays, I still largely stick to the💧D/W💦safe variety. Of course, that is no reason to scrimp on style! Always found gingerly👋hand-washing delicate dishes to be hazardous to my peace of mind😨. BTW, if you're single (or a couple) who loads that large kitchen appliance over the course of 2-3 days (to save on water💧usage), you must own more than a set of four of everything anyway. 💥So, begone minimalists😈. Used to be in awe of SIL filling it to capacity daily, sometimes running multiple loads, but that what's happen when you cook for 4! 😞 Always felt guilty hoarding my parents & grandparents huge collection in addition to my own, but it brings me such positive memories. Love my two vintage sets of bone China. One from my fraternal grandma in white with delicate silver details around the rim, another in bold cranberry & white floral pattern from my mother. 🤔 It doesn't feel quite so decadent if you actually use what you own, but it makes me happy to gaze at it too. Frankly, I don't know enough ppl to have a big dinner party, but that doesn't mean a smaller trio can't enjoy them! No excuse not to set a pretty tablescape for yourself or a guest. Life is to be celebrated 🥂. 📺That's why it is such a vicarious pleasure to 👀watch the ⚜Chateau Diaries. Enjoy the bustle of cooking for a hungry hoard. 😍Stephanie's great appreciation of lovely things & dining in spectacular style is soul satisfying!
