OUR IDYLLIC CHATEAU WEDDING!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is a story of a romance that spanned continents and proof that love can blossom at any age. For one unforgettable day, the chateau was enchanted in a midsummer night's dream, and love reigned supreme!
I'm so excited about this video! I can finally reveal Mummy and Percy's idyllic wedding, which took place here at the Chateau de Lalande. Because it had been filmed for the British TV show, 'Escape to the Chateau DIY', I couldn't show it until it had been aired - I didn't want to spoil the surprise for the viewers! But it was broadcast this week, so here are the official photos and the story of the most magical day that we've ever experienced at the chateau. A truly fairytale wedding!
This wedding was a triumph of the Lalande spirit - everyone joined together and shared their talents and creativity to create something truly special.

I want to share something. It’s been a rough month; I’ve been separated from my mum for ages as she is immunocompromised, my country has been on lockdown for a long long time, and even beyond that my outlook on life has been pretty cynical and bitter. I think I was a bright and happy child, once. Now I feel resentment for the very birds singing outside my window. An aching-bone kind of solitude and disconnection, a detachment from the world. For a long time I closed my heart to things I loved; things I considered pretty and lovely now felt empty, shallow and frivolous. I could feel myself turning.. not gray, per se, but neutral. Neutral makeup on neutral clothes, neutral expression on my face that can neither be mistaken for a smile or a frown. Stark utilitarian minimalism is the way to go, downsize this scale-down that. Bare minimum. Get by. Low expectations means less disappointment. And then I found you. Your channel, your smile, your infectious joy of living and unabashed love of pretty trinkets that are sometimes just pretty trinkets. For God’s sake, you lived in a French chateau. Such a far-removed life from me, climbing the corporate ladder, running the rat race in the big city. You, with a genuine reverence for history, art for art’s sake, and a connection to people long gone... I’ve noticed recently that I smile a bit more. I put ribbons in my hair, I didn’t even know I still kept those. I allowed myself chocolate, and wearing silk blouses even though I’ll just be in the house. It’s nice and cool, I like the way it feels against my skin. Like defiance against indifference. Thank you. I like it here. You have made my quarantine bearable.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this comment. It's really resounded with me. Because I was also a happy, bright child, always optimistic. And that lasted until my father's death in 2009. But for a full eight years (!) after that, I lost myself. I would wake up feeling tentative, afraid at whether I'd be happy or sad that day. Insignificant losses would overwhelm me with grief, and things that used to bring me joy would seem grey. And then, very suddenly, one day, after eight years, I woke up feeling better, and instantly knowing that it would last. I was 'back'. It's the strangest thing. Shortly afterwards, I started filming for the UK show and making these vlogs, and that solidified my recovery. Sometimes we need to see our lives from the outside to realise how lucky we are. So if my videos are doing anything to help you find happiness in the little things, that really means a lot to me. We can be our own worst enemies in blocking ourselves from seeing the beauty in the world around us!

Lia, I've been a nurse for 24yrs, I've worked Trauma, ER, Cardiac, I've seen the worst, I've lived through unbearable stress and mental and physical torture all for the sake of my craft, nursing. I was also a travel nurse for 10yrs, I've been all over the USA and I've seen quite a lot of pain and suffering. I was like you, exhausted, drained, flat affect and just done! While I was in Rhode Island on my last ever assignment I brought along my Pomeranian Daisy, I stayed in Federal Hill the historic district, which was enchanting. I walked the dog one morning and her little nose was sniffing the air and she dragged me to the next block, I hit culinary gold! There were resturants and shops will all kinds of goodies!! Daisy, the Pom and I got some sausage and peppers at the one Italian shop and sat in the warm air and had a snack, I then walked further down and found a French pastry shop and bought more goodies, there was also a chocolate shop, I got a few things and bagels and cream cheese for the nurses that night at work. Every day I then went for a walk and explored that interesting city, there were little shops for witches, lol, where I bought scented candles and pretty hand made charms, I traveled to Salem MA to see the where the witch trials took place, the graves, the old houses, escaped over to Cape Cod and had a ball, just me and my Pom. I met so many interesting people and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I knew what I was missing, I forgot how to live life, I forgot how short life was even though I saw death everyday, young and old. I had my nose so deep into nursing and all the trauma that I just forgot there is more to life and I was missing it!! I forgot how to take chances, how to dress with some sparkle, "I was always in scrubs", how to reconnect with the earth and healthy people, I forgot there WERE healthy people!! I met my husband at 45, he was on a game on the internet, we were just friends, at 50 one day he said, "Come to Colorado, I'm in love with you!" I sold the house in SC, packed up and off I went, I never thought twice, I took a chance and we are together still, I'm 58 and we are still best friends and in love. I gave up work and now I call myself a kept woman, LOL! I garden, cook, clean, take care of pets and my husband and I have learned how to live life again. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, sparkle, always sparkle! Wear a sparkly top or jewelry, or makeup or whatever makes you feel good! I have let my hair grow to my waist, it's white/silver and waves, I wear pretty sparkly hair clips, I've turned into a free spirit and I've trained myself to stop worrying, I walk with my head high to see everything around me, I turned off the cell phone, I make direct eye contact with people, I smile and say, "hello!" if they don't say hello back I don't care!! LOL!! Stephanie truly is the embodiment of, Live, Love, Laugh, she is truly delightful and adds to my life! God bless and stay well!

Lia Your comment was beautifully written and very insightful. Having been through some intense trauma, including a cancer diagnosis at age 33, 7 months of weekly chemotherapy, and horribly mutilating surgeries, it struck a chord with me. It can be hard to celebrate what is good, when the pull to endlessly mourn what has been lost feels so ever-present. I’m no expert, however for me regaining my spark has seemed to come down to doing my best to choose to see the good, the possibility, the happiness and the beauty in the world around me wherever I can, when I am able to. I wish you all the best💗

The Chateau Diaries Stephanie, I’ve just arrived at the moment in this vlog where you mention that your mother had cancer in her mid forties, and it immediately brought me to tears. I was diagnosed at age 33, and have now been in remission 18 months. As I’m sure your mother knows, it is a very dark, heavy thing to endure cancer treatment and be grappling with one’s mortality, especially at such a young age. But the tears I’m crying are mostly due to the fact that your mother who is so vivacious and adventurous and industrious and delightful and full of life that I never would have imagined she’d also had cancer, has not only survived, but also thrived for so many years afterward, it gives me hope. It really does. Thank you both💗

I did that too! What a tribute she gives to her Mother, her father, to life. I interrupted to email my friend, AGAIN, to just watch the beginning of this video if nothing else. I didn't even know what the rest of it said. Stephanie's honesty about her life is moving. I do worry that if she hits a hard spot, she'll have trouble continuing her story in public. But I think she will find a way.

Could there be a kinder daughter? I don't think there could be! YOU are so amazing Stephanie! The honor you have given your mother and her new spouse is extraordinary. I like you have a step father that I love. He and my own good mom have passed away, but their marriage is a wonderful memory for me. I also wanted to say that with your permission, I would like to quote you in a book I am writing about love and choosing a spouse. You said, “Finding Love at any age should be celebrated because it is miraculous!” I could not agree with you more! My young 18 year old son found your channel and he shared it with me. While I am not living in anything as huge or magnificent as your beautiful home, I do live in Idaho on the edge of a small town in an 8 bedroom home. I love our home. My spouse built this for me and our children 21 years ago. I love it! We have planted 100 trees here. We only have half an acre but I feel so deeply blessed. The one thing that you have reminded me about today is INSPIRATION! You are so so SO inspiring. Again, while it is not my mission (as it is yours) to redo an huge Chateau, you have indeed inspired me to want my very own home to be beautiful. I think in America especially, we forget that timeless beauty can be brought to any home with some thought and work. My own mother was a designer. I am also creative and currently, as I watched your video today I am working on a design of a lovely daisy and bumblebee garland that I am making for my office here to celebrate spring. I am also opening this fall (God willing with this virus and pandemic!) a small 12 child preschool called "The Busy Bee Preschool." I love bumblebees and so I want to incorporate them throughout our home here. You father's art really is so beautiful and whimsical! What a woman and life you have lived! I want you to know that I appreciate you so much. Here I am sitting in Idaho far from you having only been to France one in my whole life, yet you are encouraging me to create a more lovely space here in my home. Thank you! You are such a lovely person. I wish I had time (and talent) to come there and help you accomplish your dreams! The very best to you in all you do. God must be so deeply proud of you! I am sure your own father is in Heaven and looking down on you and so proud of all that you're becoming! Carry On! You are needed in this world!

It felt like an absolute privilege, dearest delight-filled Stephanie, your showing us your precious Mummy and Percy's wedding and everything and everyone it took to bring this sacred event to fruition. I was carried away into fairyland - which, for this pixie-imp, is a dream come true...sigh - and imbibed every single visceral moment of this delectable and divine delight. The clothes, the fairy lights, the arrangements both of flowers and of communal spaces for the day. This was a true family event. What an honour to witness it. A humble and melting thank you for this gift. All love to you, Jacqueline from New Zealand xox

And thanks also for sharing your mum’s wedding you are a precious daughter who knows how with your family and your now family from Africa throw a special party and make her mum feel like a princess. I began watching the Château diaries and related content a few months ago. I’m delighted in the transformation of Lalonde since I first discovered it. However, this episode took the cake! I found myself tearing up and having a huge lump in my throat throughout the recap of your mothers special day.. i’m grateful I only saw this episode for the first time today as I have become so attached to many of the characters and delight in experiencing life at the Château vicariously. Thank you for sharing this very intimate time with all of us.

One of the reasons we like watching your vlogs is that we get to meet so many nice people. The back story to your mum and Percys meeting was lovely. They are such a lovely couple, and you are a great daughter. Nice to see Gerry in his tartan formal wear. He always brightens things up.

Having to cancel travel plans due to covid19, my husband and I have decided to turn our garden (here in Ontario, Canada) into a enchanted midsummer nights dream forest with pergola, twinkle lights, and couches. We ordered the pergola and the next day(a little behind in the series) I watched your episode where the pergola was put up. Then we ordered the couches and the next day I watched the garden furniture being brought out. Now I have decided to make the midsummer nights dream theme and this video came up. It's fate! I now have so many ideas on hanging fairy lights and chandeliers and greenery from the pergola! Thank you, this series has made my quarantine! ❤🇨🇦

Oh, my goodness--where to begin?!! Isabelle and Percy's wedding was completely gorgeous and beyond spectacular. Your mother is such an adorable lady and a beautiful force of nature. And Percy is so gallant and sweet. I can't imagine any place else their wedding would have been so amazingly beautiful, creative, joyful, and serious. Truly, Isabelle was beautiful and radiant, Percy dashingly handsome, and all the planning and participants created a wedding to remember. Seeing the photograph of Marie's floral arrangements in the ice buckets, then the pergola draped in lace, foliage and fairy lights, was beyond belief and brought chills along with tears. Well done doesn't begin to say how stunning their wedding was. Thank you for sharing Isabelle and Percy's beautiful wedding with us. Merci beaucoups!!! 🙏🏻💗🦄🏰❣️🏰🦄💗🙏🏻

Absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this lovely love story. We love your mummy and Percy they are such a beautiful couple their wedding looked amazing and so beautiful and full of love. I’m praying that this time of uncertainty ends soon so mummy and Percy can be reunited again. We also hope Scotsman the amazing Gerry has been able to start his treatments and that he is getting better so he can be ready to come to the chateau as soon as this world wide lockdown is over and it’s safe to travel again. We are lucky to have things like FaceTime Skype and any apps that allow us to see our loved ones no matter where they are in the world. Thank you for sharing this beautiful part of your familys life and we hope you all stay safe best wishes from 🇦🇺
