Love Anderton's, but quit searching for silly "influences". Youre trying too hard, Lee. Clapton didn't single handedly invent electric blues...it's a big world out there. And when you interview someone as talented and humble and kind as Kirk Fletcher, maybe talk about Kirk Fletcher. If I were Lee, I would quite literally apologize to Kirk.

I think that we need to stop trying comparing every single licks to someone else's style. This is Kirk Fletcher, not Stevie Clapton...We need to enjoy and it's really easy so stop making it harder...nice job and very nice album congrats!

True, althpugh i hear the same things captain is ...it did make me cringe a little for kirk....i mean he is such a great blues guitarist and not a rookie in any sense of the word....so comparing is little off putting!!

Lets face it. We all imitate our heroes. SRV did it. Jimi did it. Mayer did it (can’t tell you how many times I’ve read stupid comments about how Mayer just copies SRV - but most of his music is not actually blues - morons parroting what they read from idiots). Clapton etc etc. Nobody that loves music ignores who comes before them. Hearing how others approach the guitar is how we learn unless you’re a savant. So yes comparing is lame. Just enjoy the now of music and don’t overthink it. The Capn is on the spot for conversation so I give him a pass as I would be dying for something to talk about too.

David D well I do agree John Mayer doesn’t 100% copy srv but I disagree. While a bunch of his music is more leaning towards pop rock, if you’ve seen him live, every solo, every little note is very bluesy influenced, especially the trio stuff. He just hardcore played the music industry. He wanted to play blues, but nobody wanted that at the time, so he built his fan base on pop then basically said ha screw you guys I wanna play blues. That’s what who do you think I was is about 😂

Ive had this itch for a special bluesy sound for a long time. I came close to it with Bonamassas newer stuff, but it wasnt quite there. Not exactly what i was looking for to fill the bluesy void. This is. Sir. Kirk delivers exactly what ive been wanting for so long. The fact that mr.Kirk seem to be genuinely kind and fun makes it that much greater aswell. Thank you for this.

We all steal licks from our influences that's why they are our influences. each players own style is a compilation of bits and pieces of things we've heard and stuck in our own tool box's then we add some of our own personality to those bits and pieces and rearrange them to suit the situation at hand. I heard the same thing Captain said and I agree totally "but" like some of the other commenters stated he kept going back to who Kirk sounded like, I belive he meant it to compliment Kirk. He does sound really great

Yeah I have to agree Kirk is a unique talent that needed to be celebrated a little more. This Clapton worship was completely overdone from Lee's part. Clapton for the largest part of his life was an incoherent alcoholic with little or any idea what he was doing. A fact he in his own words is ashamed and embarrassed about.

Why does Lee keep comparing Kirk's playing style to the blues greats who went before? We all know that third/fourth generation blues players are re-cycling to keep it alive. Kirk is a great player and comes across as a really nice gent, who is humble enough to laugh off Lee's naive comments. I found the interview quite arrogant and patronising but hey ho, I suppose that's what happens when folks get caught up in the hyped up world of social media.
