I love this movie because I am a huge Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin fan, more than that though, when I hear this opening song from Paint Your Wagon I get the vision of people storming Sutter's Mill and other locations in Northern California during the 1840's gold rush era, so exciting a time to be alive. I love this movie. Next to Sound of Music, it is one of my favorites. It came out right around the time I was married in 1969, great memories.

When my kids were teenagers, this song was used in a truck commercial. They complained it was a dumb commercial and I said it was from one of the most fabulous musicals ever. I rented it and sure enough, it became a family favorite.

Really love this, and many of the songs from the movie! Paint Your Wagon was one of my Dad's favorite movies of all time, he passed away last month sadly. However, I've been really enjoying being able to listen to these songs again anytime and remember the times he and I shared watching this movie as I grew up. Thank you

My son, who is currently 8 years old, loves the movie and the soundtrack. He was with me today in my classroom as I was working on prep stuff for first day next week. He settled down with the film and watched it straight through again for probably the fifth or sixth time since he was 6 I believe! When I was a very naive 15 year old I recommended it to a Mormon friend of mine at the video store. His father looked at me with a strange look and politely declined. I didn't clue in too fast.

I wish someone would have filmed the original play. That script intrigued me. I did not like the movie changes. I was disappointed when I saw the revision, it was ok, but didn't enthrall me like reading the original script did about 15 years ago... Wish I could re-read to see what I liked so much about it, besides the guy coming out and singing along with his guitar. Didn't help that in last night's show the guys from Tennessee and China did not have accents that were appropriate for their characters.

The show, as produced on Broadway, had some to do with gold and lots to do with racial prejudice. The very pleasant songs are retained but the bulk of the plot is lost. Of course, race relations at the time the film was made would have been a difficult issue.
