The Buffalo River | A 144 Mile Canoe Trip Down Our First National River | Part 1

We begin our journey down the Buffalo River just outside Boxley, Arkansas. It’s late February and snow is still melting after a recent winter storm, but our paddles are finally in the water and we are eager to start covering some miles on this long anticipated canoe trip!

Yep, it started out very cold! There were times I definitely wished I had one haha. It surprisingly warmed up quite a bit as the week went on. Thanks again for the feedback! I’m just glad you’re enjoying our adventures!

Good question! A couple reasons. I had tried to complete the whole BR a few times prior, but (as you well know) it’s so dependent on rain and I either had too much rain or not enough. Due to our schedules this time, we had a few weeks in February and March available to us and decided to take the first date that worked out with water levels (which just happened to be the end of February). And you’re totally correct, I really wanted to start at Boxley because I’d never been able to run that section before. Also, I just love paddling the BR in winter! It’s so quiet out there and I almost always have the whole place to myself it seems when I go in winter. I actually just took a friend of mine this last weekend to run the stretch between Steel Creek and Kyles. Such a beautiful area! Thanks for watching along with us!

Absolutely! I’m not 100% sure because I didn’t grab a GPS pin, but I’m pretty sure it’s about a mile past the Erbie campground a little after river mile 45. I think it’s that sharp 90 degree bend in the river. There a creek running into the Buffalo on river left and it’s a pretty easy walk up to that ledge. Hands down it was one of our favorite spots on the river to camp. Not too much space to spread out, but the view was incredible. I hope you can find it and end up camping there sometime. If you do, let me know!

Thanks! That’s incredible! That’s a long trek from NH but it’s definitely going to be worth it :) You guys have some great paddling up there too. I was in Maine last year and drove through NH and I definitely want to come back up that way! Do you have any favorite routes around you?

@Beyond_The_Treeline yes, we have a lovely route on the Saco River. It's our go-to as it's nearby. The section I do is not as well know amongst most people coming from out of state to paddle the river. It's a real easy going wilderness stretch. Easy paddling, real comfortable 2 night 3 day trip with lots of great sandbags for camping. If you decide to do it, let me know, this is an instance where local knowledge might help. You from arkansas?

@@CreationDust777 that sounds amazing! I’ll definitely let you know if I’m in the area or plan to do that. I love getting local advice. I’m actually living in Oklahoma right now, but Arkansas is just so close and lots of great paddling and backpacking, so I’m over there a lot.

You would both be much more stable in your canoe during the rapids, if you would install kneepads and kneel.

I actually do have kneeling pads installed and use them quite regularly. But looking back, I realized that I definitely didn’t use them as much as I could have on this trip haha.

Your logo and intro are a straight rip off of @Northern Scavengers

I'm not going to lie, I've gotten a lot of inspiration over the years from @NortherScavenger, but even I can't take credit for my logo. I gave my wife some very loose ideas on what I wanted and she came up with the design on her own. And I guarantee you she has no idea who Northern Scavenger is lol. I've got a lot of respect for Noah and Alex and love their channel. I definitely wouldn't want to steal anything from what they are doing. And if they feel my logo is a rip off their's then I'd be more than happy to come up with something different. Thanks for the concern! But I can assure you that I have nothing but respect for @NorthernScavenger and stealing their logo was not even a thought when my wife designed this one.
