Great story Chris,I've heard another story recently of a mountain biker who was racing down a mountain and rounding a curve on to a sudden steep incline and was suddenly visciously attacked by a huge mountain lion.He also virtually gave up expecting death because the cat had mauled him so bad and had him in a firm grip on the back of his neck and restricted his breathing.Just as he was fading a 9to 10 foot sasquatch appeared out of nowhere grabbed the lion with two huge hands lifted it above it's head and brought it down on its shoulders so hard it snapped it's spine instantly. The guy was similar to your guy where he was still conscious cause be had a rush of adrenaline. If that wasn't enough the guy said it took a look at him snarled took one leap over a huge boulder at the side of the trail and about 10 seconds later a female sasquatch appeared and it was then his mind and blood loss made him pass out.Next thing he remembers is being rushed to hospital in a EMT van.He asked the medic how they got to him and he said a ranger walked out of his cabin and he was lying just in front of him.Wow what a tale guys!!

VERY interesting story! I live in Arkansas and have floated the Buffalo more than once during the day. I have also heard of MANY Sasquach encounters across the U.S. and Canada. I never had an encounter with anything of this nature while in the woods, BUT, I believe these encounters are SO PREVALENT as to make any normal person take notice. I believe they are out there.

Dear Chris, We love decently, but not horrifically, scary stories that we can listen to as a family, minus the little ones we put in bed first. For mom, dad, our tween, and teen, your stories have brought so much fun and fascination into our home! We have a family genetic disorder that saddly keeps us from camping and hiking ourselves, so when we found you, a person we can watch who can do this for us, we were just thrilled. We call you Uncle Chris, because, you're just a real, loveable kind of person. We appreciate that you are positive, friendly, out going, sensible, good natured, caring, genuine, a great story teller and an all around wonderful human being! You have our support! There are other story tellers out there on KZread, but I've made it a rule that if the story teller himself is just as creepy as the stories he tells than he's not the guy for us. We know we can trust "Uncle Chris" with our ears and the precious time we have to be together! Love, HT Hibbard (the girl born and raised in Virginia City, NV)

"...what kind of shelters they have" is thought provoking. Never having been captured or killed -- as far as we know -- you'd think we might see at least some kind of rudimentary shelter put together by creatures with obvious rock throwing, opposable thumbed skills.

I recently heard a story about a hunter that was scanning an area he was hunting and saw a large boulder move then 3 Sasquatch come out from behind the boulder and the Sasquatch moved the bolder back covering the cave they came out of. On a side note, last year my husband and i were hiking an area near where we live here in Norcal an hour from Yosemite. My husband was joking around recording a video on his phone and said, "we are just out here looking for bigfoot". Right after he said that he heard a low sounding roar. I didnt hear it at the time but could definitely hear it on his recording later on when we got home. Also we hear a loud tree knock at night when we were camping last summer near our home. Very active area.

Regarding their shelters, according to some accounts, they exist in another dimension and can appear and disappear in our world. This would explain why some witnesses claim to have seen them suddenly vanish into thin air.

This brought back a very vivid memory of a similar situation. About 15 years ago I was camping with my dad, my little brother, and my grand parents who were a couple hundred yards away in a trailer. We were camped out along the rogue river in southern oregon. Where we had pitched the tents on the river was a rapid. It was very loud. We had to talk loud to hear each other. My brother and I shared a tent. He was maybe 8 or 9 and I was around 15. It was a normal day and we fell asleep to the sound of the river. I suddenly woke up terrified from a knock on the other side of the river. I lay still and silent until I hear 2 whoops on the other side of the river. My little brother woke up to both of these but I had to tell him it was just other campers (there weren’t any we were aware of however). As we start to fall back asleep we hear another whoop across the river. To our surprise someTHING made a whoop on our side as a response to the one we heard right before that. This terrified both of us but we were too scared to wake my dad or get out and go to his tent. From that point we stayed up all night listening to odd sounds I could only describe as low pitch whistling. Almost like a flute but you could tell it was animal made. (Or Bigfoot). When the sun rose we played it off as if nothing happened we didn’t want to be made fun of for being scared. The most interesting part to me was the fact we could hear the whistle over the roar of the rapids, but couldn’t hear each other talk while right next to each other. Come nightfall that day my dad asked us if we heard anything last night. We told him everything, and it turns out he heard everything we did as well. He wasn’t as scared as we were but remained silent to simply observe. I could go more in depth, I’ll ask my brother and dad to recall their story to see if I’m missing anything.

I live in Rogue River Oregon on the side of a mountain & in the middle of the night, I thought my dogs were whining to go out so in one motion I slid the deck door open, turned on the light & stepped out. Directly across from me were 3 of them silhouetted under my cedar tree! It was a "Holy Crap!" moment, and as I backed up, they backed up. I stepped back into the house, turned off the light & turned to see my dogs giving me the look, "Are you CRAZY? We were trying to warn you!" .

I'm 70 yrs old, have been an outdoorsman in Washington state all my life, salmon fishing on the ocean, Elk hunting in Glacier peak area, pheasant, grouse, deer, hunting. Exploring and fishing all the inland waters of Puget sound, etc. etc. Cougars can be heard for miles and sound very close, they'll scream like women, beavers smack water like giant Boulder sound, Wilson Snipe near marshes sound like a jungle monkey with a loud seven or eight wild, crazy, crescendo building, deep, WHOOP, WHOOP, WHOOP... I've seen bears plow throw 40 ft tall fir stands whipping them like blowing grass snapping and breaking. Elk and bears grunt and snort and elk bugles can screech . Coyotes usually very recognizable but there's some screams they make as well. Cougars in heat will signal scream once or twice before mated. And screech owls will scream like demon sirens, absolutely hideous sound and great horned owls actually scream as well. Even cotton tail and jack rabbits scream when prey gets them. Some of it really gets your attention but I've loved every minute of it. But, the throwing of rocks sounds like ferel folks in the Arkansas woods. They are lucky there was no "Deliverence" type interaction, or someone could have been hurt, or worse Wildlife is varied and magnificent. After a lifetime I'm sure I haven't heard it all yet.

I live in a camper tent in the woods. Over the years I have heard barred owls, early in the year after their babies start hopping from branches and start to fly we get to hear the parents and babies hooting. Over a 7 year period they had about 4-5 liters of babies. Usuly 2 but the last year they were alive they had 3. They made all kinds of weird noticed. They scream, squeak, and other noises. The babies make the most irregular sounds. Sometimes other families came threw with a different variety of sounds. S few will have a metallic sound. Some sound like squeaky doors swinging. Wow. That made me remember back in the 50s my parents kept hearing a door swinging at night. That's what it was.

Hey Man! Those copper cups are cool. I own a few but depending on how it was manufactured and a few other chemical reaction possibilities, they can become toxic. The jury is still out on whether or not they're completely safe. Recently, I found an antique silver cup and I have to say, everything that I drink out of that cup tastes better, stays cold longer, stays warm longer and even through it weighs twice as much as my copper cups. I absolutely love it. If I give someone a drink from the silver cup. They all have the same reaction. " Whoa! What a cool cup. It feels like there's a charge of energy when you hold it. It looks and feels so solid and cool. I want it. " I say, "Thank you. I know it's really cool, but I can't let you have it because it's my lucky cup." It even looks like a small trophy or sippy cup with grips on both sides. If I find another one like it, I'll try to get it to you. Anyway, I love your content. Have fun. Stay safe.

You never hear of anyone encountering these creatures these days (with very few exceptions). Among other things, I am a field researcher in the national organization UFO-Sweden, and I know that it happens that there are still some reports of encounters with classic gnomes. But as I said - they are extremely rare. I have several American friends that I talk to quite regularly, including Justin from the Cryptids of the Corn podcast in Ohio. Justin and his brother encountered a Bigfoot on their farm when they were in their teens. Another saw the silhouette of a Dogman in the twilight. It feels a bit like the American continent attracts a lot of cryptids, for some reason.

There was a fall and spring migration that came through close by, moving at night only, every year I lived there. I knew the calls of all the local wildlife. There was bear, turkey, all sorts of owls and hawks and eagles and waterbirds, beaver and deer and every other creature you think of when you think of wildlife. I learned them all, even the odd little noises and shrieks that scare city folk so much. These were something else. The hoots were most distinctive. We never bothered them, they never bothered us. But we stayed inside while they were moving through. Common courtesy, you understand. There's not much place left for them, and I can understand them wanting your friends to get out of their territory.

Great story. As much as I enjoy adventure and camping and being out in beautiful nature, I couldn't be out in the middle of nowhere and expect it to be peaceful. They need to make a movie about this story. I can only imagine how many people decided to live out their lives in the middle of ANY forest. Whether it was the infamous Big Foot, Sasquatch, Skunk Ape, Yeti depending on what region they are in, or just plain folks living off the land and defending it. Be safe out there campers.

Our niece lives with a canyon in her backyard. There is a trail that goes down into it. She an a friend and her dogs were used to going down so far for exercise. She said one evening they went a little further then usual and saw a big hairy tall thing looking at them from further down. Suddenly it started coming up the trail at a fast pace and they started running back out. She said the dogs even took off. She said it chased them to almost the head of the trail. They have not gone back in for several years. The elders they told about the incident say they have been seen before by others.

Buffalo National River is rough isolated country. It is where I cut my teeth backpacking. Going to do the BRT next weekend. The Upper Buffalo is heavily traveled and frequented because of Big Bluff trail, Hemmed in Hollow (highest waterfall between Appalachia and the Rockies), and the ease of access is closer to the populated areas. The Lower Buffalo not so much. You really have to WANT to go to the Lower if you’re not from the immediate area. And pro tip for anyone considering hiking and kayaking the Buffalo. The rivers can rise incredibly quickly even without rain in the area. Be diligent on the weather. Most rivers in NW and North Central Arkansas run North into MO and then turn east and eventually back south. If it rains to the south it can rise quickly. It’s kind of like dealing with washes out west. Also, even though our “mountains” are laughable by most people’s standards it is rough country. And the area has been featured as a hotspot in the 411 book series. There are an incredible amount of caves and sinkholes. There are also old abandoned mine shafts littering the area. Oh yeah they caught Timber Rattlers climbing trees on camera here in Arkansas. So there is that also lol

Even locals cannot throw large rocks from a bluff out into the middle of rivers. Also don't think even locals would be 12 to 15 miles back in the wilderness harassing campers all night long. My son saw 2 of them last year near a wilderness area in far northern Calif. They do exist.

Funny though my Mom had a lot of weird happenings in her rural hometown in Zacatecas. One we heard as kids was about the wailing mother....who lost her kids and was always looking for them near rivers. This is called " La Llorona". Then there were the little people who stole your stuff....only to be found elsewhere. These were called 'duendes'. Thanks for your stories.🎈😻

Hello from Oklahoma! Good Story. I've floated the Buffalo a few times. The group we went with the first time, told us to bring extra fruit to leave in the woods. We did. We brought apples and oranges. The fruit we left in the woods would be gone in the morning. The only other thing that came up missing was some fish on a stringer. But, that could've been deer, bears, or raccoons hard to say. So...

I’ve floated much of the Buffalo with friends numerous times over the past 20 years but we never had such an experience. Having said that, it doesn’t surprise me that someone could have such an experience as it truly is surrounded by vast and dense forest. It’s a great river to float though as each twist and turn offers a totally unique and amazing view and the fishing can be awesome. A weather radio is a must as the river can rise very quickly and be impassable during a rain storm. In the past, people have been swept off of gravel bars during the night while camping.

That trip is complete wilderness, no roads in or out. The only thing we ever worried about was not to float under trees because of snakes. Never had problems, the black bear will never bother you unless your a threat to cubs, then a momma bear is dangerous, just give them space. Now my grown children float.
