Beyond The Treeline

Beyond The Treeline

Hey there! My name is Nathan, and Beyond The Treeline is where I hope to share my love for wilderness through my canoeing and backpacking adventures. I enjoy engaging with others over the admiration of wild places; and, in sharing my experiences, I hope is to inspire a love for wilderness.

I love filming in nature because it helps me to slow down and appreciate everything around me in a simple and pure way. I intend to keep my videos authentic to that and independent from brands, sponsorships, and advertisement. If you feel like supporting me in that endeavor, feel free to visit my Buy Me A Coffee page. But more than anything I hope you'll connect with me over this passion for wilderness!

    I did that trip 40 years ago. Highly recommend but use a guide service because you could die up there from a dozen difficult causes. And don’t go during black fly season because if you do, you will probably want to kill yourself and not wait to drown or something else.

    “🍄”As I stepped beyond the threshold, I entered another world-like Dorothy walking into Oz. A slight breeze swirled the leaves and branches and blossoms of the garden, brushing the skin on my arms. Soft air and clear light caressed my face. Just then, the music stopped. It took me a moment to realize that the music in my head was actually in my iPod and the iPod must have run out of power. I took out the ear buds and a far more fantastic music flooded in, leaves rustling, birds chirping, insects buzzing, the distant shoosh of tires on the road invisible behind the trees. I sat at the wrought-iron table and put my feet up. The crystalline light astonished me. The air, neither hot nor cold, was invigoratingly dry. I felt energy radiating from my body into the air, mingling with the radiations emanating from all the life surrounding me. I scanned the back yard. The ornamental grasses had begun to shoot out golden tufts; the crepe myrtle, hydrangea, stone crop, petunias and geraniums all had covered themselves in blossoms. Figs grew large and heavy on the fig tree, which exploded tropically in one corner of the yard, and fat red tomatoes swelled on the still leafing vines in another. Tendrils of Virginia creeper and wild grape dripped from the pines across the back fence, persimmons hung from the persimmon tree like Christmas ornaments. I had seen all this the previous morning, and many other mornings before that. But now I had stepped into a page from an illuminated fairy tale. Just as that thought entered my mind, three large yellow butterflies appeared, flitting in spirals around me. I laughed aloud: I was in Oz after all🌄… …I can’t think of any other way to put this but to say the sky opened, and grace poured down all around me. Light itself had transformed into a palpable substance, spilling down as if from a fountain. But it was more than light. It was blessings of every kind, goodness incarnate, flowing inexhaustible and immutable from above. I didn’t say to myself, “What is this?” I didn’t guess. I knew, I saw, I was in the presence of God. This wasn’t a God with whom I could have a conversation, at least not two-way. I think I said, or shouted, “Ok, I am DEFINITELY not an atheist,” but God was mute, or rather, I understood, or perceived, that the only response God would ever make was the boundless bounty of beauty cascading over me. After the shock and awe, my first thought was that this gift absurdly overmatched anything I could possibly have deserved. I thought, and said aloud, “Why me?” Instantly, that seemed too pleased with myself. I could just look at this phenomenon that confronted me, this Niagara Falls of beauty pouring down, and know that I hadn’t been “chosen.” I was no one special. This was just what God was, a permanent condition that somehow had remained invisible to me until this moment..” reset.me/story/tried-psychedelic-mushrooms-35-years-saw-light/🌈 🍂🌄🍄🌄🍂

    The quality of our dreams is both a reflection of our thoughts and actions as well as a general foreshadowing of the fate of our souls in the next life...A nightly, temporary karma that beckons us to change - for the good - so as to avoid a more permanent karma❤️‍🔥 Beauty(🌷)+Complexity(🌎) =Intent(❤️) The Figure 8 Analogy: An analogy on life, death, the dream-state and the symbolism intertwined within the human experience. We human beings are not traveling in the abstract motion of a straight line towards death (for instance, the numerical straight line of say 1-89). Instead, we are moving in the motion of a figure 8. The Figure 8 is a natural repeating pattern that is divided into two halves and is thus the perfect symbol to represent the human life cycle and our two primary states of existence that we are continuously moving in and out of -the Awake state and the Dream state. When we awake from sleep we come full circle to when we fall back asleep (represented by the bottom half of the figure 8 )and when we go into the dream state we come full circle to when we awake from the dream state (represented by the top half of the figure 8 ). Upon death; the figure 8 of life untwines, but it’s not the body untwining from the mind that this analogy represents. It's two states of mind untwining to form a larger state of mind (8-0)… Because the awake state is really a state -of mind, with our body's physical reality "consciously" intertwined; and the dream-state is also a state of mind with our body's physical reality "subconsciously" intertwined. Therefore; upon death, these two states of mind untwine to form a “larger” state of mind. A state that has all the potentialities of the dream-world (flying, telepathy, psychokinesis, etc) combined with all the actualities of the awake world(nature, form, bonds, etc). This I refer to as the transitional analogy. While conceiving The Figure 8 Analogy, I realized life and death must be perceived -from one point of view- as seperate entities(the transitional analogy(8-0), but must also be perceived -from another point of view- as inseparable entities(the symbolic analogy👇), both of which are ultimately linked by the dream-state. The “Symbolic Analogy” consists of the untwined figure 8 of life/the “circle of death” ( O ) abstractly overlapping the ‘circle of life’ (Earth(🌎)with the overlapping area representing the dreamstate-like the common area in a Venn Diagram-and implies that the dream state is just as much a part of life as is of death (by which explains precognitive dreams, prodromal dreams, "visitations" by deceased relatives, etc) for the dream-state has a foothold in the afterlife; and is based on the premise that “while our body sleeps our dream state symbolically represents the state that awaits upon our body's ultimate rest.” In other words, while we are lying down and sleeping/dreaming, this natural process symbolizes where we go when we're ultimately lying down/dead -to a place like our dream-state...A state "of mind” with our body's physical form+Earthly bonds eternally engrained and intertwined. 💫👁️~8~👁️💫

    LOL you boys were lucky, I remember about a decade ago when You'd 'ave been battling mini icebergs... I swam in The Alantic Ocean, And I have swam in superior... O swear the ocean is warmer.... Why did you stop by wawa, ya should have kept comming down to the Soo ( Sault Ste. Marie ) Cuz that stretch is where you get all the awesome sandy beaches .... Stop off at Pancake bay for, well duhh... then travel about 20 km south to Chipawewa falls, which is apparently the mid point of trave;;ing across Canada by land ( The Trans Canada Highway)... Bring your fishing rods next time. The nest cooked stek is Camping steak, I miss camping cooking, but yeak notyhing tastes better than a slab of meat cooked on coals no propane or other gasses, add some birch smoke, or pine smoke, Oak or Maple... or heck just throw a log of each in the pit stir them coals around... finger lickin good, just watch out for those dirty trash Panadas... too many people ( Tourist) feed the wildlife, which is dangerous cuz now the willife expects it and can/will come real close Nice shot of the moose... looked like a little fellow... hard to tell on vid... still looks bigger in real life though ... EH Yeah the onkly thing thats sucks about the area is in the spring you battle the blackflies, up your nose in your eyes, or summer time when you battle Deer flies, or worse yet those Horseflies... why do they call 'em horse flies, Cuz I Betcha a horse could step on them and theu'd still fly away, and its not a simple poke like a mosquito ... ih know you'll know and be eemindded for days... I Remeber may yeah that must have been a 'fun' trip... its been a little cooler/wet this year I was surprised waves werent that big... tobad you did't get any to see any lightn\ing show or the Auroras ...( Northern Lights) Next year fer sure , eh... :) Take are...eh... @@VonLigenstein I love this comment! LOL, your matter-of-factness is getting me! It’s all so true! Yea it crazy how much warmer it is around Superior now than it was. This year was impacted a lot by El Niño, but still, it seems like less and less of the lake is freezing over each year. Still cold though! On our way back we drove that whole coast from Wawa to the Soo and it looked incredible! No joke we were talking about how we need to come back and paddle that stretch next. We stopped and did a couple hikes in Superior Provincial Park on the way down and it was stunning. Definitely want to go explore more up there. Oh boy, you got me wishing I was cooking on an open fire right now! I want to get more creative with my camp cooking. That’s something I’ve been playing with little bits over time. I should pick up a camp cook book sometime! I’ll have to bring the fishing pole next time for sure. And I’d love to get more familiar with the plant life to incorporate into the food too. @@Beyond_The_Treeline One of the things I read this morning said the way it is set up now makes it difficult to manage for logging and mining. Isn't that the whole point of the BWCA to keep humans from interfering? We came to a land of bounty precisely because no man was trying to manage it. The natural forces had thier way and a thing of beauty was created BECAUSE no man was interfering. No man stopping fires, no man bringing in invasive plant species, nature in the raw doing what it does. To my knowledge the Bowery waters was created to preserve wilderness. Not create a savings account of unclogged trees and unlinked ground. Punching holes through out it degrades the whole. What other purpose is there for creating a bunch of holes in a fence?

  • @Beyond_The_Treeline
    @Beyond_The_Treeline3 күн бұрын

    @@PeterDresch I totally think it’s doable with a little prep! Especially if you are an experienced backcountry hiker/backpacker. I wouldn’t recommend it as your first canoeing trip just because those lakes are big and canoeing is a bit of a learning curve, more so than kayaking. You’ll want to get familiar with how the boat handles and get comfortable with a few paddle strokes. Otherwise it’ll be exhausting and could be dangerous on those bigger lakes. But if you get comfortable with a canoe you’ll be fine. The portages are relatively short on this trip and there are only 5 of them if I remember correctly. The longest one that walks past the ghost trains can even be skipped if you paddle a little further south on Chamberlain Lake and hop over the little dam leading into Eagle Lake. So definitely a very doable trip! And September/October is incredible! It really just got cold on us the last couple of nights. @@Beyond_The_Treeline As long as you have enough water, do the St. John River. There are long stretches where you'd have to drag the canoe over rocks. We went at the end of June and the water level was high. No dragging the canoe at all. The rapids, Big Black Rapids and the Big Rapids at the end are WILD! The St. John is the better river because there no lakes, all river! Allagash , we did in around 10 days and the St. John, 8 days. Includes a lot of fishing too. Good luck!

    @@thelakeman5207 that sounds amazing! Yea the all river and bigger rapids is very attractive to me. That makes sense about water levels too, even out last stretch on the St John was lower in the fall. I would imagine spring/early summer would be a good time. Thanks for the info!

    Loved the video. Your comments at the beginning and ending are both insightful and moving. Also, just the right amount of narration and dialog. The variety of filming techniques kept me interested in this longer piece. It would be hard to wait 4 weeks to see all of the trip if you only offered one part per week. I look forward to your next work of art!

    @@michaelpagelaramee7757 thank you! I’m glad that’s how you felt about it. I love the feedback! I think I really like the full video style. Episodes are fun to make because I can look at the trip in bite size chunks, but this was better I think as a full video and I like that. Probably will stick with that. I’ve been trying to get better at variety of filming too, so I’m glad that came across! Thank you! I have more trips in the works this year so I hope to get better with each one I try to tell a story for. Thanks for the comment!
