The Brutal Downfall of Redmercy

Ойындар

Redmercy was once at the top of the League of Legends youtube game, becoming one of the most subscribed-to and viewed channels in the community. Known for going from innovative series such as Did You Know and League of Myths to generic, clickbait content before eventually quitting KZread altogether THIS is the story of Redmercy’s rapid rise and slow, painful fall from grace.

Haha good video - I spent about a third of my life making league content and it was truly a ride I wouldn’t change for anything. But as all things, every thing must come to an end sadly and the tldr was what you said, I simply got burnt out. Playing and making videos of a game for 12 years would do that to you :( but truly a ride that changed my life

What an honor Mr Red 🙏 I watched you from middle school all the way to college, you were a huge part of my life as well as all the other fans that commented how nostalgic hearing about you again was. Truly loved your content especially the lore and fun fact videos. I was rooting so hard for you to reach challenger and I can confidently say I watched 90% of your Journey to Master and Grandmaster series from s6-8. While it’s bittersweet you moved on to bigger and better things thank you for the years of entertainment you gave 1M+ people. You’re a legend Redmercy. Thank you for making League that much more enjoyable :)

People don't understand that when he gained success, it was in the early days of league, most what he was doing was a novelty, especially the did you know series, because people weren't knowledgeable about league, as they are now. Then the game scene changed, and he tried to adapt, but there was nothing but clickbaity stuff that everyone else is doing. So fans left him, not realizing that they learned so much from him, to the point that they didn't need him anymore

The problem is click baity stuff works. Everyone say they hate it but if you don't do it you get less views for the exact same video. I really don't blame creators for it. Redmercy is considered by many to be one of the the Founding Fathers of League of Legends Online Content Creation. He’s historically and classically one of the greatest content creators period. Almost all other big names today stand in his shadow and on the foundations of what he pioneered first; he’s the personification of a great era itself. His technique was professional, he had class, he had charisma, he was able to act as this effective conduit between what Riot was hoping for and what the player base aspired to. Throughout his career, no matter the views, he conducted himself with honor…

For me Red and Siv HD were a OG duo that helped many people in league. Red was teaching people stuff about game and how to get better at game while Siv was showing people how to have fun playing league and showing us fun builds and off meta picks which was a perfect balance for both people that played the game to climb or for fun only. Enjoyed them both back in the day and still feel sad and nostalgic missing their olfld content

Personally I think he's drop is due to him not being a challenger level player. Nowadays the only League content that thrives are high elo gameplay (Bauss, Druttut, Tyler1), documentaries (Exil), gameplay analysis (midbeast, LS), and league news (Rival). The content he settled on making was high elo gameplay but it wasn't high enough for people to bother watching.

He also had the exclusive streaming deal with Facebook. One can only speculate how much his contract was worth but considering it’s when twitch “competitors” were shelling out loads of money for exclusivity deals, I can imagine it would’ve been a pretty penny. Most of his KZread videos by the end of it were glorified stream highlights. Especially when it was 99% journey to masters since they were all taken from his Facebook streams.

Only if you are very unique and personality based channel, will you keep going strong-ish, anything else, you sink with the ship. You simply have to be a unique personality, let people in your personal life so they connect with you and be extremely versatile(variety content).

It makes sense that when a game is at its peak it’s easier to stay relevant. I would say especially in NA league’s peak at least for viewership and reputation was 2014-18. After that it slowly started shifting more to a PvP game and the KZread scene wasn’t innovating as much. Now League is growing almost everywhere in the world except for NA, even CBLOL pulled more viewers for their playoffs than the LCS did this split

Apart from drama the biggest trend I'm seeing is these successful streamers/youtubers getting burnt out or taking breaks which end up killing their channel. It's kinda sad when you think about it, I've had years where I don't play league and then I come back to it ... years where I may only play a couple months and have a league fix and then get my desired rank and take breaks. In the content space there's not really the option to take breaks, you just become irrelevant .. people forget about you. I think it's important to always diversify your content because any game is gonna get stale and boring after years and years of playing it. I also think it shows that when you're successful in this space you don't know when you're gonna lose it. You have to always be ahead of the curve and in tune with almost like the content meta. So really you should save as much as you can because it's truly a dream job.

Basically he appealed to an audience that had no content which quickly became saturated as more players joined and redmercy couldn’t find a niche of his own with the generalized content he had it didn’t fill any niche other KZreadrs didn’t do even at his times. Without exceptional skills in other roles he was mostly an otp who clickbaited before people realized how annoying it is.

Siv HD was the best League content creator and to this day he still is and Red was in my top 3 favs. He was one of a kind and i enjoyed watching him every day. Even tho people complained about his clickbait titles and thumbnails but thats just how marketing works like in any other business.. you need to beat ur competition and give people the reason to click on ur video, cus there was a lot of creators nowdays and it wasnt easy to stay consistent and get people to watch exactly your video. So from a business perspective thats totally fine, why would i hate him for doing it cus he was doing that for living and on top of that every single content creator does the same thing but no one hates them.. im super sad to see him gone but hopefully he will come back in the future if league produces enough of new content that can increase his interest in the game again

Take your own advice. Im sure youre being petty over SunnyV2s latest video, but you show yourself to be ignorant. Anyone with half a braincell can see that SunnyV2 is typically unbiased in the format of his videos. He shed light on a situation thats perceived in a negative light but because youre caught up in your own feelings you cant see that. The fact that you brought him up in this video only reinforces how butthurt you are. Grow up and stop taking life too seriously.

The state of League as a game and the content made from League kinda intertwines. As league becomes more interested as an eSport and less welcoming to casual play, the creators just end up gravitating to more clickbaity titles and focus on climbing the ranks. RedMercy when I started playing League was the person I gravitated towards quite a lot. I learned to play assassins because of him. I learned how to play Zed properly and the hybrid damage Ekko build was my favorite thing to screw with when he came out. League just sucks in general now. Red did nothing wrong he just followed where League took him. League now is a game that is a shell of its former self as do most of the creators that still make content from League.

A lot of the league youtuber I watched... they all seemed to have quit or stop making content. Pants and Trick is the only one I watch now. Sometimes I watch T1 and the baus but he just ints 😆 and macro is insane. I honestly feel like league content creator has fallen off as time goes by but at the same time KZread notification for new video upload is trash. Sometimes you get it sometimes you do and sometimes you magically become unsubscribed.

I think its viewership droppimg in general because the game gets harder and harder to satisfy the pro scene while making it unappealing for casual players who dont care about competetive and esport. After season 3 the game was pushed so hard for competetive, point and click abilities slowly removed, laning phase sped up, sustain reduced that the game became only interesting for people who constantly try to improve and keep up with current meta. We really need season 2 or 3 league back

That just the nature of playing one game, and in a platform such as youtube. League has way less players than before way ahead of its prime, and ever since the boom in Twitch people are more interested watching live in twitch than replays in youtube. Take tyler1 as an example, the most famous LoL content creator youtube videos are just shy of a hundred thousand views per video but in terms of live viewership he still doing well.

What happened to madlife/mar1n/insec next. They are the people who inspired countless generations of lol players. Madlife was absolutely legendary, i still remember when his team MiG was called "madlife is god" by fans. Mar1n season 5 worlds mvp!!!!!! 28-0 maokai during regular season. The guy carried faker! Last i checked he was a coach in a "survival show" where aspiring lol players go for a chance to debut in lck. It was really nostalgic to watch the 2022 lck spring finals ceremony with all the old players.
