The BRAND NEW Samsung SmartThings App - Full Walkthrough with Routines and Setup!
That's right, today you're getting a brand new Samsung SmartThings app on your Android and iOS smartphone. You'll be able to control your SmartThings smart home much better, but there are also new sections dedicated to smarter living lifestyles!
The new Samsung SmartThings app will be available on iOS very soon, but the Android app is live as of the publishing time of this video. Make sure you download the new version of the app and get using it right away, because it includes all kinds of upgrades, updates, and new features for your Samsung #SmartThings home automation setup.
This is an even bigger update than when we went from the #SamsungSmartThings Classic app to the newer app, and I think it improves on a number of things that users have been asking for.

Great video Brian, thanks. Had a quick related question, I have a Google Hub Max with the built in Nest camera that I linked to SmartThings as soon as the integration was announced a few weeks ago. Initially, I could see the motion alerts in SmartThings so I was using them for some automations, but all of the sudden they stopped showing and now the vertical scroll just says no history. I've removed and readded the camera multiple times from SmartThings, making sure every time to give it full access to events, and they still don't show up. Again, they used show up there when I first added the camera. Are you nest cameras showing the motion alerts within SmartThings?

So apparently ST finally disabled using many of the Smart Apps yesterday- which I converted many of my automations to native Routines 😅. However, I did realize the Notifications options on SmartThings is VERY limiting. For example, being notified that door is open, but only once every X time or so. That way I don’t get 20 notifications when we’re coming in/out of house to bring in groceries or something. Been using the Custom Monitoring smart app for years for that. Does anyone know if and when the new RULES API on ST will allow for better Notification options??

Ok, so I'm going to recommend a couple of videos that will help. I don't have a "full guide for SmartThings Automations" but the creation of automations is all over the channel (you might have triggered me to make that video BTW...) Anyways, this Security system guide is probably some of the best things to watch because it'll guide you through lots of different things you can setup, including security: kzread.info/dash/bejne/X6SCpNWigqSpfNo.html. There's also timecodes in that one so it'll really help you to skip around to the topics you want. This video about Modes is really helpful too because I share some of my automations with you: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pqhrqJiGd8Kxn7A.html And here's how you can get audio alerts out of a speaker. kzread.info/dash/bejne/faiDt8uGcbq-gco.html This is just a good example of some automations driving other things. I hope this helps! Sorry I don't have a full guide!

I have set up an automation with the IF statement being linked to a Google Nest Thermostat with the room temperature being at or above a certain temperature... triggering a then statement that activates (or is supposed to activate) a smart plug to which a window AC is plugged in. Next, I have another automation set up to turn the same AC off once the room temperature gets below a certain temp. Problem is - the automation are not working. Nothing happens.... Do I need a Hub or something like that? The Google Nest Thermostat clearly reads that the room temperature is such that the automation to turn the AC on should be activated, but nothing happens...... :-) Any advice would be appreciated...

This sounds like we need to troubleshoot. You shouldn't need a hub for the Nest Thermostat, but it depends what you're trying to do. You're saying a smart plug, but it sounds like you don't have a SmartThings hub or that plug connected to the ST hub? That means everything is running "in the cloud" and therefore there are a number of reasons it might not be running. The internet, the cloud services....the network inside your home might not be letting the signals in/out. There's a lot. So I think start with something simpler. Like...test if you can do other automations and start to break down the problem.

In general, I'd recommend the SmartThings hub to get the most out of this system. It connects to a lot more devices, and it also allows local automations (no need for internet) in many cases.

Taran, Samsung stopped making hardware but that doesn't actually mean there's anything wrong with SmartThings. Hubitat is a good hub but I find the lack of camera integration a pretty massive gap for Hubitat. Their app is also basically non-existent, so it's more of a DIY system than SmartThings. Samsung passed their device designs to a company called Aeotec and otherwise have continued building out SmartThings

I have just installed the in-wall z-wave Smart Motion Dimmer Jasco (ZW3008) and although it can do the basic things when I set it up in Smartthings it will no do what I intended it to do for the reason I purchased the switch. I am using the switch when going in and out of the bathroom at night. During the day and the evening I want the light switch to be set at 100% at midnight I would like to set it at 5% and at sunrise I would like to set the dimmer back to 100%. You all know the reason way, when you walk into the bathroom and the lights are at 100% it wakes you out of your sleep but when the lights are set a 5% it is much easy to fall back to sleep. I have tried setting it up in the normal Automations in Smartthings and I've also tried setting it up in Smart Lighting

  • @AutomateYourLife

    3 жыл бұрын

Totally getcha. I'd have to have the device in my home to be able to test it but if it's returning the lights to 100% whenever you flip the switch, then you'll want to stop using it. That would just be something that would never be fixed...however I don't think that's the problem. You may want a custom device handler too for it. Check here: community.smartthings.com/t/release-ge-jasco-46203-zw3010-dimmer-switch/206226 If it's simply the fact that the setting isn't right when you go to use it, here's what I'd do at Sunset in one automation: Set Switch On and to 5% Set Switch Off
