The most exciting moment of these three episodes was when I thought the Deep was gonna blow A-Train and it didn't even happen 😢
Unpopular opinion: TB season 1 was great not because of the shocks, but because of engaging story telling. Everything went sideways when it became all about the shock and gore - that is, starting season 2 onwards.

Yup. Not to mention every season always ends on this huge note. Then just resets and blue balls you start of the next season. First season was best and had the best tone. This show now almost feels like what this show was parodying

First was absolutely the best. 2nd definitely struggled, but outside of the finale and some weird story changes at the end, season 3 was great. I would say plenty of complaints are valid for season 3 but it being more shock than substance just doesn't hold up. I almost completely hated these first three episodes of season 4.
I felt that Season 3 did plenty of 'biting the hand that feeds them'. Taking the piss out of the celebrities who did that Imagine cover, satirizing that cringe inducing Sprite ad with A-Train, poking fun at corporate virtue signaling etc. I see a lot of complaints about the show not being enough like the comics. I think the comics were... fucking garbage. lol Some of the worst stuff Ennis has written. Most of the changes they've made have been for the better, honestly.
Thank u for ur honesty its so difficult to get real reviews
I’m finding quite a bit of this season on the nose tbh, and some off it just feels off to me. Probably should go back and watch s1 to see just what is irking me.
Totally agree James! I'll still watch since we're close to the overall end. One thing that I think is missing, for me anyway, is a character like Soldier Boy to hook people in. To me he was by far the best part of season 3 and one of the most memorable characters in recent TV history, Jensen Ackles absolutely killed it! I'm hoping Jeffrey Dean Morgan could possibly become that for this season.

Soldier Boy was fantastic. I do like the idea of Sage - analogous to a Superman and Lex Luthor team up.
Shocking sex/violence scenes wear thin over time. Chasing after it wont work there needs to be more substance to the writing
@6:53: “Something just off the top of my head…” 😂 Mm-hmm. Right. We love you, man!
But the audience doesnt want the original comic, that comic isnt a big seller for a good reason, shocking for just shocking sake doesnt sell comics and doesnt sell tv shows, it is storytelling quality that sells. Too bad the boys is declining on storytelling too
Season 3 already had "CW" flavour. But they had ace in a sleeve - incredible Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy. 😎 They improved on his storyline and character from the original graphic novel. He is just killing it, one of the biggest highlights of a show (all seasons) in my opinion. 🥰 Thank you , chief for a great review 🦉 You Never disappoint. Going to watch top erotic thrillers in a hit. 🧑🚀🕺
Yeah I agree with the same points that are hard to shake: 1. attempts at shock value don’t land like previous seasons; 2. subplots for Huey, Annie, even Frenchie are not terribly entertaining or at worst a distraction; 3. political satire is way too on the nose to be insightful.
“Corporate approved content” nooooooo! That’s what The Boys was set against!
I think I agree with everything you said, especially about the many writers being at odds with each other, that's what happens when we lose the unique vision of a single author. I still enjoy the series but it doesn't and it never had great storytelling...but it'd be fine as long as they had the courage to do whatever savagery and debauchery they want but unfortunately even that seems to be disappearing. I'd add that I don't care about the boys at all other than Butcher. For me all of them should've died a long time ago and just focus more on the superhumans.
They really missed an opportunity to cast some HUGE black guy as Frenchy’s boyfriend ( SHAQ or Terry Cruise) 😂Kimiko thinks Frenchy doesn’t want to “ F” because he still loves her, but he’s really afraid. The scene where they bone is really graphic and Frenchy gets wrecked. He then keeps walking funny and Kimiko offers to help him stretch his asshole out so he doesn’t lose this new man. It literally leads to him in the hospital and Butcher forbidding him to Date this dude and he literally tells the guy he killed his parents so the guy will stop popping his rubber band. 😂
The gross outs and violence in this meandering season are getting old, but the real problem, is that no matter how much political satire they bring, it can’t out do the bizarre reality of what’s really happening now.
The creators efforts were divided between this and gen v. season 5 will rebound
totally agree
The showrunner said he was going to be a lot more obvious with politics. This is because the show had become quite popular with right wingers who saw Homelander as the hero of the story. So Kripke went more 'on the nose' on purpose. I'm not saying I agree with Kripke that that was a good idea, I'm just saying it was no accident. My opinion: I know Homelander is the villain, but he's still easily my favourite character
I felt that the boys was gonna get old eventually I'd be quite happy to see it end story wise I couldn't see it go on forever
Totally agree💚🇬🇧🌱I hate the whole Starlighters Vs hometeam crowd scenes & what have they done with Noir?

Homelander killed the real Noir, this is a stand in actor. Did you watch Season 3?
Talking of biting the hand that feeds, the latest season of Black Mirror did that very well. Also, Preacher was great it was worth it for the what's up did Jesus take the wheel joke in the first season lol
I had similar feels
Homelander has been great. There is a lot of set up and some of the subplots are just meh but im still interested and watched all three back to back.
cheers
They also announced The Boys: Mexico so it seems like Amazon is going all in
After watching the first three epsiode i felt this season started "slow" which I don't have a problem with but my main complain is I feel there is a lot of subplots going and I don't feel there is a main plot to follow anymore ... in general there is a lot happening while the pace is not as fast as the other seasons but in the end it is still an entertaining show and better than a lot of superhero movies and shows out there as you mentioned
The comic book series is definitely more shocking than the tv series. I am not sure a modern tv audience would approve of a true-to-form adaptation. I dropped off from watching The Boys pretty early on, but I am glad that my husband is still enjoying it. He is excited by the Sister Sage/Homelander team up. For him, the least interesting things about The Boys is all of the bathroom and sex humor and the Ryan/'Butcher storyline. and the most interesting things about it are the political commentary and the character moments. He always gets a chuckle from people who complain that The Boys (the tv show) is woke. It has been for a long time. Some folks just were just too slow in picking up on that. Anywho, thank you for your review, James.
I hope down the road someone would have enough knowledge and passion to adapt Planetary, I would prefer it animated.
I just started watching the mayor of Kingstown & I'm more excited to see what happens next in that series than this one unfortunately💚🇬🇧🌱
I agree with the review looks like the series its starting run out of steam there no main protagonist like last season with Solider Boy now we have all this side steps for characters seem out of there norm . I stick with it as the series always starts of slow then built s up to a grandstanding ending,
Yeah, I think Starlight and Hughey are very bland. They are like a yuppy married couple.

Yeah it was only interesting during the Temp V subplot which was part of the season long narrative with Butcher, Homelander, and Soldier Boy.
I look forward to the political satire. Season 1 was fantastic for that down to copying speeches.
The Amazon version of The Boys is an Impossible Burger to the source material, which is an unhealthy but delicious double patty burger from 7th St Burgers. Garth Ennis ruthlessly ripped his bosses at DC a new one until DC forced him out of the company and The Boys was forced out of Wildstorm (owned by Dc) and continued under the publisher Dynamite. These characters are too precious: Starlight slutted herself out to get on the Seven; tension in her relationship with Hughie who is too prideful. Queen Maeve had a nepo baby with Homelander. Black Noir is a clone of Homelander bringing into question the fact for all his power he’s nothing special. I’m worried the arc after this distraction will never take shape because all Garth Ennis stories from Hellblazer to Red revolve around male lead characters learning to be a responsible man that lives with the consequences and horrors of life. Preacher show screwed that up. Won’t be surprised if this show doesn’t stick the landing.

The boys comic is such a giant peice of slop. This comment is hilarious.
The show is much better than the source material. However, the show has already overstayed its welcome. 5 seasons is way too long for this schtick
There’s only one more season of Gen V

Really? Just making the two seasons and stopping? Have to admire that...
My favorite Superhero show! Blows away anything Disney and DC has poured out in years. And another director for Blade movie has quit.
I was suprised how terrible writing was in those 3 ep. Did writing room changed? Or they run out of source material? It’s awful. Pointless violence. Convoluted plot for no reason at all. Bizarre callbacks to the previous episodes. I dont know what happened. Because previous season was really solid. … and it’s politics. unfortunatelty I see more tinges of «woke» than in previous episodes. Previously I guess it was handled better. It’s this mixture of smug and sanctimony, yeah even if it regards their political opponents. you know tinfoil hats guys etc. something about it rubs me the wrong way. so thinly veiled. so crude, self-satisfied. Sometimes I feel writer give its characters those speeches about their political opponents you can almost feel writter felt giddy writting those words. like some bizarre fantasy. that’s despite my politica leanings. it’s just smug.
Your latest video is age locked.

Probs because he said “tittyf***ed” and maybe also “c*ms in her hair and wipes it off with his d**k”? But then it could also be because James features an Elric book on one of his shelves and that got him Moorcock-blocked. It happens. P.S. James, you really should feature Moorcock.
I watched all 3 hours of season 4, to see if it would ignite my interest, it hasnt. Its become Boring, dull, unispired and forgetable. I'll not be back.
Im tired of random shock value. Its quite disgusting some of the scenes and not needed at all. Frenchies ark makes zero sense. Its like Star Wars just randomly making Vader a good guy after a new hope.
surprised you're underwhelmed because you want more shock. We're building and we get some "normie" missions with frenchie and kimiko. Greatest opening 3 episodes since S1
I have heard that episode six is the wtf episode of the season from a cast interview

I heard it became very woke so i wont b watching.
