The Boys In The Boat Movie Review - One Of My Favorites This Year!

Фильм және анимация

The Boys in the Boat Movie Review - George Clooney directs the powerful story of a team of underdogs, rowing for a chance at glory. This film was felt like the perfect throwback to 90s inspirational movies. I had a blast with this movie and hopefully people will get to theaters to watch it!

I absolutely loved this movie. The audience clapped at the end and sat through the credits before standing up. When was the last time you saw that? Rowing can be boring to watch but the cinematography really captures the excitement when it’s up close. What I found amazing in this age of multimillion dollar athletes is that the main character was pulled out of a shabby homeless camp and beat the equivalent of the World Cup champions. Unbelievable. Don’t miss it. Thanks for your terrific review.

I'm probably not going to make it to the movies this period due to health concerns, but upon seeing the trailers for this movie, I can see the level that's operating at. It appears to be a Clint Eastwood classic B movie. Clint Eastwood is now very aged it appears, and with his last movie, it is clear that his best days are done. And while that's sad, it's important to remember exactly what Mr Eastwood did for us in the 80s and onward, with his directing style. He told great stories that might not have been Academy Award winners, but in fact were great stories being told both succinctly and very understandable, without any complex plot. Clint's B movies were his best movies. Let's just start with Gran Torino and also not to forget, Flags of Our Fathers. No I'm not talking about the budget or the marketing, it's all about the style of direction. I'm hoping George Clooney can fill that gap. I sure hope so because quality B movies reach so many people on so many different levels versus the scant successful high-end movies that will only occasionally hit their mark. The Boy's in the Boat movie looks like a really good B movie. I'm looking forward to streaming it.

This movie along with Seabiscuit, and any movie about Jesse Owens (also a 1936 Olympian Gold Medalist - no wonder Hitler was PO'd ), needs to be mandatory for every Junior or Senior HS student. An amazing review and movie. How much better can you do than ending the movie with the win? If you watch the PBS Documentary on this book, Joe Ranst's daughter comments on a story I wish had been in the movie. When the boys were walking around Berlin, they kept seeing the Nazi salute and "Heil Hitler" salutation. A bit confused they would return with the salute and "Heil Roosevelt". Another story was they were given a day off at one of their US competitions. FRD had a vacation home nearby and they decided to just pop in for a visit. FDR's son was home, he was a rower, and invited them in when they knocked on the door!

They sort of kept the first bit in. They substituted “Heil Roosevelt” with “Remember the Alamo!” The book version is much funnier, but the pace of the movie goes pretty fast so I can see why they decided to change it. It really emphasizes how little clue the guys (and most Americans) had at that point of what was really going on in Germany and how silly Hitler and the Nazis seemed at the time.

great review - saw it with my wife a week ago and we absolutely loved it. Doesn't try to go woke - no one actor tries to steal the show with their performance. Just solid script, solid acting, and beautifully directed. Not a lot of great movies you can take the whole family to, but this is one of them. Good reminder of the hard times this country has been through in the past (the Great Depression) and the grizzled, hard working Americans it produced.

Opened in England today, very disappointing movie IMHO. Not so much The Boys in the Boat, most were ignored and left anonymous. Very little sense of jeopardy, skipped over so much team building. Had a lot of George Clooney's niceness, but completely lacked bite. Dead in the water imho. You mention a subdued performance, entire film was subdued.

The book was fantastic. It’s a shame that they had to condense so much and leave out a lot more to get through three years worth of events. It really makes you feel what the boys, and everyone of that generation, went through. The boys were able to get work, but accommodations were not included and Joe had to live in a cold, damp basement. There’s enough storyline to have easily made it into a miniseries. For instance, the coach was going to replace Don Hume for the final race with the substitute because he was still in really rough shape. The other eight boys basically told him they didn’t care what he said, that they were going to strap Don in and do the work for him or basically not race. They were all determined not to let each other down.

@@df_productionsI’m guessing they are so upset about how much had to be cut. The book did a really excellent job of conveying how difficult times were then, both physically and emotionally. The story helped you get to know several of the guys a lot better than the movie. Bobby Moch’s father wrote him a letter explaining that he was Jewish, but had kept it a secret from everyone, even his kids, because he thought it was necessary for them to have a better life. It was really moving. I think the book did a better job at showing how Moch, despite being tiny in comparison the the other 8, was the one in charge not just because he was a good coxswain, but because they respected him. As far as chic flick, in real life Joe and Joyce were already engaged when they got to college and so their romance had a much different tone than “Will they get together?” It was more how he realized he had let Joyce in, and counted on her, and could start to do so with the boys, too.
