Every time I click on one of these overviews from Omar, I have to have a conversation with myself that takes me as long as the video itself about how no matter *what* he says, I will *not* buy the item he's reviewing. I win some, I lose some. Mostly lose.

@@Edorden it was a lot later than it should have been but I did get it. It was late due to the mail system being wrecked throughout Christmas season (far worse than usual) and not the company that I ordered it from. And I must say that the book is fantastic if you are a fan of the series.

@@Eyrrll I want to buy the book too! I have only read the 4 part mini series by Neil Gaiman and liked it very much. Now I want to read more, so do you think I will like this? Because a lot of people talk negative about this series and character.

@@youniques1316 it’s hard for me to say without knowing you. It’s a great story about a kid that that is far more powerful than he realizes, that stumbles through the world of magic through luck and generally good intentions. There is a strong connection to the faerie kingdoms and to other realms in the plot. At times it has a young, innocent Harry Potter feel to it (without the school backdrop) but it predates Harry by many years, so it’s not a knockoff. If you get it and like it, the second volume has been announced for later this year, which finishes this particular series... so I guess it sold well enough to justify the second volume. Side note: They did a few later series where they aged him up. Those series are a mixed bag, some good, some mediocre. I suspect that they aged him to keep him from looking like Harry Potter, who was in print by that time. And that’s ironic considering that Timothy was first.

I know im going to skip the stuff that comes after the main series (unless it is added in the second volume). Have you tried the Sandman Universe Books of Magic? I think that also looks interesting, but before I can get into the Sandman Universe stuff I have to follow my reading order.

I never read any of this. I was hyped for this. I’m half way through and really enjoying it. I really hope they collect the rest of this. Especially the new stuff. I don’t want to spoil it but from what I see in the new Hellblazer trades, the new Books of Magic looks great.

Great video! I have the first two Omnis for Sandman and Lucifer each, but when I read the BoM miniseries a while back, it didn’t hook me. This makes me at least curious, especially with other Vertigo characters coming through as well.

Obviously you know by now that Omnibus volume 2 is coming out October-ish, There is however enough materiel for a Volume 3. There was a 5 issue story called 'The Names of Magic that's been collected in a TPB, then there was a 25 issue run that's never been collected called 'Hunter the age of Magic'., and finally a 15 issue run called 'Books of Magick (sic): Life during Wartime' but only the first 5 issues were collected in a TPB in 2005, So 45 issues in all for a potential 3rd Volume.

Next we need Unwritten

I bought this and it truly is a great introduction to the DC magical universe especially the first 200+ pages by Gaimen. Having seen these characters here and there, this really helps start everything. FOR ME, I’m finding it extremely helpful in understanding the modern incantations of these characters. There is nothing in all of comics like the DC magical universe. One thing you may have missed is how the spines line up with the Lucifer Omnis. They put a lot of thought into that, so much so that they line up perfectly ..except the use of bold lettering on first names and omnibus. Almost DC, almost. They gave it a great DC try though.

I have already read the Neil Geiman Books of Magic and I loved it, but I just want more. That's why im thinking of getting this omni. Do you think its worth it?

One thing missing in this omnibus is the rewritten middle act of the children's crusade. For that you still need the 'Free Country - A Tale Of The Children's Crusade' edition.

@@devilmostdie The Children's Crusade was a crossover event in the Vertigo line in the 90s. The story was taking place in various annual editions. As i understand the crossover wasn't considered to be a success and DC decided to have the story to be redone for the collected edition. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Children's_Crusade_(comics)

I've been so darn excited for this run to be properly collected. They tried some thick paperbacks a couple years ago, and per DC tradition, they bailed a couple volumes in. Better not do that here, though this gets *almost* all the way through the initial run by Rieber. I don't think the miniseries inclusion was necessary at all, but doesn't hurt and I'm sure maybe helps sales. If only they had made it clear before the book was literally coming out.

It's amazing I got mine last week I was surprised because of the current situation with the post.

Omar you should of showed the spine next to the Lucifer omnis. I feel like they designed it so they look good next to eachother. At least it's a happy coincidence if it wasn't on purpose lol

got this today and love it! It got delayed a few time in the UK and only release the other day. My copy looks like it has a better binding than your one.

Bought the Deluxe last year. Sigh... Not sure if I want to double dip and pick this up. On the other hand, I am glad they did include the original BoM series. Watching this, the omni does look good though. Tempting.

Heads up, but both Target (online) and Amazon are selling this omnibus for about half the retail price.

For those who've read this series, how would you compare it to Sandman and Lucifer in terms of overall quality? Just as good? Almost? It looks promising but I'm unsure if I should put it high up on my list of 'to get' books.

Still waiting for my copy.... USPS got extremely slow recently. Have other books ordered at the end of Nov and arrived local office 2 weeks ago, still not delivered yet.

I bought this just because I'm a Sandman fan and have not read it yet. It has some big shoes to try and fill

Now only if we can get a fables omnibus it would be complete.

This and Conan by Busiek are my first two omnibus buys. I've only read the first two issues of these series, but oh my goodness is this book big! How do you read books this big?! I usually hold books in my hand but this is huge! Is there a stand you use?

I'm a little bit confused, you said there are 32 issues of this series but when I look I only see there are 23. Did they not release these other issues for this series separately or in vol's they did with the sandman lucifer series? And if so is this the only way I'm able to get the rest of the issues?

Peter Snejberg’s name is pronounced Snee-ay-berg, if I’m not mistaken. It’s one I mispronounced a lot too. 😉

Hey Omar, long time watcher here with a question. I know it's unrelated to Books of Magic, but I have been on a Moon Knight kick recently. I know the tv series was announced and as such I was wondering if you know about them reprinting any of the older runs on Moon Knight. Everything from Mornch right up to Lemire is pretty much out of print with trades running $60+ online. No Omni of the Marvel Now series which is a travesty. Just curious, I'll keep watching and listening and crossing my fingers as the years pass. All the best

There are three Epics that collect the Moench run, but you are right some are out of print. However, volume 1 is being reprinted.

I prefer that the first series is included here but That was a dirty move by DC to put the wrong info in the solicits. I bought the deluxe edition bc it wasn’t in the solicit. Now I have a useless deluxe. 😡

I don’t think any Vertigo series are dependent on reading any other Vertigo series. That’s the real beauty of these books. You don’t need to know 50-75 years worth of continuity to enjoy. However, if you do read one series, there are certain times where you might see an Easter egg appear in another series. I remember seeing John Constantine in an early issue of Sandman years before I ever read any of his books and didn’t feel I had really missed anything and as quick as he appeared, he exited the series again, all within that sort-of self-contained issue.

The original miniseries was fantastic, a great story and beautiful art. However, the follow-ups look like a huge step downwards at least when it comes to the art. Pity.
