To me it didn't work well, just felt like an edgelord fanfic-esque conceptual cross between the Red Son comics and Max Landis' Chronicle movie from like ten years ago. And those aren't the only takes on the idea of an eeeeeeeeeevil or renegade amoral Supes, it has been done to death.
