The Blue-Chip Ratio: Which College Football Teams Can Win a National Title in 2024?

Which College Football teams can win a National Title in 2024? While the answer is not an exact science, Bud Elliot from CBS Sports has created a rule, called the Blue-Chip Ratio, that rules out several possible teams. The Blue-Chip Ratio states that to win it all, a college football team must have 50% or more of their roster composed of 4 and 5-star players. This means that over 100 teams, even Ole Miss, are predicted to be incapable of winning a National Title this year. In addition to ruling out 100+ College Football teams, I think only Texas Football, Penn State Football, Michigan Football, Oregon Football, Alabama Football, Georgia Football, and Ohio State Football have sizeable chances of winning it all. Auburn is a sleeper and a serious contender. They have been hitting it big with recruiting and they are looking very competitive

Only chance of that to have happened was 15 years ago with Boise St. That team With Moore and Petterson was something special.

How big of a deal is it for LSU getting Bo Davis? On the flip side, how big of a loss is it for us at Texas to lose him? What he did with our DL under Sark was special.

In your tip 4, Oregon has the lowest chance of getting to the semis. Why? First year in Big Ten, some tough games on the road in a new conference. Opportunities for surprise outcomes.

I'm a Buckeye and I think that Oregon is the best team in the country to start the season. They'll win a close one vs Ohio State at home but in the long run of the season, Ohio State will improve at qb and oline and ultimately have a better finish than Oregon.

I said the 2021 and 2022 Georgia defenses could be better. 2023 Georgia's defense was far below 2023 Ohio State's defense, and I think OSU's defense last year was overall more stable than the 2021 and 2022 Georgia units.

Ceiling is undefeated and win out. Floor is 8-4, losses to: OSU, Oregon, UT, USC
Notre dame can be taken off the list, they always disappoint and should never be in the top 10.
