it's a high pressure coaching position at USC, and after what? 6 years of Helton? you can't rebuild a dynasty in days, he's a too 5 coach proven developer of talent..he already got a proven DC ( top 10 defense at ucla in 1 year) I GUARANTEE THAT IF YOU GIVE THIS COACH ALUMNI SUPPORT, AND THE SAME 6 YEARS THAT HELTON GOT....NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

If I had to choose one I'd pick Dan Lanning easily. Buckeyes just got Jim knowles. Riley would run him off.

@@timprangley6907 Chip Kelly is already a concern for me regarding recruiting the offense. Lincoln Riley gives me too much concern that he wouldn't emphasize recruiting the defense enough and eventually run off Jim Knowles. Not everyone is as patient as the Iowa DC

Dan Lanning is a good coach. It’s not just Phil Knight. I’m not an Oregon fan but I have to give credit where it’s due. Not saying he’s better than Riley but don’t sleep on Oregon

I have no doubt that Lanning and Lupoi are good recruiters, but the success that UO is having is substantially amplified by Knight.

@@timprangley6907it’s “amplified” by Knight for sure. But some people are acting like he’s not a good coach. That sounds like USC bias and I’m a USC fan. Outside of SC country analysts are over praising Lanning but SC fans are underestimating him. I’m more in the middle

Lincoln Riley is not on a hot seat. Our hypothetical about him dropping 5 games in each of the next two years is fantasy. What happened last year was an anomaly. I'm not saying 12-0, but if I was asked to bet what is mor elikely one loss or five losses over the next two years, I wouldn't hesitate with one loss given Riley's track record.

What big ten fans don't realize USC was brought in for a reason to make our conference more competitive we need USC to be great the more playoff teams we get better chance our conference wins it all 👍

I think that USC, Oregon, Washington and UCLA bring a lot to the Big Ten and if all three can get close to their potential, the Big 10 would be the strongest conference in the country... or at the very least make the conversation a stalemate.

Lol, Lanning would rip Linky Boy's throat out in a cage match if you talk about having a tough attitude. Lanning is going to out physical and dominate Riley's soft Air Raid team as long as Riley is at USC. USC has become softer than Washington State lol! I agree Lanning hasn't won the big game. He is getting better every year and is still getting his guys. Lanning is rising and Riley is sinking. Go Ducks and Ohio State is concerned about Oregon and not the USC for a reason!

Listen, there is a reason why you guys are the Discount Ducks that came in at half off USC's price tag. As soon as NIL guardrails are introduced to CFB, the great job the Ducks are doing at roster building will go away... but USC will still be there.

@@timprangley6907Oregon has been out recruiting USC for years now without NIL…and before Oregon started out-recruiting USC, they were still beating USC. Lanning is going to be a generational coach…and he’s in it for the long haul at Oregon. I know we lost three close games to a team that plays Oregon like it’s their Super Bowl, and he was 4 or 5 plays away from being 26-1. And I understand Lanning’s doesn’t want to get more amped up for the Washington game to stay consistent in every game…I think they have too get more amped up, since Washington is playing better by doing the same thing. Long story short, Lanning would be an even better coach than Lincoln Riley at USC, he would be a better recruiter at USC, and he is better at hiring coaches. He has flipped 82players in three seasons with the transfer portal, and 62players his first two off-seasons. Now he finally has all the guys he wanted, especially since the DL that he recruited for the future were freshman and sophomore’s in 2023. Yrs we rotated 30+ people on defense last year, but they just weren’t major contributors like they will be in 2024. And the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes are going to be the staple classes that get Oregon the cfb playoff final. And as the Ohio State KZread channels are saying, along with ex OSU coaches and players…Oregon will win one natty in the next 5yrs, and they could win two…since Zack Smith has Oregons championships at 1.5 in the next 5yrs. Again, Lanning is ahead of Riley because Riley won’t be anywhere close to a championship in the next 5yrs. And this list is going off of how Oregon is recruiting LA right now. In 2-3yrs, Oregon will be pulling the players out of LA that they want. As for what Lincoln Riley has done…it was in the weaker Big12, and he has now shown that he isn’t as great of a coach as people thought before USC. And now Riley is going to be another 8 or 9 win coach again, after lanning won 10+ games both seasons, and he is gonna be even better in 2024. One coach is going down, and the other is going up each year, and it’s obvious 2025 and 2026 are gonna keep going even higher.

I disagree and most objective people would. Riley has 6 great seasons, three Playoff appearances, multiple conference championships and three Heismans. What does Lanning have? A 9 point win in Autzen against USC's worst defense possibly ever...

Sounds like 'user' is a bit jealous. Riley was hired to take over a storied football program and has truly failed miserably. Lanning has helped turn a very good program at Oregon into one that's even better. It is true that the DUCKS are fortunate to have a Phil Knight as a financial backer, but so many other programs have similar supporters behind them. Just have to get over it and hope like the dickens Riley starts earning his $10 million!!

I wouldn't use the word storied..lol, because of the last sucky 20 years of USC stinkball. Carrol left because of the scandals so that's not storied either! You guys have crumbled like the Roman Empire and the State of California is crumbling around you. You may never be an elite program again, if you can't do it in 20 years. There is no supporter in the country like Knight. He's put over $1 BILLION into the UofO. What other program has both a competitive football team/NIL pot AND an entire track program and facility that is known as Track Town USA? Nobody has unlimited funds other than Knight along with his desperation to win before he croaks.

Your premise is broken. Lanning inherited the best roster and NIL collective/administration in the conference. Riley walked into 6 years of USC seppuku (samurai falling on his sword). To compare what they walked into is ignorant or obtuse to be frank.

@@timprangley6907 Best NIL for sure and I already acknowledged that. Best roster IMO, goes to Utah prior to Lanning's hiring. Kiffin walked in to worse. And Riley didn't walk in uninformed. He walked in as the highest paid coach in the country and declaring he would make USC the mecca of college football along with the #1 QB in the country. He's underperformed in those regards. Lanning is unproven, I'm not sure what he's capable of. He was the coordinator but not the mastermind of UGA's historic defense.

Well, let's see, ones just standing on a side line and calling up Phil Knight to recruit for him. He's has Phil Knight money yet he lost to some universities that have less money to work with. To me I'll take Lincoln Riley any day, Dan has yet to show me he can coach, Phil Knight is the coach of Oregon to me. Dan isn't doing anything no different than Mario was doing. At this point Oregon and the NIl, hell Daffy duck can be the coach of that team and he'd wouldn't have to do anything but coach. My question can Dan coach. They're always talking about Lincoln Riley on the hot seat, no. River boat Dan is on the hot seat. Phi Knight has been spending money now on Oregon for the future and even more since the NIL. Dan isn't doing anything on recruiting Phil Knight is buying the recruiting. Like said Oregon needs a coach and Dan hasn't proven he can coach to me. They keep saying this and that about how Dan is doing a good job of recruiting, people Dan isn't doing nothing, their recruiting is the same as Mario because you don't have to recruit. You just have to be able to coach

Money alone doesn't equate to successful recruiting. You still have to prove an ability to develop and put kids in the NFL. If money alone was enough, then Oregon would have a dozen Nattys. And if money alone was enough, then Oregon would win every recruiting battle out there and they don't. Plus, there are still kids out there who are focused on things other than up-front money. Lanning has assembled a very competent staff, has gone 22-5 with 2 bowl wins in 2 years at just 38. Cristobal was 35-13 (23-9 conference) in 6 years and went from the Rose to the Fiesta to the Alamo. Lanning has been successful everywhere he's been and has a Natty ring as a coordinator. Personally, I don't think a Riley vs Lanning is a good comparison as one needs a few more years to find out if he really has the stones whereas Riley probably should have done better at this point.
