So black dishes for black folks and white dishes for white folks. Now we just need a green reflector for those hot green chicks from Star Trek.

This just confirms what many people have been saying. It is simple science that black absorbs light. Why would you need 400 watt seconds of power to shoot in less than adverse outdoor conditions? The only reason is that you would need extra power against black to do what you could do with half the power with a white/silver interior.

"so you make those adjustments in camera to get the results you desire" that's with any and all diffusers. but I think this drastically reduces you flash power..

I just got the Black Dish. It looks great and feels quite sturdy but it is insanely hard to press those buttons to collapse the modifier. And I'm not a weak man. I had to use the back of a pocket knife to tap the buttons to release the tension. It was impossible to open it handheld (I always find it easier to put these types of modifiers on the floor to open them) and very difficult to close. Still looking forward to using it but damn, the softbox shouldn't be that difficult to close. One of the things Brandon is very wrong about is that a black interior will give a softer light than white or silver. That's just preposterous. But like I said, I'm excited to try it out.

Nove video Shawn, I’m loving mine as well. Maybe you have noticed this as well but with the skin tone his dish gives it a golden glow to the skin. Have you noticed that with your shoots?

Have you tried collapsing it yet? Most of the buttons on mine are impossible to press and I'm not a weak man.

Hey Jason, yes I have. I was going to make a video for the newer people that just got there’s but when you first get them they will be stiff but the second or third time opening and closing them it gets way easier. Just play with them they will loosen up.

I hate to tell ya, but you've been finessed. All this would do is reduce your light output. Have your ever watched technical videos on this modifier? It seems like a scam made to target amateur shooters.

Hmmm this makes no sense in the general photographic sense. As we all know, black absorbs light, so having an all black beauty dish would mean you'd have to increase your stoppage by what? three to six stops just to get to f/5 or f/8? I respect innovation greatly, but I absolutely fail to see how this is good. All of your photos look under exposed by at least a full stop. Did you shoot comparative photos with a standard beauty dish?

I tried to like it, I was expecting it to wow me and it just does not. It seems gimmicky at best. I love lighting would try anything once but I just can’t get past I was not impressed. As for the quality hard to see that on KZread. I know I purchase a Chinese octa a while back that looked exactly like that and I had a had a hard time with it. I will keep look ro see if I see that pop that I am looking for

I would say it try again maybe in different lighting situation. I will say this, you can get the same final product with any softbox / setup with adjustments. For me it has to fit in my workflow or make the job easier and if doesn't work for you, I respect that. 💪🏾

@@ShawnLPorterPhotography not here to pound my chest my brother. I have been in this industry for a few decades. I own a studio in a mid size town. When I started there was no KZread. I was mentor by a PPA past national president that sent me home in tears more than once. I use to compete in print comps so I had to Lear lighting. I go to KZread Chanels to see what’s out there are 99.1% are lacking. One of the few that I have come across that knows he is doing is Seth Maranda. You are right this is only a tool. I hope that this does what it says but from what I see, I will stay hopefully optimistic. In my studio I run profoto the D2 is no joke. When I talk about pop that is what I mean.
