the actor is great! his name is jamie something and i saw some videos of him with eddie’s actor, joseph quinn, and they both seem like such great guys.

fun fact the show writers said in an interview that after this battle happened with 001, el slipped into a coma because of how much trauma she experienced which made her lose most of her memories and her ability to speak :( and the gate closed in that time but brenner used her for years to try and study the upside down and open the gate and he basically made her relive all her trauma without her knowing until she finally gained a slight memory about the tunnel 001 showed her and used it to escape... her story is so heartbreaking. i hope she burns that lab to the ground after she gets her powers back

no the 001 incident happened a couple of years before will went missing which was when eleven escaped. in this season's episode 1 the year shown was 1979(the year eleven fought 001) but eleven escaped and met the other boys in the year 1983

I don't really get it either. How could she have known that her teenage friend would just up and die after being alone for a few minutes? No reason for Nancy to think it's her fault, that's just cliché imo.

Both her and max thought of happy memories because that’s his weakness, that’s why he torments them further because it helps him, but happy memories are needed to defeat him

it all ties back together too like in episode 4 after max escaped vecna she said he looked surprised- which was because he saw max's memories with el and was shocked and thats why he let her run away so easily unlike with chrissy where he chased her around the house when she tried to escape him. he knows max will somehow lead him to el so he let her run

"What did you do?" seems most like Brenner figuring out that El released One's powers. And as far as El seeing herself as a baby, I think it's more like the "power of love" triumphing over the power of sadness and anger, which is what he taught her.

Most likely but keep in mind I don’t think he even fully knows what happened, I think he can only see the memories if he replays them or maybe he just needed her to know and remember. Also depend on how much the room was recording everything, most of it is literally just her memories.

@@samanthalikos4315 There's more than a four year difference from the massacre (1979) to Eleven escaping the lab (1983). Brenner has to recognize One's style of destruction or he wouldn't have put that thing in his neck to block his power. He might think El has the same powers, but he's also side-eyeing One all the time. And all the children's bodies are there, but One's just disappears? Even if he's not 100% certain of the events that took place, he has to know that.

Yes, Brenner knew 001 was a little serial killer and all the kids and staff were killed like 001/Henry's mom and sister. So to me Brenner's "What did you do?" was to El removing the restraint off of 001. Brenner would have had to review the video tapes to see that El opened a gate.

victor didn't lie. one said that his mother doubted him and was planning to sent him away to a doctor, so dr brenner was already aware of one. so dr brenner probably came and took one when he was in coma and told victor that he died in coma

I was thinking Number 1 might have gotten his powers genetically because his dad was in the war? IDK, I was thinking about what Hopper was talking about with being in the war and inhaling all those chemicals and their kids all got sick, but what if Victor Creel handled something real weird in the war and maybe his kid got powers? it's a little out there but hey so are radioactive spider bites lol

But it also mentions that his mom was worse. Seeing that the whole program is based on MK-altra maybe his mom took LSD while pregnant and that's how he got his powers. And they used that info to create all the other kids...But that just me thinking out loud.

I think you’re wrong on the sad or angry memories for El. I think she is stronger than 001 because she pulled on love … her mother and her birth. If you noticed when she pulled on her flash of seeing all her “siblings” dead she was not matching 001 strength, when she pulled on the memory of her mother she sent him to the upside down.

I think that he was just completely ignorant of what a happy memory is, because he simply doesn't have any. He had no friends and lived with a neglectful family before ending up with Dr. Brenner who only supported the violent side of him and treated him with absolutely no warmth. The first person we know ever actually cared about him was Eleven, but she cared about everyone.

I think the point of the last memory eleven got before sending one to the upsidedown is that its exactly the opposite of what he told her to do. he said that she could find strength in memories that maker her sad or angry, which is what eight also told her back in season 2. and yes while anger and sadness can and have helped her channel her powers, the whole point is that love is stronger. because after one asked her to join him ans she said no, she thought of all the dead kids and of the day that her mother was taken away and that wasn't enough, one was about to kill her. and then she remembered. i guess, at least at that point in time that was her happiest memory, the first time she ever saw her mom. i bet that is going to be connected with breaking vecna's curse.

I think there's definitely going to be a situation where El uses her powers by channeling love and good memories which will help her to either defeat Vecna... Or my own theory is that over time if the Mind Flayer is indeed a seperate entity, he may have been gradually getting a stronger hold on Vecna/001 the more he uses the hive mind. What is like what El did with Billy, by being strong enough to pull Billy's mind out of the control of the MF, she could do the same for 001, and then make him remember or feel love and good memories, and it could be enough to turn him to the good side and break the Mindflayer's hold on him. And then season 5 we could have 01 and 011 work together to finally defeat the Mindflayer and destroy the upside down once and for all.

no he said that because from his point of view (the one we saw in episode one) it seemed like she killed all the other test subjects remember he couldnt have known that she removed the thing from his neck because he was in the room with ten he passed out and then immediately went to the rainbow room the gate she opened had already closed so his initial reaction was "what have you done" because she "killed" the other kids in his eyes letter in the vol 2 trailer it seems like he did notice the crack on the wall so he did the experiements with el to get her strong enough and to have her learn how to control her powers to reopen the gate because he was intrigued by it also number one was naturally born with abilities the reason El had powers was because of the experiementd her mother took part in while she was pregnant and yes those experiements purpose was to have them develop powers now when it comes to this season and the second spesifically there are plot holes that i hope they will be explained in the second volume sadly not a lot of people have noticed them but they were the first thing that came to mind for me while i was watching this season

@@luckypuffs7463 it wasn't confirmed by anyone(other than 001) that he was naturally born with the powers. How is it that his father oblivious to his powers but his mother knew? Why did his mom know the doctor to call, to deal with this specific situation? It seems like his mom was keeping an eye out for this, so when she detected it, she called the person, whom she may have already known.

@@Cole_McGill I feel like you contradicted yourself here. Yes, his mom seemed to be keeping an eye out for that, and that to me seems like even more evidence that he was born with them, and might also mean she was familiar with that power.

I think Brenner realized 1 was teaching 11 to use anger which Brenner did not like because it was to unpredictable & therefore punished him. In 11's battle against 1 what helped her overpower him was a happy memory. Influences for the characterization of the Orderly/01/Vecna are Freddy Krueger, Pinhead, Voldemort and Aaron Stampler from Primal Fear played by Ed Norton.

This was such a great episode I love how all of the episodes this season have felt more cinematic I love the twist of number I eat the end that was so well done now I hope that the last part of the season concludes it well and that would solidify this season of stranger things as my favourite ever

The reason El saw the memory of her birth, I think, is because when Vecna attacks his victims he makes a psychic connection to them, so it was probably him who pulled that memory up for her.

Sadie Sink steals this whole season for me!! I loved her in the All Too Well Short Film (highly recommended). Can’t wait to see what projects she will do next!!

It's a tie between her and Murray for me

I don't think we need to figure out where 001 got his powers - he was just born different. We don't even know really why El (or any of those other kids) have powers, though Brenner might have been giving their mother's some kind of chemical cocktail to try and create more like 001. I think the "What did you do?" is referring to either opening the portal OR taking that controller thing out of 001's neck, which set him free to do all that damage. I think Brenner thought 001 might help El find her strength but not that he would be able to turn her loyalty enough to set 001 free. So 001 is Vecna, who has been stuck in the Upside Down, becoming more twisted and powerful. I don't think he could make contact into the real world until El tore open the new Gate, which is why it's only now that he's beginning to kill the teens. I remember back in S1-S2, people were speculating that Will was gay but I haven't seen any reactors for this season even commenting that Will might have an unrequited love for Mike. The show does seem to hint at it - the painting was assumed to be for someone Will liked and it's clear Will wants to give it to Mike, Will had no interest in that girl flirting with him, and some of the things he's said sound more like actual jealousy rather than Mike being more interested in his gf than his BFF. I think Mike might subconsciously sense it, which is why their relationship became so awkward. That's my theory when it comes to Will and Mike. Will needs a love interest - boy or girl.

Wasn't it always implied that 11 has her powers because her mother was a test subject for MKULTRA? And 001 says that his mother somehow knew that it was him doing all the weird things, which I think maybe hints that she was also involved in MKULTRA

It seems like the MKULTRA program was created by Brenner to study and recreate Henry Creel Powers (that originate naturally). He probable use Henry's genetic material to impregnate female subjects treated with LSD trying to created another superpowered agent that he could control. That's why wey only talk about Eleven and the other kids mother's (but not the father), why they are all called brothers and sisters and why they keep One alive and contained (in case they need to breed more subjects)

the infos: 1. Vecna is Henry Creel, 2. Papa recreated weaker versions of Henry's power and one of them is Eleven, 3. Upside-down made a copy of Hawkins from the moment it opened, 4. Vecna uses fear memory and Eleven uses love memory, 5. Mind Flayer is kind like the spider and the originator of Upside-down

3) The copy from the UpsideDown it's from the night of Will's abduction (year 83). That was not the first time a portal was open (Eleven banishes One on the year 79), but the first time it remained open for a longer period.

Vecna was a great villain this season, hope to see him more in part 2 along with 001. That twist at the end was great also.

36:29 Victor didn’t lie, he really thinks his son died. Papa stole him from the hospital after learning he had special abilities- just like when he stole Jane from her mom as a baby

I have a theory about how Henry Creel received his power, but it's not quite developed enough for me to mention. I don't think that Victor lied to Nancy about his son; I think that the "Henry died after his coma" was a misdirect to Victor concocted by Dr. Brenner. For Victor, his son died, but we know the truth. 001's implant is called Soteria. I find that incredibly interesting; "soteria" means deliverance or salvation, so Brenner certainly knows how powerful 001 is. I think providing "soteria" to 001 is a means at delivering or saving people. It backfires because El removes the implant because now, 001 is free to act at will. [This is not an endorsement of Brenner's methods, which I still find to be manipulative.]

@@ikskwizit 001 could be manipulating El like a chess piece. Young Henry was a schemer of sorts, setting up his pop Victor to be arrested for the murder of his wife and sister he killed himself. Like the metaphorical chessboard, black versus white, they pretended to play for the camera. El's biological mother possessed powers as well. For all we know, El's biological father didn't go off to the Vietnam War, but was actually Dr. Brenner, who called her "daughter" when giving her the choice to retrain.

@@ssotkow maybe it's something that happened during the war. i mean one's father was in the war and el's father is said to be in the war. and in this season hopper talked about how they were made to handle dangerous chemicals which affected the kids they had in the future and most of them were born with abnormalities and many died young. what if one and eleven is kids of such soliders who was also exposed to some chemicals which resulted in them being born with psychic powers rather than abnormalities. that's why eleven and one are more powerful than the other kids. or maybe dr brenner used the same chemical one's father was exposed to and directly exposed it to eleven when she was a foetus. that might also explain why she seems to be more powerful than one.

@@ikskwizit not necesarily a clone, i think all the kids from number 2 to 17 are Henry's biological children with the MKULTRA female subjects. That's why they are from different races (the mother's are different).

Really loved the twist in this episode. I thought it was really strange how they showed everyone get taken out except the son back in the flashback. But him being 001 was absolutely not what I was thinking. Really hoping the California cast gets more screentime in Volume 2. And some elaboration on Will's super obvious crush on Mike

I want to know why he left papa alive. It can’t be because he thought he was dead. He was too powerful for that. Plus he kills them all the same way. wouldn’t he want to be sure Papa was dead out of all of them??

Maybe he wanted him to see all the dead kids before killing him. Remember thr psychological torturing methods he used on all his victims? He always plays mind games and is clearly megalomaniac. He probably wanted to get back at him and had a personal grudge. These were Dr. Branner's tools and the project he's worked on for so long, so it must have meant a lot to him in his own twisted way. He wanted to show him he can't control him and to show his superiority. Dr. Branner ended up following the trail of bodies to the rainbow room, and that's probably when 001 was planning to maybe do some villain speech and then kill him. Or maybe just leave him alive for the sake of his own ego. He also left Victor alive to suffer. This also feels like it was for his own ego though.

El must've remembered a little bit from this day because when she escaped Hawkins Lab four years later she used the same pipe that 001 told her about. She ripped a piece from her hospital gown as she exited the pipe and ran into the woods.

I believe that was basically the explanation that's came from the creators of the show.

People have forgotten about this part but the season started in March 1986, about a month before Chernobyl so I still really wonder if part two will include that, like many have brought up too…

henry’s life is so full of hate, so pulling his power and energy from anger and sadness works for him. however, el is loving and compassionate. only pulling from her loving and happy memories will make her the strongest

"He's 001, but you're 011, you got two 1s." LOL

when brenner walked into the rainbow room and asked El “what did you do?” he might have noticed the mark on the wall behind her and realized she had opened a portal; in episode one you can see a black crack where 001 died.

I wonder if they are going to actually wrap up this story in Vol. 2. I feel like they won’t, and we might be headed towards a full on war with the upside down cause the military will probably discover the truth and potentially the people of Hawkins discovering the same since they’re basically on a witch hunt right now for the Hellfire club.

I feel like they will think that they killed him in the final episode, but in the last scene we‘ll see he‘s still alive and then they have to fight him again in season 5, probably with the other kids from Hawkins Lab that we saw in season 2

This is exactly the reaction I was looking for the Vecna reveal scene! I really wanted to see people being shocked because so far I've only seen 1 reaction where the guy figured everything out before the 7th episode

fun fact: vecna is the blonde guy from Twlight!!! that was apart of the Volturi. i was shocked to find that out when i watched this 😂

Victor Creel's son mentioned having to learn how to use his abilities when he was torturing and killing the rabbit. Because of that, I think that he was born with his powers and learned how to use them. However, he chose to use them to hurt and kill and Dr. Brenner couldn't really get him to redirect his powers, so Dr. Brenner suppressed them. I also think that Dr. Brenner wasn't just trying to recreate 001, but to create someone with his powers but willing and able to use them for "good". Exactly like Eleven. Just my thoughts on it.

I think all the other subjects (including Eleven) might be created using One genetic material. Brenner was trying to breed another superpower agent, that he could control. That's why he keep Henry Creel around despite hum being dangerous, in case he needed more sperm.

Honestly this is one of my favorite Villains ever as well as his monologue. Probably one of my favorite monologues ever. Surprisingly it wasn’t cheesy.

I can't believe more people didn't realise the link between the way the children were killed at the lab in the beginning and the way Vecna was killing his victims. The missing eyes! I noticed it straight away. Then when 1 and El were in the hallway trapped by the guards, I knew he was about to use his powers and that he was 1. Awesome episode and such a good reveal with 001 being Vecna. Can't wait for Vol. 2 ❤ Edit: I think Nancy's trauma makes sense. I'm interested to see how she gets out of there. Kinda living for her and Steve potentially getting back together. Hopefully nothing happens to either of them.

I predicted he would be Vecna based off of his eyes. Vecnas eyes are shockingly blue and so were 001s. I watched with my partner and he guessed the guy was 001 and I guessed he was vecna. We were both pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

Funny how eddie seems like a tough guy when you first look, has this nonchalant exterior, but irl would rather die than even imagine a battle with anybody. Where steve, who stuck to being the mom of the group driving them to places and fading into the bg with his bat, went actually barbaric on the bats.

well my theory is that when eleven tried to follow one's tip and use anger it wasn't enough to defeat one. but the memory of her birth was one that made her feel loved and since this is in the past that may have been the only time she felt such unconditional love. so maybe basically they are hinting that eleven will have to relay on love to defeat vecna kinda like how max used the memories of her friends to break free from vecna

So number 1/Vecna got his powers from his dad. If you recall Hopper stated that when he was enlisted that they would clean some chemical stuff and that it affected the newborns of the people who were around the chemicals. Victor states he had been in the military I’m almost 100% sure that he was probably around that same chemicals. So I’m sure number 1 got his powers from those test chemicals and stuff. This is just a theory

Agent Orange is from the Vietnam War, while Victor was in WWII - about 15 years difference there. I don't think there is any explanation for 001's powers. He was just born with them and then discovered and learned to use them on his own.

@@serralinda73 But didn't he only discover his powers after interacting with the black widows in the vent? And I think someone said they appeared before when the mindflare did.. So maybe the mindflare somehow gave him the powers using the spiders? Though I'm not sure how.. But I mean where were his powers before? If you remember, the mindflare we saw before kind of had a spider-like shape, and when the mindflare connects his tentacles to vecna it kind of reminds me of a spider shape too. Just a theory.

@@Future_Pheonix He was a kid. If you don't know you can do something, you don't do it. It seemed from the flashbacks that he stared at the clock, wanting to stop time, and somehow made the clock run backwards - that was his first time affecting something with his mind (at least, that's how I took the scene). Then he tried it on the little animals and so on. If it was directly from a spider bite (like Spiderman), they would have shown that. I also think he was picking up people's emotions or thoughts from a very young age, which is why he was so weird even before they moved to the new house. The spiders fascinated him but I don't think any bit him. He told El to focus on a memory and emotion. Whatever triggers the power in them all, it seems to come from intense focus and desire, then raw emotion adds strength. He had a lot of emotions building up inside of him and eventually found a way to use them. El uses hers as well - fear, anger, sadness and...protectiveness. 001 atacc, El protecc.

This season was definitely the best one yet!

001 was born with powers there could have been number of factors why, anyway his mom knew it and contacted Brenner... Anyway Brenner studied 001 and tried to create more children with powers and paid people to volunteer while they were experimented on so that they could develop powwrs or have children with powers. That's how terry (jane'mom) got powers remember that she had volunteered and was pregnant at that time while terry didn't have much powers but her daughter eleven got more powers. Her mom was shown to have some degree of telepathic / telekinetic powers when she was able to signal eleven that she needs to talk to her in mindscape by fluctuating the lights at her home ( season 2)

So let me get this straight...Vecna is actually Victor's son, who is also a 001, who is also a guard who helped Eleven, and...who is also Eleven's genetic father? Or how does that work? Jeez, that's quite a lot of twists for one episode.

You're right in everything, except that it was never specified that Eleven was 001/Henry Creel/"Friendly Orderly"/Vecna's offspring. Remember, Jane/Eleven was kidnapped, she had real parents.

They definitely not his clones or something, so how exactly is this recreaton works if not as being their parent? And as i recall, we don't know anything about Eleven's father as well.

@@TheArrowedKnee correction, Eleven has a mother. As all the other kids. But fathers are never mention. They all call Brenner Papa, but why would he usted his own genetic material in the study. Wouldn't it make mucho more sense to used the genetic material of the one superpower being you already have to breed others that can be more easily control? That's also why they keep Henry alive despite being so dangerous.

i think it’s hilarious a lab full of geniuses didn’t think twice about putting a neutered sociopath among impressionable kids with power. the show even makes it a point of showing Papa noticing interactions between the two…and yet nothing. 🙄

@@JBWinter, this season was riddled with that kind of stuff. when the kids biked away in the cul de sac and all the parents and cops came outside; their cars were right behind them. their kids were disappearing into the dangerous night so why didn’t anyone get into their cars and catch up to them? many characters lacked situational awareness or underwent personality / intellectual regression to fit the plot. bloated cast with adults acting, literally and character-wise, dumber than the children. $30 million per episode for $10 dollar script. MESS.

@@JBWinter, it’s less about stupidity and more about direction from the producers. watch the scene where Erica points out the flickering lights in kitchen. Dustin jumps to his feet in surprise, despite he and Lucas facing the flickering lights…so many scenes felt acted out on a stage rather than an actual show.

What everyone seems to overlook is some key points while he talked about #1. He said everything was hard for him too and he didn't do as well as the others until he found that memory, than one day it all came together for him. He also stated after his coma he was back in the hands of the doctor he tried to escape..... he didn't always have powers.

I saw this theory when i finished season 4(warning its pretty gross and unethical) that brenner was unable to find any other children with the innate abilities of telepathy, so he used the dna (specifically the sperm) of the only telekinetic person he was able to find, henry (aka 001). Which means he basically forced Henry to father at least 17 children starting when he himself was still a child (so practically as soon as he hit puberty) and then convinced women to be a part of these experiments and carry these children in exchange for what was most likely a large sum of money. I saw this theory a day or two after I finished the series and it makes to much sense especially since at least to me all the children look kinda similar, kinda like they all shared the same dad but different moms. Now everytime i see someone who has watched it i just have to share it and get their point of view

That would also explain why they only discuss the mother's in the program, but not fathers (there's only one). That's why Brenner called them brothers and sisters. It's also mess up how he has taken the role of father to all of them (since he controls his biological father)

Not likely. It was already stated in a prior season that Janes mother was not aware of her own pregnancy when she was initially taking part in the program. Its still technically possible, just incredibly unlikely. In order for 001 to be Jane's father, Brenner somehow would have had to impregnate the woman without her knowledge or consent. I know the show has gotten darker with violence but Brenner using a minor's sperm to impregnate a woman against her will just seems way more extreme than the show is willing to go. Plus it counters how much the show is trying to humanize Brenner in season 4.

Oh, this episode was fantastic. ***SPOILERS BELOW*** While I *did* see one of those twists coming (the fact that the orderly was, in fact, 001), I certainly did NOT see the other two twists coming: the fact that he was the son of Victor Creel, AND the fact that he became Vecna. Just, wow. This season (the first half of it, anyway) was SO GOOD. Here's hoping that the second half of this season will also deliver in a big way. Great review/commentary here, guys. Cheers!

Pretty sure 001 got his powers just from birth, like the mutants in X-Men, unless something else is revealed in the next episodes.

Many viewers of this ep 7 forget, the story of Eleven's revelation in the NINA project tank under Brenner & Owen's supervision are mere suppressed memories being retrieved. It isn't real-time (like the sensory deprivation of seasons past), but a memory retrieval apparatus. El finally recollected what actually went down on that genocidal day. The dual with 001 was a flashback elicited from the CCTV archive, played back to El in the tank. Everything was captured on tape. That's why scientists in white coat working on the NINA project saw El as a celebrity ("Madonna") with awe when she first walked in with Owen. Hence, we know El survives the dual with 001, so the suspense of these sequences isn't as high as episode 4 with Max for those who followed closely.

Maybe these episode has less suspens than the fourth, but it's the reveal that takes the win for me. Everything just falls into place so perfectly

@@Morinhetar Quite a few reaction channels (and viewers inc myself) suspected the orderly to be 001 before ep 7. It wasn't that big of a reveal for those more keen to details and experienced film watchers. Young Henry, however, was a bigger surprise due to intentional misdirection of the unreliable narrator in Victor when Nancy/Robin visited his cell. Ep 4 final scene was not only suspenseful, but was carefully written to be emotionally impactful. The final product was a team collaboration, and was masterful. S3e8 Hopper's heart-to-heart letter was close second in terms of tear-jerker.

Steve is a Barbarian in the end of E6 and beginning of E7, He was Raging, so his injuries were more temporarily ignored by adrenaline burst to fight for survival as my thought. (Along with D&D ideas. They made this scene so badass and D&D feeling than ever.) I'm also glad Eddie was involved in this battle scene, I was hoping all season he would get a cool shot to fight, especially to go along with his D&D love.

Its crazy i didnt predict it was vecna and it all makes sense since the begining when we see the kids mangled exacly how vecna kills and his blue eyes and everything

I think that El opend that one-time gate just to send 001 to the upside down but then it was closed forever just like when she sent that demogorgan in season 1 but in that case she was sent there too, and when she made contact with the demogorgan in november 6 1983, she opend a stable gate in the same day that Will goes missing, and that caused the 2 worlds to connect through hawkins,and somehow the upside down formed part of itself as hawkins at that date,and the left of the upside down is still a mess,or it copied our world idk lol.

Henri aka 001 was actually a naturally born Telepath/Telekinese. His powers started to emerge when they moved into the Creel house -but sadly he was sociopathic and killed his whole family. Brenner wanted to recreate him when he couldn't control him

If y'all think Steve would go first then you don't know him at all! lol.
