    I agree, though I find the accent a bit distracting. Not a deal killer but he sounds like a Kiwi to me. South Africans also pronounce their "e"'s like "i"'s the same as Kiwis so I find myself trying to work out the accent as much as trying to absorb the information being conveyed. If he ever says the word "fish" I'll be able to nail that down and then forget about it.

    I have my home music mixing studio acustically treated. But I'm a bit unsure about treating my tv room with a soundbar. As the soundbar supposedly uses reflexions on the walls/ceiling to create the surround effect, maybe adding treatment at wrong places would prevent the system from working properly. I might give it a try though, as I still have some extra acoustic foam. Thanks for raising the topic! Room acoustic configuration can be as important as the quality of the sound system.

    Let me know how it goes. I learned the mirror trick for sound reflection, but I don't know how that helps with the sound bar and top speaker.

    It sure is. I suppose the problem for most people is that they share their living room with the rest of the family so it still needs to look nice. It's a no brainer if you've got a dedicated movie room.

    I have a weird situation where the only place I can have my home theater is in my "man cave". What makes it weird is three walls are covered in indoor/outdoor carpeting over 5/8ths OSB (Oriented strand board. I live where hurricanes are a possibility and built this structure to withstand a lot of abuse), then over that are lots of shelves, mementos, brick-a-brac, thick double curtains on windows and doors, etc. Some of these things are dispersive, some are absorbent. Under the stuff on the walls is absorbent carpet over reflective hard surfaced wood. Between the interior hard surfaced wood walls and the exterior the gap is over insulated by a factor of 2. (I can almost heat this place with a lit match.) The ceiling is 3/4 inch plywood covered in fiber tiles. Which all creates a very challenging audio environment. I didn't build this for audio, I built it to survive extreme ambient conditions because there's a ton of expensive electronic and computer equipment located here. So I'm always looking for hints and pointers to how I can improve what I have to work with. This Archway Tech content provider gets right to the point, does a very good job of describing while also using graphics and imaging to get the point across and that's a real help. I can learn more *_that is relevant to me_* by watching several of this guys shorter videos than I can from watching long videos making tons of tweaky technical measurements after a 4 minute canned intro run. Thanks, keep up the good work and know there are people out here that appreciate what you do.

    Great info delivered clearly and succinctly as always.I have a question which someone may help me with. I have a TV that only has ARC not EARC I am looking at a purchasing a Samsung S60B 5.0 sound bar. My question is will I be able to achieve the Atmos effect of having the sound appear to come from the ceiling and behind people sitting in front of the TV with only ARC capability and having no other speakers than the soundbar?

    Hi and thanks for the information. Just got a 990q SB as my Yamaha receiver died and I haven't used wired surrounds forever as its too hard running cables. the SB option is so much more convenient. and the bar way more than grunty enough, even compared to the reciever and Jamo S606 setup I had. Question - I live in a tropical area and have 4 ceiling fans in the lounge room. 2 in front of and 2 behind the main seating area. Are the Atmos upward effects likely to be significantly affected if the fans are on? Cant say I've noticed anything but maybe my hearing isnt that tuned in. Thanks.

I'm getting dolby atmos in demo mode of fire stick but not able to get it in any netflix (have premium account) or amazon prime movies having atmos audio. can you please help me out with what's wrong. :)

  • @archwaytech

    @archwaytech

    If it’s easy enough to move then yeah I would try moving them higher and listen to the difference. If they’re fixed on the wall already then I wouldn’t bother too much. Having Atmos drivers on the rear speaker should give you good performance so long as you have flat ceilings.

    Make sure you plug in the blue ray player directly to the soundbar. Sdr blu rays have dts, and some Tvs don't pass the dts, so the sound bar won't decode the dts information.

    By the time you've finished you'll have transformed your living room into Darth Vader's meditation chamber. This is sage advice for a home cinema room, but a living room is about more than just the TV... for most people. Each to their own, I guess.

    My right wall is a huge open area...no wall fo 25 feet. And 15' cathedral ceiling so I have no acoustics. My cats would destroy your ideas and my pitbulls will eat the rest including the sub. So bar only for me, but cats climbing to the ceiling would be interesting to see.
