The Bible Doesn’t Say What He Thinks It Says

John Fugelsang attempts to show a contradiction between what the pro-life Christian believes (“life begins at conception”) and what he thinks the Bible teaches (“life begins at first breath”). There’s a problem, though. It does not say life begins at “first breath.” It says God breathed into Adam after forming him from dust, and he came to life. Genesis 2 is describing a special act involving a special couple. It’s not teaching when every human being comes to life.
There’s a second problem. The Bible clearly recognizes personal human life before first breath. The clear example is how Luke describes Jesus and John the Baptist before either took their first breath.
But, even if the Bible didn’t explicitly state when life begins, so what? The science of embryology is clear: human life begins at conception. And this is perfectly consistent with Scripture.

@firebyrd castle, first of all, have you read the bible? If not, you have no reason to claim that the bible is nonsense. Second, there are accounts in the bible of people, places and times that are accurate to the when and where the specific book claims to take place who actually existed such as king Nebuchadnezzar (mentioned in places such as Daniel 1:1). The last point I want to make is that the bible even talks about how it seems foolish to those who do not believe it (1 Corinthians 1:18-25 for example). Just a bit of red pen logic for you so that you have the right idea🙂

If you think plucking your eye out (literally) will stop you from sinning, I mean go ahead, it's your choice and everyone has free will. What matters most is whether your stopping your sin or not. @@phillipstroll7385 Jesus speaking at the sermon on the mount: "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than your whole body go into hell." - Matthew 5:27-30 ESV Jesus was famous for teaching in parables. In fact, most of his teachings were in that form. Therefore, it is safe to assume that Jesus does *not* command his followers to actually pluck out their eyes or cut off their hands because of their sins. This is not a controversial parable by any means, and no Christian with even the most bare bones theological training believes it to say anything other than what David said above. He got the theology perfectly correct. If you are in doubt, ask any pastor or priest. Regardless of denomination, they will tell you exactly the same thing. If you have issues with Christian teaching, then let's have that conversation. But if you're just looking to stir up trouble or confusion for their own sake, then I feel bad for you.

It actually does make sense from a biblical perspective. If God gave Adam the breath of life, this could only mean that God's spirit was contained within that breath and that He gave Adam a portion of His own spirit, inheriting from Him. In the original Hebrew, the word for "spirit" is the same word for "wind". So in this sense, it's very possible that the spirit is spiritually connected to the air - more specially, the oxygen in the air. Having said this, what happens when someone takes a breath? Oxygen enters into their lungs and into their bloodstream, to be carried throughout the body. In this way, an unborn child's first "breath" is from the breath of their mother, when the oxygen in her blood enters into the fetus.

But people come to scripture with their own ideas, and often with limited knowledge of what it says, and then cherry pick the verses to suit their own traditions and preferences. Sorry but your statement is incorrect. Millions of babies did not die due to God but due to sin. When mankind rebelled against God, the rebellion unleashed sin into every individual to come into the world with the exception of Jesus Christ. Not only did the rebellion unleash sin into each individual but it unleashed sin into the environment. Sin has had a devastating effect not only on the individual but the world we live it. Sin kills! Read Romans 8:19-22: 19For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.

Is there any reason to justify killing the baby? Have you ever read, watched, researched how they perform abortion? If you must know there are at least 3 ways: 1. Injecting a syringe through the mother’s abdomen, hopefully it hit directly at the baby’s torso or head then they pump the poison. 2. If the baby is still small they use suction. There’s no camera at the end of the suction so it could either decapitate the head or amputate limb by limb. 3. If the baby is rather big they use forceps, again blindly. So they just grab at whatever it is so again either they get the whole baby or amputate limb by limb or decapitate. Which one do you think is the most humane? What crime do you think has the baby committed to render such violent and gruesome death? Because he dared to cause such an inconvenience to the parents’ lives? Is it right for them to be given such a brutal death sentence when they are innocent, without a voice, vulnerable and defenceless? Remember that your mother has chosen and sacrificed a lot so that you can live and so that you can advocate life not death.

Well, I'm not sure if I like this argument, and I wouldn't use it against someone who knows their stuff. Here's why. If life begins once the unborn has blood, then that would mean life doesn't begin at conception because a zygote (the earliest stage in human development and follows immediately after conception) doesn't have a blood supply yet. So basically the pro-choice side could say, "according to your argument, all abortions are okay that happen before blood comes into the equation because life hasn't started yet." What's important to remember is that early trimester abortions make up a big chunk of the total number of abortions. So, instead of giving this argument, let's just stick to the plain facts: life begins at conception. Science tells us this, and the Bible realizes this (as the video explained).

  • @DookyButter

I thought about this too. I think you could still say that life begins at first breath. What is breath, after all? While we do recognize that breath is more a process of respiration, isn't respiration happening, even in the smallest of cells, on a molecular level? Respiration is only to process oxygen and expel carbon dioxide (in general). I'm not an expert by any means, but I'm betting there is a molecular process similar to respiration that just doesn't look like the typical physical respiration. So it really depends on how a person conceptually defines "breath." Lol, I can see why people hate philosophy...

One day we will be facing HIM who created you and me and the rest of the world. Whether you are the richest on earth who sleeps on the most comfortable bed and a vagabond who sleeps on cardboard. Both of these beds cannot be taken with them when they die. We are so ignorant today and we discussed the existence of God. The truth is we must believe by faith that He created us and he can do whatever He pleases to do with us- most of us will raise eyebrows on this one. But according to the scriptures But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6 And hath raised us together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: It says it’s Gods love and mercy towards us. Luke chapter 16:19-31 Jesus told us about the existence of lake of fire, on the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. This was written 2 thousand years ago where scientists were limited access to this concept of volcanic activities alums us. And now science provides us with volcanos around the world. One day whoever reads this comment you will remember this day that we should not have this kind of conversation but just have faith for the shall live by faith for the gift of God is everlasting life. It’s a simple word but almost non-existence to every human heart. As mentioned in Romans 3:23 for all short in the glory of God, in other words, none of us has faith that God only requires us so he can give us His promise. Lazarus in the parable last food was just a crumb from the rich man's table. But he had faith as Jesus mentioned in His parable. And God has given Him a grand welcome by welcoming Lazarus with Gods two angles. But the rich man was buried in the ground for he had all the richest in life and had a comfortable life when he was alive. And God has granted him the that type of richness and for he has chosen it. But Lazarus accepted his status in life on earth but remained to have faith in his heart to believe to the one and true God in his heart. God has waited for Lazarus time to come back home and the welcome was extremely extravagant by having two angles taken Lazarus to Abraham’s bosom. Gods peace be with you all.

Great video production 👏. Hard to believe you haven't been producing content for YEARS. I was more impressed at the editing than the content (content was great 👍). Half way through, I said... hmm, this is great work: sub!

your last comment is exactly what I was thinking. The awareness of John in the womb when Mary came to visit. He leapt for joy. If that’s not a direct description of awareness which of all the things that you can argue with someone about human traits that’s a pretty clear one.

A couple days ago I had a guy come up to me to recruit me into a Christian club and wanted to talk about God the Mother. He pulled out an NIV Bible to try to use a verse out of Genesis to establish God the Father and God the Mother as separate entities. I had to hurry on to class so I smiled, told him he had just traipsed into heresy, and walked off. He gave a startled laugh as he did -- I don't think he was expecting to get a serene rejection. Wish I had had the time to sit and think about the idea more fully.
