Progressive Christian Gets Jesus COMPLETELY Wrong!

In this video, Robertson makes an unusual claim: Jesus...was racist. And he uses Scripture to prove it. It really is amazing to me that someone can misread Jesus so badly. Rather than trying to get the meaning out of the text, Robertson reads his own uncharitable meaning into it.
Robertson misses the point completely. On his view, Jesus was a prejudiced, biased, bigoted sinner who needed to repent. But the text teaches just the opposite. Jesus countered the prejudices and bigoted attitudes of his day by responding the same way he always did to every Gentile who put his trust in him-with grace and mercy. Maybe Reverend Robertson’s Jesus is racist, but that is not the Jesus of history. That is not the Jesus of the New Testament. That is not the Jesus of reality.

Can you point to one example of Him committing a singular, solitary sin, that He Himself declared to be a sin? Not talking about breaking the rules of the old covenant here. Thanks Tim for this. Another way to take the 'dog' part is to notice. 1. The word used for dog is 'kunerion' (puppy or 'little dogs'), this is word is never used of Gentiles as 'dogs'. 2. The Lord is speaking metaphorically - 'the children' 'the table' 'the little dogs'. The picture is of a household, where 'children' (the privileged Jews - 'children of the kingdom') have first offer of the food on the table - i.e. the blessings of the kingdom, this was true. Jesus came first as a 'minister to the circumcision' (Romans 15), 'to the Jew first...' (Romans 1). The Gentiles were blessed through the Jews. So in this case, they were viewed as 'little dogs', around the children's feet, with less obvious privilege. 3. The woman realizes that she doesn't have any right to approach Jesus for a blessing on covenantal grounds, so she develops the analogy further - 'even the little dogs under the table eat of children's crumbs' - she understood that Jesus wasn't speaking about the unclean 'dogs' kept outside - but the little puppies that were allowed inside, and could pick up the scraps'. I don't believe that there was anything derogatory in this term in her mind. She simply is coming humbly, and submissively to the Saviour, and comes on his terms. She asks for a scrap of blessing. She comes trusting in His grace alone. This is a great foreshadowing of this present age when millions of gentiles (including me!), have received this same grace, by coming in faith in a humble way to the feet of Jesus, who draws out that faith by starting an analogy and allowing her to finish it. Roberts 'Jesus' would need a Saviour himself!

One other thing to consider: If Jesus had to repent (as this so-called reverend Robertson claims) it means that Jesus had committed a sin. If Jesus had sinned, then He no longer was qualified to be our Savior and the sinless sacrifice that would be necessary to pay for man's sin. In fact, Jesus would have needed a savior Himself, otherwise He would have been condemned to hell like the rest of us. Therefore if Jesus could not be our savior, then we would still be in our sins, we would still be condemned to hell, and we would be wasting our time believing in Jesus. If that is the case, then the Bible would be a lie, and we should just go out and live like hell, because that is where we'd end up. Fortunately, Jesus DID NOT sin and therefore DID NOT NEED TO REPENT. He died for us as the sinless sacrifice for all of us, for all sin for all time. Therefore the Bible, and the Gospels in particular, are not a lie. If we have repented, we are saved, and assured that we will be with Jesus in Heaven. Mr. Robinson fails to take his bad theology to its logical conclusion. He only wants to portray Jesus in a way that conforms to his blasphemous woke theology.

However, there is also pick and choose among evangelicals (conservatives and fundamentalists). 2) There is a general difference in how we view the bible between evangelicals and progressives (and it also differs a lot inside those groups). Let me take an example... there is a telephone book for a city with 300.000 citizens. One group claims that the telephone book IS perfect, and includes NO errors. The other group have concluded that there can be errors in it... some think they are only a few, some think there are dozens, and some talk about several hundreds of errors. * If I look up numbers, and call my friends, but do not att Brians phone number, because the telephone book says his number is 123. I might not be cherry picking "which" numbers I like and don´t... I simply don´t trust the data that his number is 123, as everyone else have longer numbers. Same comes to the bible... (let´s first forget the guy in the video)... my friends, some liberals, some progressives, do not read the bible and PICK (oh I like this verse = I take it), I dislike that one so I skip it... the conclusions they´ve made, is often through years of reflection and analysis... where some claims in the bible, can be like the number 123... it simply doesn´t fit. Brandon Robertson's videos reveal what is central. At the core of his "hermeneutic" is that which can be used to justify his beliefs about culture and homosexuality. You see it in a number of ways, including the frequent use of catchphrases (e.g. "speak truth to power") and where he stops reading verses or what context he skips over. It should be a grave reminder to the rest of us: be cautious when the entirety of how we see Jesus fits perfectly with OUR culture. We are sinful, fallen people, there should be things that a holy God says or does that make us uncomfortable. Our hermeneutic should seek first to properly grasp God, not tickle our ears or the ears of those who embrace our culture.

Mr. Robertson has not just stopped at homosexuality. He thinks that polyamory or open relationship are also moral for Christians. To be honest, kudos to him for being consistent with his hermaneutics. Some of the progressive Christians tend to shy away from that path. Erin Wathen, pastor of United Church of Christ herself is not convinced of polyamory but she notes that she sounds like those "old fashioned traditionalists". Jesus used a classical teaching method that was popular at this time and not very popular today. Plato used this too. To frame the teaching not as a monologue presentation, but to have a dialog where you provoke the student to say the right thing. Jesus basically was showing that extending salvation to the gentiles doesn't reduce the salvation of the chosen people. Salvation is not scarce or a competition.

I know it's kind of distorted to try to view the bible through our current society lenze, but let me continue. The law given by Moses would represent things in the "right" of politics. When Jesus allowed the disciples to eat in the cornfields on the sabbath, (not a sin).. that represents more about liberty (left). One last thing i shall mention. The "progress" of modern day democracies is not actually progress. Especially for example something like feminism which people view as one of the most progressive ideas. Feminism actually is a ideology that hates women and is trying to erase feminine qualities which is no surprise since the world hates God and is unwilling to submit to the order in which he has ordained.

Not striving for equality, or seeing/accepting that we are different. To simplify it, women should be paid more than men for the same job. I’m wondering if because Jesus knows our hearts and thoughts that if this wasn’t a personal revelation of who He is to this desperate mother. I do believe as Mike Winger suggests she was on her way to worship and possible pray to her God when becoming aware that Jesus was close. Then I imagine the conversation in her head going something like this as His nearness brought her closer. “Why would Jesus help me? Jews think we are dogs. But maybe even dogs even can eat the crumbs from the table? “ Then as Jesus hears her thoughts and sees her desperation, and reveals Himself by just repeating out loud what she had just thought in her head confirming to her that He is indeed God in human form. The only source of our hope and salvation. I hope that makes sense.

Something I was taught recently, in the Bible you can find passages that will justify anything you want, good or bad, and at the end of the day, what you preach about the Bible is a reflection of yourself more then it is a reflection of the Bible.

Just from what I've seen about "Pastor" Brandon, he's more concerned with propping himself up as better than Jesus than actually saving souls. He's going to regret that if he doesn't repent. Self-righteousness never ends well.

If Jesus had prejudices, then he sinned, and if he sinned he couldn’t die for our sins which means our faith and Christianity as a whole is null and void. So this “reverend” clearly didn’t think that through.

@Red Pen Logic Calling him "reverend" is sketchy at best. I saw this one about a month ago. It made me wonder if he thinks Jesus is God because if he does then he needs to realize then that He is the Creator and it just simply is not possible for him to be a racist.

@@steadfastneasy26 nope Yeashu was just a man pointing a finger to the truth. Instead of looking at what he was talking about christians look at the finger and think it's somthing special. Go do some homework. Christianty is based on sun god worship. Almost all of what paul says is based on the sun. Ilios is the greek word for sun. It's pronounced Jesus. The whole religon is also based on human sacrifice, and vicarious atonement. It's idol worship and blood based Magick. It has ritualistic cannibalism in the form of communication. To say jesus is god is to say that the sun is God.
