The BEST Way To Lift Your 1st Gen Tundra - Bilstein 6112s, Camburg UCA, Wheelers Add-A-Leaf 3 Pack

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Finally get to install the lift kit on my first generation Toyota Tundra!
I went with a 2-3 inch lift kit all the way around and retained my stock rake (not leveled). I really like how this truck rides, but doing this job by myself was a massive pita! This video breaks it down into an easy format for you to do it yourself and learn from my mistakes! I really like how my lifted 1st Gen Toyota Tundra double cab looks and rides now.

I found your vid late last year. I have an 04 Toyota Tundra 4X4 Access Cab. I bought it brand new back in March 2004. I have just finished doing essentially the same suspension rebuild that you have done. Bilstein 6112's, Camburg long travel upper control arms, new OEM lower control arms, bushings, ball joints. New bump stops. Same add a leaf kit with Bilstein 5120's in the back. New Method Bead grip 16/8" and 285 BFG's. It came out so nice!!! Also new Brute Force Fab bumpers, a 10,000 lb Smittybilt winch and a GFC camper shell. The new suspension works great, especially with the added bumper/winch weight. It seems more and more stuff is starting to be available for these older Tundras...

I'm going with JBA UCAs. For $520 for the pair which come with the ball joints it's really the best deal going and you can't beat the greasable zirks. Secondly I've read a lot of conflicting information about the 6112's and the final height they give vs advertised. Particularly with 4wd trucks it seems the lift is less for some reason (maybe added weight). So I've seen other guys say to use King (but they are $$$). My issue is I have a 2wd that I plan to convert to 4wd manual, yes, 5-speed manual with manual xfer case, so I'm trying to carefully plan out the suspension right now.

As far as the ride goes with the add a leaf, with no trailer on it, how does it ride? Ive always worried that it would ride too rough with out the trailer hooded up on it. Nice truck. Can't wait to buy one soon. Not to be a that guy. But you should invest in a pitman arm puller for this job. Whacking metal with a big hammer can fracture the component. Which can cause a failure down the road. That's paired with the added new tension and pressure created from the lift. Just a heads up. I've seen a pretty scary spindle failure that was blatantly caused by the classic BFH method.

I’ve replaced the upper ball joints on my 06 tundra without pulling it off the truck, it was horrible. But it wouldn’t have been any easier for me off the truck because of some reason my spindle is angled in such a way the ball joint press couldn’t sit properly straight like yours is. Took me all day to get one side done. Dreading doing the other side. I had to incorrectly use a puller and hope it didn’t snap.

Looking to do a similar setup on my 05 Double Cab Tundra. Did you end up getting any extended sway bar links or high angle CV boots?

I have done neither, I have had a lot of folks ask me about that. If I need to I'll let everyone know but for now all is good

Hi, what are the benefits of extended sway bar links?

The stock sway bar links work fine, and unless you wanna pull apart your cv's and add 930 boots, you can just use a hose clamp or tighter CV boot clamp to keep the inners from leaking 👍

Tad bit rusty truck here. The only answer for the rear struts is a small cut off wheel and many cuts haha.

It's kind of hit or miss, but lots of t100 and tacoma parts will bolt in or be converted easily. Check the internet forums before you start buying stuff though 👍

You keep saying you don't need the overload spring but if you ditched it you would lose about an inch of lift. It's a thick piece of metal acts like a lift block.

I hope hes checking for that infamous grease splatter! But I swear the clamps on some of the remanufactured CV axles are better sealing than the factory boot clamps! Sadly the CV cage is usually weaker though 🙁

I just installed 18 inch wheels and tires from 4Runner and this lift up all truck , any higher than this and my bed would be too high to load and unload , l don't see point in installing expensive lift
