The BEST Vegan Mozzarella I've Ever Made (Miyoko Schinner's recipe)
Ойын-сауық
Miyoko Schinner's famous vegan mozzarella recipe was far too good to pass up. I've been a big fan for a long time now and my curiosity got the best of me. I was so surprised when most of you said you hadn't heard the Miyoko's scandal that took place, I figured i'd fill you all in and let you come to your own conclusions.

Thanks for supporting Miyoko and her KZread channel. Women founders are consistently treated poorly and often forced out of their own companies. 💚🌱
If you really want to take this recipe to the next level Miyoko actually recommends fermenting the cashew/yogurt mixture overnight. It gives the mozz that tangy bite and is the go to version for me! I’ve been making it for years and it’s hands down the best! It’s super hands off and she has that recipe online 🙏🏻

@@MerleONeal For sure! I still make the non fermented version all the time and it’s such a quick and simple process, it’s a staple for sure. The fermented version is literally the same recipe but before adding the tapioca starch/flour you leave the cashew/yogurt mixture in a lightly covered container overnight outside of the fridge. Then you just prepare the agar gar and add the tapioca to the fermented mix and cook it exactly like you did in the video. It really takes this already amazing recipe up a notch 🙏🏻 Thanks for all the amazing vegan taste tests and recipes Merle, love what you do ❤️

I'm so glad that she's owning her recipes by posting them on KZread. I have made her butter recipe for years (fantastic and easy). Thank you Merle for supporting her with this video. 👏

I’ve been following this story. I was shocked. I haven’t purchased any of the cheeses since. I love that funky pub cheese Roadhouse Cheddar spread. Specifically I dip Snack Factory pretzel thins in it. The liquid mozzarella pizza cheese was also surprisingly good.

I've made this cheese soooo many times and it never disappoints, it tastes so much like the real mozzarella!!! Loved the video❤
I love how you cover the controversy, we need more ppl to understand how shitty this was and Miyoko is a pure genius!
I live near Guadalajara Mx and went to both Costcos. I was shocked to see boxes of Miyoko’s Butter for sale. While I can source most vegan items here, butter has not been good so I just started making my own. When I saw Miyoko’s I bought a few. I hope they keep stocking it. It’s delicious. I’m heading to her YT channel. Thanks for explaining what happened.
At long last: experimental cooking and a story! I’ve missed these kinds of “cooking sessions, combined with storytelling,” ever since you told us the story of Elizabeth Holmes; you really need to get back to doing this more often.
Heyyy Merle! I absolutely LOVE your videos!! I have a suggestion for you window/curtain problem - I think getting opaque blinds would be a great fix to cutting all the exposure coming from the sun, while maintaining the bright look. You can then match your camera setting to the window and then add you main (Key light), if you'd like a softer light on you, try getting a bigger soft box or adding more diffusion to your key. I hope this help! :)
Yes! Love a new podcast recommendation!!!!

Yeah - unfortunately this is really common. When founders bring in new investors and board members, they give up some of their voting power and % of the company. Which, when you choose to do that, can lead to you getting pushed out. It’s a risk all entrepreneurs take when they choose to accelerate the growth of their business.
@BikersBitchHD

@@tylerkihm8131 That does not make it right. Nor does it excuse their hostile takeover or our acceptance as as society to justify it as okay. I for one choose to take the higher ground and NOT purchase their products. Which BTW They are changing while still using her name. She has a channel of her own with cookbooks online. I choose to support her, not them. And I tell EVERYONE I can that the should do the same. If we go along with it by purchasing their products after how they unethically acquired the business. Whether it's legal or not. This is how animal agriculture eventually became a conglomerate, which we as a society allowed and condoned because we continued and still continue to support products that exploit people as well as animals. Just my humble opinion based on watching the industries for over 60 years. Supporting businesses lie this are what ultimately creates what we see now in the animal agriculture industry, this is how it begins. Don't support it. Or we will see the same issues in the Vegan and Plant Based products in the years to come.

Because she's a chef, a creative, a visionary and an entrepreneur... and she continues to do that work, and has multiple projects outside of her cheese company. Someone else has to run the business operations or it will close. Her cheese company will survive, she'll stay on the board, and now she has the freedom to invest in, and launch new companies in the vegan community. This is actually very common...

I LOVE MOZZARELLA CHEESE!!! MMMMMMMMMM...... Love this video, and I did not know about the company's situation... Thanks Merle! 👍
I've always been impressed by the Miyoko products. They've always been a little on the expensive side, but there was always room in the budget for at least the cream cheese, which my former roommate and I agreed was to be used sparingly. Now? Not so much. EVERYTHING is so expensive now and I have to drive to the other side of town if I want to buy a Miyoko product.
Made this recipe on a spring break trip a few years ago and put it into a baked ziti. Best food of the week.
Yes!! I was going to comment in one or your past ranking videos that I would LOVE a yogurt ranking!!! Or cream cheese!!!
What an amazing singing voice you have, Merle! Plus, making up songs to narrate your life is just a fun and creative thing that awesome people do (I'm not biased). But I'll bet no one shrinks away in pain when _you_ do it. 😅 People, don't forget to buy copies of Miyoko's vegan cheese cookbooks to support her (and/or encourage your local library to get copies to loan).
I didn’t know about this either. I make a fermented vegan butter inspired by her recipe. Thank you for letting us know all of this, I will not be purchasing their products for Christmas (the only time I purchased them)
3 things… 1)the cheese looks amazing and sounds yum! 2)your dress is stunning 3)I love the fact you make up songs in the kitchen about stuff like using a spoon… yeah, me too. I literally made up some random song today while I was doing the dishes about using the right scrubbing brush… it keeps me entertained I guess? But ‘use a spoon’ should definitely be one of the top hits on the made up kitchen songs list….
Where you put your money is what you support 🥴 I’ll be following her and making her recipes, but no longer buying Miyoko’s Creamery. I don’t feel right doing so. There are plenty of other vegan companies and if she ever comes out with new products, I will definitely one of the first to support her. She deserves the world.
I love you for this ❤

YAAAAAAAAAAS NEW MERLE VIDEO
When a oompany becomes a corperation and sells their shares and another holder owns a majority of the shares it is very common for them to buy out the original founder. It doesn't have to be controversial or a firing as we know it in a standard job equation, it's just part of what often happens. That's the reality when you sell shares within your company: you risk being sold out especially if you aren't a majority shareholder.

I find that there's just so many vegan brands out there where I love one company's sour cream but hate their cream cheese, or love another company's vegan cheese shreds but hate everything else they make. I always have Kite Hill, Tofutti, Wayfarer, Miyoko's, and two or three other brands in my fridge because it takes all of them for me to have a complete plant-based dairy lineup on hand.
Even in a self loathing way 😂❤
Thank you for doing this. Looks like 2 T's of tapioca and 2 T's agar, in possibly a cup of water, but it boils down anyway.
This is why I would never take a company I founded public. Too many people get ousted from their own companies against their will. For now, I removed Miyoko’s products from my upcoming grocery order on Instacart, and the one I have made to order for my mother, and I won’t be buying any more of their products until I dig more into this. I like Miyoko, I have her Vegan Meats cookbook and really love it, and until I see irrefutable proof that she’s guilty of what they claim, I have no reason to stop supporting her individually.

in the tech industry, it's common for the founding CEO to step aside as the business grows. Few technical CEO are able to transition to a sales management role once the company grows beyond a certain point. That much is true, but it's important to ask "why does a business have to scale beyond a small/medium size?" If you take VC money, chances are they will force the founders out.
Hm? I knew she had parted ways with them and that there was shadiness on their side but I didn't know they'd been abusive to her.
