@@danielscrittersandcycles2558 God, I seriously considered getting a Blackbird! Apparently they are electric smooth, and almost as fast as a Hayabusa. Unfortunately for me, I just could not get past the 1980's single headlight styling. I am obsessed with the dual headlight design front ends. I'm actually considering still getting a Honda Blackbird because the Blackbird is a perfect motorcycle, overall, despite the slightly old looking front end. After watching this video, I now realize that we should all be more mindful of "value" rather than just how a headlight looks?

Once again Ryan has proven that he has the best motorcycle channel on earth! After riding for 30+ years, 15 of which were as a motor officer, I can state unequivocally that my 2006 Yamaha 650 V-Star Classic is my all time favorite. It is so much like an HD Road King, but 250 lbs lighter and with a subtle degree of refinement that outclasses the HDs at a fraction of the cost. Why anyone is willing to pay the ridiculous cost of new bikes is unfathomable to me when you can get great used bikes while paying so much less. 🏍

I can remember 20 years ago dealerships were absolutely packed to the gills with V-Starts, VTXs, Boulevards etc. I would see all these 50+ year old dudes riding them that hadn't ridden since the 70s teetering away from the parking lot. I thought that eventually those thousands upon thousands of bikes would eventually hit the used market with no miles on them and now here we are those guys are 70s and can barely give these bikes away. I picked up one of the baby cruisers for $500 and tool around with my kid on it in the neighborhood it's actually quite fun.

Sure a harley has buttloads of torque but it's also +200 pounds heavier. If you like harleys for their looks and sound, then that's a whole another story and i can't disagree with you.

@@xXxLolerTypxXx You can pick up any bike - not just alone, but one handed. The trick is to pick it up by the handle bar - not by trying to grab the seat or the frame. This gives a ton more leverage. A lesson that stood me in good stead when I live in Hawaii at the end or a coral sand road. You haven't met slick until you've ridden in corral mud. Took me many trip down that road before I stopped dumping my bike 3 or 4 tomes just getting home. It didn't do any damage - it just slowly went sideways at 2 mph until it was on its side in the soft sticky mud. And that mud would cake up on the fenders until the front wheel turned into a ski that I was just pushing through the muck Forget washing it off with a hose - it took 20 minutes with a big screwdriver to gouge enough of the coral concrete out that I could hose out the rest.

I worked at a Yamaha dealer and there was a recall on the Roadstar and the 1700 . I replaced some washers and circllips on the 2nd gear. To do this I had to teardown by splitting the cases. first one took 15 hours I think .Got it down to 9 hours, I think the warranty flat rate was 11 hours. Anyway I did about 15 of them and I fell in love with the Roaadstar. So well built all metal no plastic, nice to work on and the TORQUE! ,stunp puller, Awesome bike and I never went for cruisers you know ,But I think I need one now. I see them going for 4 to 5 grand . Out performs a Harley by miles. WE had a souped up HD on the dyno and it only made 65 hp 1600cc shotguns carb kit and power module . Go with the Roadstar. Just try it.

Kind of morbid, but that's how we got our 95 GL1500, and my wife's PC800. The guy who owned both, that we used to ride with, was pushing 90, and fighting stage 4 lung cancer. He had his daughter call us to come visit, and told us we could have both for $1,500. Both were one owner bikes, both maintained by him, and his son in law. Son in law got the Fatboy and Ultra, daughter got his Bonneville, and her mom's Commando. Honestly, I know Paul's in a better place, and not hurting, but I d rather have him on the road with us, than the bikes. I think of him, every time I throw a leg over that wing, or that Pacific Coast, and never know if I want to laugh, cry, or smile. We weren't blood, but we are family. Miss ya brother.

@@T.Q. May they indeed rest in peace! -I have to face the fact that my riding days are over(but not life by any means)I perhaps could struggle on to ride, but it would be a very bad idea, as my left foot turns out badly, making shifting a bike very iffy at best, and now my upper neck and skull connection is fused, making looking around and back impossible pretty much, after recovering from the surgery, I even had to take my driver's road test over again(at 68)-passed it wearing a Miami Collar, which I no longer need). My new -used_ "bike" is a C4 Corvette convertible, the same in the breeze feeling as a bike(well the Goldwing I learned to ride on anyway-or any touring machine) -very nice ones available very reasonably, no danger of falling over, very comfortable, and quite sporty, better sound system than my old wing, and when rain threatens -just pull over and pull the top up if it is also warm and humid-hit the air. I will admit however to the occasional twinge when I hear a group of bikes going past on the road, but it passes quickly, when out far from home with the 'Vette, and the weather turns cold and wet, I must admit to a smug grin, as I turn the heat up a notch and settle contentedly into my seat-the foul weather on a bike I don't miss overmuch.-(I often put 20 thousand miles or more a year on a bike, here in New England that's a reasonable bit) so if life suggests that perhaps 2 wheels are no longer the way to go, there are alternatives, you need not give up completely. Age can be a bother but not the end of it all !. It's alarming -the number of people I rode with, and others I knew who rode that are no longer with us-the number is growing to depressing levels but that is indeed life, at least I'm still here to complain(a privilege I guess..) sometime this week I expect to attend the farewell service for someone I met at work when I was in the last year of high school, who helped get me into riding, who introduced me to my wife who at the time was riding a CB 900, and with whom I rode many, many miles-A great guy, gone at a young 82, killed on his bike by an idiot in a cage, ironically he was also a motorcycle safety instructor, as well as an EMT, if there is a consolation, he went out doing what he loved, My wife likes to often do her own vehicle thing, so we obtained for her/us a super nice C4 coupe,(they all have a Targa top, so become drop-tops as well) to give her her own ride to shows, etc. It is also perfect for when we take the pups along, which they absolutely love, our Pomeranian would, anytime the convertible was backed out of the garage plant himself firmly next to the driver's door-that thing was going nowhere without him, he had to ride in the wife's lap, which was all the better in his opinion. Well, it would seem I have rambled on too long as it is.....

The regular maintenance as stated in the Kawasaki Ninja 300 "book". By the way my comparison price is 4.000€, I didnt buy it brand new back then but with 6k km on it. You'd think that it's cheaper than bigger bikes when it comes to maintenance but at the end, still feels just as expensive. Maybe tires are a little less expensive as they don't wear out as fast. And I don't want to dishonor the Ninja 300, it is truly an amazing bike and I don't regret paying for the maintenance at Kawasaki dealership. If you do maintenance on your own, it would be cheaper yeah :) Just today again I'm getting rid of about 350€ for getting the valves adjusted and a new set of tires mounted. And valve adjustment normally is more expensive but the bike had the fairings to be removed anyway due to an accident which the opponent's insurance is paying fully (I had no liability for the accident). It's insane how much it costs, my bike fell only to the side at ~15kmh and they had to pay 2k€ just for repairing.

two things: 1. dont forget the naked goldwings, the bikes from the early 80s with 4 cylinder boxer engines without the fairings and passenger seats. They were the basis of the 'Valkyrie' version of the bike. There is one year where it peaked (83 or 84) with solid cast aluminum wheels (tubeless tires), better alternators that fixed the issues from the 70s GW, and it was the last chance to buy a naked GW before they morphed into 2 wheel Honda cars. 2. Yahama Vstar bikes were THE most reliable bikes on the market while they were in production. The air cooled shaft drive (650, 1100) and the water cooled V4 shaft drive base model "Royal Star" are 100,000 mile bikes for people who want to ride. The Royal Star base model was the same bike platform as their Venture touring bike, and the insane Vmax. Its pretty much Yamaha's equal to the Gold Wing. They only sold the Royal Star as a base model for a few years in the late 1990s to early 2000s. Those 3 vstar bikes have carbs, which are more reliable than FI as long as you keep your fuel stabilized over the winter, and the Royal Star V4 1300 has an external oil filter that you can buy at Walmart, with an 8,000 mile oil and filter change recommended service interval. As long as you use the correct 60% moly lube for the drive shaft splines, you will never have to give it a thought. As of today I can still find all three of these bikes, with less than 10,000 miles on craigslist for around $3k, with good tires, battery, running and ready to ride.

I've had a lot of bikes, currently only have an r6 for track day use. I love these kind of videos because the funny thing about motorcycling.... stat sheets and looks sometimes dont matter! You can fall in love with bikes that you shouldn't. In my case, it was a versys 650 that just did everything and felt like I was one with. Best Bike channel on youtube by far!

Love the vid! Ryan, you rock! I was VERY happy to see my Star cruiser get a shout out. I bought / stole my Raider a little over a year ago and it has been the best investment that I have every made in 61 years of life. I get more smiles per hour than I would have ever thought possible. Through this bike, I discovered a pool of youth that I didn't know that I still had.

I hear ya dude! I've ridden constantly since I was 8 years old...never NOT had a bike in 43+ years...rode Harley's a majority of my life after starting out on dirt bikes, but realized I was riding my land-barge Harley's less and less each year, as I approached 50...then I saw a Ducati Multistrada staring me in the face at the local bike shop...instant, striking love. I now ride every possible chance I get...29 degrees of cold is my cutoff for commuting to work (45 minute ride)...but I have, as you said, found a fountain of youth I didn't know was there until I found the right bike for me. I rediscovered my love of riding and am riding like I used to in my 20's and 30's.

I want one to build up like my '03 SV650. Just have to switch out the entire tail, get rid of minor plastic garbage around the frame, throw away the stock can and then decide whether I want to keep the headlight or switch it for a standard 7" unit :D I'm just surprised how many people praise the new SV when it's literally the same frame, swingarm and fork with smaller/lamer bodywork thrown on...

Must agree with all the comments: 1. F9 is such a pleasure to watch... Aneesh, you're a king! 2. Picking your fav among Ryan's one-liners of the day and posting it in the comments section is the new... black. Yeah I know that didn't work, I'm not Ryan. 3. Tech savvy wisdom is awesome, especially for the more ham-fisted among us. 4. Week after week, you guys make me want to go out and buy another bike... and I haven't even bought the first one (got my sights set on the latest trend - you guessed it, a tracker)...
