Why the Yamaha Niken Makes Sense - Motorcycle Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Two’s company, three’s a crowd. Or is it? Yamaha’s Niken tries to blend motorcycling fun with three-wheeled stability, all while looking like a show bike for a whey powder brand. We try to make sense of this newfangled third dimension of motorcycling. [Details below]

Just brushing 30 and had my Niken for 2 years. Love the thing and share the same sentiments as yourself. I live in Scotland, where the roads are a bikers dream, however the conditions often aren't. Considering it's a touring bike, it's pretty much flickable and fun to ride, and the engine is plenty enough. It's not supposed to be a bike for old people. I went for the Niken precisely for this reason. I can not think of a better bike for use in all conditions where one actually wants to enjoy the ride and make progress. As Ryan F9 puts it, the limits are much closer in the real world and attacking a corner is one of the greatest pleasures of riding. I use the bike for pleasure as much as utility and the Niken smashes it.

Honestly, I like the idea, my area has been chip sealing roads like crazy, and there's a lot of loose pea gravel/aggregate left on the roads that can easily catch you out at 45 mph. But I won't spend 20K on the Niken, at that point I may as well go to Can Am and get the Spyder RT for another 5K+/-.

Not to be that guy... but when making a film about a bike where the gimmick is two wheels in the front, isn't like the first or maybe the second thought to pretty much everyone to have the camera go between those wheels? Seems more obvious than genius, it's nicely executed though.

The most motorised action on three wheels I've had was on a cycle, it was a cargo e-trike. It didn't have any suspension other than the tilting subframe in the front. No shock absorbers, no springs. The ride was smooth as silk, you can drive up curbs while hauling a 100 kilo load on a 25 kilo bike and always be in control. Small bumps are vanishing. But the frame lockout in a tight curve is a sensation that you really can't be ready for on the first run.
