My parents were from the south. My daddy liked salt pork in his greens. We grew up on mustard greens cooked with lots of salt pork, some extra crisco lard, jalapeños. Sometimes mama would fix collards but always with salt pork. She always tore out that tough stem. Now I mostly cook collards - they're easier to wash and prepare. But I use smoked Turkey butt or wings (no salt pork), chopped onion and jalapeños. I never did use ham hocks.
@erikablack6761
Жыл бұрын
Str8up!?? No ham hocks do you not eat pork?? My fam from the south we used mustard turnip and collard 3bags of each salt pork bacon and ham hocks + jalapeno with knife holes in it and that was the ONLY way 2 go 😅 and they slapped!!! 🤤

I think the salt pork aka Strickland makes the best collard greens, , brand name Hormel, difficult to find lately, but I will try the smoked turkey necks. Yesterday I had greens made with old fashion hocks, only thing with ham hocks its a hit or miss, sometimes the hocks have lots of flavor, sometimes not.When.I used Strickalin, It was guaranteed. 😊

However anyone like their greens cooked in their kitchen, is indeed the right way. His greens look great minus the sugar. If someone ever go in my pot and put sugar in my greens, there will surely be some furniture moving. 😂
I made this last night with neck bones but turned out amazing! Very easy to follow the recipe! Thank you so much for this quick recipe.
That boy said a PAINCH of sugar 😂💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
That’s exactly how my grandma made hers and it make mine ❤

I love it, a pinch of melanated sugar. 💯 My family always cut stems off then cube them. You just cut stems down ¼' cubes.

Oh yes!!! Those are some good greens.♥️♥️💖💯💖♥️💖♥️♥️💖🌟⭐🪄
Thank you. I was just praying about how to make greens, and here you are. I’ll try them, as our church meets outside each Sunday by the lake in Wisconsin. We have a Zpot Blessing meal after each service. Praying the Greens turn out well! GOD BLESS you and yours

This man is fine AND he can cook?!?! Lord, please send me a man who is fine and a chef in the kitchen. 😩

Its amazing how just watching food can stir up a memory and put that flavor in your mouth.
As a Korean makin broth out of turkey neck is cool, makin broths is a core ingredients but we dont think about makin broth out of chicken necks since we can put the whole chicken in
You forgot to talk about how you have to wash them in a sink like clothes like 4-6 times. I still have flash backs

He hit on it during the cider rinse... its eZr to wash after cutting, but it's safer/healthier to soak/wash 1st cause ur embedding dirt/germs/pesticides in the each cut 🔪...
Brutha Mannn you right on time with this recipe for Sunday dinner (watching this Sunday February 26, 2023)!!
