Bloody awesome dude. Cant wait to order one. :) glad you got you’re hands on one. Im still gonna attempt a PS2M2 at some point but this makes it so much easier for the sd mod. Well done Arthimus, dude even pointed me in the direction of how to make one for the dream cast.

I’ve done some dabbling with dc ide. Issue you there is you have to put it in slave mode somehow

@@ModzvilleUSA yeah that’s the problem. I was hoping it would be something along the lines of grounding a particular pin. Im guessing that’s not the case though :( Im assuming the only way would to create your own pata to sata adapter to make it smaller and go from there. Especially if you change the psu inside of it too. It does open up some more space.

Why isn't there a storage mod that connects straight to the DVD connectors on the board like they do for the game cube?

I've wondered the same thing. Are there too many motherboard revisions to make it feasible? An ODE sounds like the simplest method.

ODE requires an FPGA or SOC and on the PS2 where IDE just works, why bother. FlippyDrive might change the game with cheap RP2040/ESP32 based ODE, the developer is shipping soon.

The problem is that for both the PS1 and PS2, all of the CD/DVD controller and decoding logic is on the motherboard and the optical drive is just a dumb analog device. For both the GameCube and Dreamcast, that logic was contained on a daughterboard attached to the optical drive, which communicates with the motherboard over a fairly simple digital bus. It's relatively easy to build an ODE for those consoles that plugs into that bus. A plug-in ODE for PS2 on the other hand would have to accurately emulate the low-level undecoded signals coming from a CD/DVD drive, and the technology is simply not there yet to pull that off.

Thoughts on SD card longevity for this use? This seems like it would be a significant amount of read/write during game play.

I love these type of mods definitely my favorite I just wish someone would make a kit for M2PS2 and sell it so that way you wouldn’t have to go through the process of PCBWay or JLC😢

iFlash also has sata boards. I wonder if it would be possible to use one of those for an m.2 drive. From the way this kit works, it looks like if that was possible it would be easier than the m2ps2 build.

Got an alert for these today, so I snagged 2. I already have the iFlash board on hand. Bought it a couple years ago and completely forgot about it because I'm dumb. How's that ghost case? I have one but never got around to swapping it.

When will someone make a PS2 ODE that replaces the laser and can play PS1 games?

Hi @ModzvilleUSA What's your purple ps2 slim exact model? I want to install both retrogem and this IFlash2PS2 Flex Kit with IFLASH-Solo. But by looking at both retrogem and IFlash2PS2 Flex Kit compatibility list they seem contradictory to me, because retrogem support SCPH-7000X and IFlash2PS2 suggests to use SCPH-700XX which is in the range but recommend using a SCPH-70012 which is not a SCPH-7000X. How do I know which one to use? I thought about a SCPH-70001 but in the IFlash2PS2 website they say that it is very likely that this will not work and this is one of the models that come with the IDE support. Thanks in advance.

All 70000 models have ide support there are just two different version v12 and v13

Same dude. The circuitry isn't there unfortunately. Maybe it's possible if you tap into one of the BGA chips but that'd end up being a pretty intense mod.

The reason that no slim after 700XX can do IDE is because they replaced the original IOP with the Deckard chip which does not even have an IDE controller in it. The early slims still used the same IOP from the fat PS2, which is why they still have IDE traces that can be tapped into.

Why aren't you using Grimdoomer's OPL with an EXFAT formatted SD card?

I have that on my 8tb. Artwork was really slow on it last I checked. For anything 2tb and under I still prefer vanilla. It’s more tedious to set up but it’s more snappy and stable in my experience

Yeah, that's kind of the whole point of using an iFlash adapter. It's been tested and confirmed working with microSD cards up to 1 TB.

​@@Astfgl watching your great video and one thing If it's not verified, after inserting a game that's 128GB or more It's an OPL move If the drive formatting method is TOXIC OS in WinHIIP, it is impossible to insert games over 128GB I'm thinking about this part, too

7000x are the only models that have the vestigial IDE connector pins on the motherboard and the required controller chips to run a hard drive. It's basically a shrunken-down 5000x motherboard, the two are very similar. From the 7500x onward, IDE support was removed entirely so there is simply no way a mod like this could work on later Slim PS2's.

I have an idea for you to try out. Take this slim. Replace the bios chip with an Scph-5000 model. Then install Free HDBoot on the microsd. That way you don’t need a mod chip or memory card to load the exploit. It should work I believe.

Oh I’m aware of that. I just know these slims are essentially the Phat Schp-5000 series in a smaller form. I thought it be need seeing FreeHD boot off of it without FMCB or a mod chip
