Thank you for mentioning why you use leaded solder! I've heard some youtubers say they only use lead-free on the PS2 and I tried hunting around on the internet with no answers 😅 I'm just getting into soldering and modding PS2's and your videos are super helpful and inspiring to me! Stay awesome!🥳

I'll never understand the people who say not to use leaded solder. It's like they never took basic chemistry and just go, "Lead is bad mmmkay. Don't use it." Excellent work man!

This install was pretty challenging but managed do it. @20:25 I hope he does a revision on this flex by making that longer, it was a pain in the ass to line it up but easy to solder.

Interesting. It connects to those resistor arrays. I have a PS2 slim that seems to play blind (iirc). Maybe no sound. I was thinking of trying a gem install to bypass those resistor arrays... butttt yep. Wont work. If I have a bad one, ill have to jump / replace it.

I’ve done it but without the flex conroller + it’s a v10 version , also the screen is not booting normally to ps2 osd i dunno what’s going on? Any help?

Why would you connect this to the Retrotink 5x, even temporarily? That completely defeats the point of the RetroGEM

Bro what temp did you use? Something is wrong because when i solder stuff like that I never get that much bridging. Looks like your temp is too low. Maybe preheat the entire area with a hot air station at 200c or something next time.

Apparently the flex cables are very heat sensitive and they're easy to destroy if it's too hot.

When dealing with flex cables, my rule of thumb is go as low as you can. I was at 310c which is already kind of spicy for some flex cables. If you go too high those pads will come off like butter.

25:00 I think you should use like 5x that amount of flux it will bridge less and the components will come off wayyyyyy easier. Try it next time you're in a similar situation!
