    Amazing idea with the grilled red onions! I am trying that this weekend without fail! If I may offer a tip....When they come off the grill, put them on the board with the colder side down. Let it rest 2-4 minutes so both sides of the bread stay crispy. Putting the hot side of the bread on the cutting board creates steam, softening all the hard work!

Thanks Sam!

    i've been making this for years with white bread american cheese and yellow grilled onions and butter i got it from a sandwich shop in chicago that made all kinds of hot sandwiches using french bread i also put a little chinese broccoli on it when i have it'' but no mustard or mayo. but i sometime use turkey and bacon and grilled onions and this one with provolone cheese'' you must try it with the bacon on both, and use more cheese'' my family loves them they all make them they are just delish'' oh i use 3 slices of bread'' and my sandwich press machine .

    Pretty good take on the basic ham and cheese sandwich. Love the caramelized onions treatment. I’ve recently discovered your videos and am hooked! I’ve been searching for a great video for the classic monte cristo and have yet to find one. Would you please consider doing a Sam’s special treatment of a monte cristo sandwhich? Thanks tons, keep inspiring us to cook more!

  • @The_Timinator

    @The_Timinator

    Жыл бұрын

    There's THOUSANDS of Monte Cristo recipes on KZread, NONE of them are like the Original which was invented at Disneyland in the late 60's, they all have the 4 main ingredients, Bread, Ham, Turkey and Cheese, but the original was assembled then dunked in an Egg, Milk and little Flour to make a thin batter like a Crepe with a lot of Nutmeg, then the whole sandwich was Deep Fried. My Aunt was Head Chef at the Blue Bayou Restaurant in the 70's (the one that was inside the Pirates of the Caribbean Ride) I grew up 10 miles from Disneyland. When the Sandwich was plated they took it off a special holder used to dunk into the batter and then into the deep fryer that holder had spikes or spears that punched into the sandwich and kept the sandwich from falling apart, but it left 2 holes in the Sandwich so they cut the Sandwich diagonally and stuck those tooth picks with the plastic fringe into the holes for presentation. So depending on what version of Monte Cristo you've had, there's only 4 ingredients, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out how to make the one you liked.

    Sam I made this and it was so good and easy to make as promised. I mixed dijon grain mustard with wasabi paste for the horseradish taste. I made it a second time with the filling as follows cheese, crispy cooked bacon, honey ham slices, caramelized onions, crispy bacon, 1 finely sliced habanero spread over the top layer of bacon, cheese on top then closed it up and grilled it....btw when the onions were ready, I mixed 1 teaspoon of premium Jarrah Honey into them.........freaking awesome.

    Use Mayo instead of butter needs more ham kind of stingy. I also make it with tomato instead of onions. And I put the condiments on then put them on the griddle top with cheese and the start building the sandwich with the ham and onion flip the top on turn it over and check the underside. And if that ready onto the plate it goes.
