The BEST Greek Moussaka You'll EVER Make!

Greek Moussaka is comfort food at its very best. Similar to Italian lasagna but lightly fried eggplant and potatoes replace the pasta. And the beef sauce is savory with a touch of cinnamon sweetness and topped with a luxurious thick bechamel sauce. Heavenly!

Moussaka Ingredients:
For the Meat Sauce
2 tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 medium carrots, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 lbs lean ground beef
1 cup red wine
1/4 cup tomato paste
1 28 oz. can whole tomatoes, with juice
1 beef bouillon cube
2 bay leaves
1 cinnamon stick
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp ground cloves
2 tsp Kosher salt
1 tsp black pepper
For the Bechamel Sauce:
8 tbsp unsalted butter, 1 stick
1 cup all-purpose flour
4½ cups whole milk
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp Kosher salt
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 egg yolks
For the Moussaka
2 cups vegetable oil
2 large eggplants, sliced
2 russet potatoes, sliced
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Love the idea of pre-frying thin slices of potatoes for this dish. Most of all though, you guys have the most entertaining cooking show on KZread IMO! 👍

Wow, yours looks so nice, mine is a mess! I make a big tray. When I make it I use 2 kg eggplant, 2 kg beef mince, salt, black pepper, oregano & a teaspoon of sugar to offset the bitterness of the tomato. Also use 2 bottles of passatta. I firstly soak the sliced eggplant in water for 30 minutes & then fry them on the hotplate on the BBQ. Make the sauce & then the bechamel sauce with butter, flour, 1.5 litres of milk & a big wedge of grated kefalograveira. We don't like using wine, cinnamon or nutmeg. Just lots of oregano for flavour. I'm surprised you didn't use oregano in a Greek dish....shame on you!! 😁
