The Best G-Shock Metal Watch Under $150 For A Smaller Wrist: GMS5600-1

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In 2018 the G-Shock Metal made history and became a massive hit. So why has one of their latest models-a noteworthy, ultra-compact version-been largely ignored?
Today I reignite my love for the G-Shock Metal square watch with a review of the smallest G-Shock to date. The GMS5600-1 is only 38mm and at first glance it may not seem revolutionary, but it's actually a massive game-changer for Casio, and a glimpse into the future of the brand.
That said, why has this watch been overlooked by the watch enthusiast world and the watch media? What are its positives and negatives? How does it compare to my full-sized DW500-E, and more conventional watches like my 40mm Tudor Submariner 79190, or even a 36mm Rolex Datejust 16233?
To fully understand this watch, we'll take a look at the fascinating history and evolution of the G-Shock, how it led to the creation of this innovative model, and thoughts on what the future holds. Join me for another in-depth, unsponsored review of the best affordable metal G-Shock on the market today.

Your intros are the best I've seen anywhere. The colours, shapes, and patterns combined with the choice of music produce an outcome that not only captures the true meaning of the subject of the video but also gives a different perspective on many watches, something beyond the manufacturer's vision.

Never expected to like a G-Shock as much as this one, but from the intro I expected it to have a 10 year battery life, and I agree that the bezel should really have been brushed. If it weren't for those two issues, it would probably have been my next purchase, because it would have been close to the perfect everyday watch imo. Hope they come out with an updated model soon! Thanks for the review, and keep up the great content!

The GMS-5600SB-1DR arrived today and I was surprised by how thin/small it is. This version has a matte black bezel. It sits really well on my twig wrist. Casio finally made a G-Shock that was closer to the size of their classic F-91W with all the water resistance and shock protection of its bigger brothers. The strap is even more comfortable than the regular Squares.

Great review Gent. Love the G shock videos. Fancy watches always don't last for me no matter how careful I am. When I had an apple watch it separated the screen and the module just from the tension of a button up shirt sleeve. I know that it is not a Seiko or a Rolex or something. Still you need your gear you rely on to actually work when the time comes. That's why I love G-shocks.

Put a bull bar and an army green canvas strap on it using jayandkays 14mm to 20mm strap adapter. It looks tough and fits me perfectly. Wear what you like based on what works for you.

This is awesome. 100% agree with you that the market should adjust their dated preconceptions about gender sizing and styling. This model is reeeally close to being a perfect blend of style, size, function and value. I agree that the finish could be more durable and include some breakup of the polished look with some brushed accents. Also, more traditional band mounting/size would allow a lot of flexibility. I'd love to see them develop this model further as it's close to being perfect- just needs a few tweaks. Lastly, I agree with you once again about the logo placement as that would create more balance and symmetry . Thanks for the review of this one- I never would have noticed this model otherwise.

Great vid!! I love that Gshock!! TGV, when you mentioned that the small size makes it seem more elegant/luxurious, I agree, or at least I have the same view as you. I am a big buy with a 7 and 1/4 inch wrist, so apparently bigger watches suit me better, but there is something more attractive with a smaller size watch. However, I am afraid of the 36mm Explorer ... even if I think its beautiful. I need to try it out... but then I probably will end up lusting over an unavailable watch.

I love the size of the square. I would definitely buy one if it was solar powered and had multiband 6

I have a DW 5600 that I coated in matt black steel with old patina, after three years there is no scratch, it looks fantastic at a much lower price.

A great review TGV, a very constructive review. I like the more minimalist approach to the GMS, it seems to add a touch of elegance to what is a tool watch. I could not agree more with the comment on the lug spacing, a 16mm strap would look odd. I also think it would be good if they made a solar version but I guess that may add thickness and certainly add cost. I do not baby my watches so have to agree that finger prints and scratches are an inevitable part of life, I kid myself by saying it adds character after all watches are meant to be worn. It would be handy to have a few more wrists for more watches but that would make clothing a tad more difficult. I do like my G-Shock watches, somehow I always seem to want (but not always purchase) another one. I have a couple of the full metal ones including the full stainless (bling monster) with the positive display, I don't know what Casio have done but is a fair bit better than my old 5610 solar display. I recently go the new full metal red version (I call it the Chianti) with the negative display and that knocks spots off my resin 5600 negative display. They certainly have upped there game display wise.

Great review as usual. Was totally unaware of this one, but it's apperently sold as a "ladies watch". I agree on all your points - the pros as well as the cons. They should've separated the Casio and G-Shock text, and also made the lug width wider. A brushed bezel would be better, but I guess this "ladies watch" is supposed to be a bit shinier lol. Oth, you can brush it yourself if you want, there's quite a few modding vids in that matter. The negative display seems better than my DW5600BB. I love the stealth look, but since I use it at work it's not that legible. Anyways, even though my G-Shock square wears fine on my 6.5 inch wrist, this would be a great size. Also at a decent price. Regards.

I love that this is a smaller option and with an all-metal case. Most G-shocks look ridiculous on my wrist, so I've never bought one. I own a Casio AE1200, and that works much better. Now if we could just convince Casio to make a metal case for something like the AE1200s, that would be something.

Nice review. If it was Tough Solar, it would be ideal! Although I see no attraction for a negative display. Yes, they are getting better, but the positive display was perfected many years ago.

I've been looking into getting a Casio to use for working out and playing sports and not worry about getting it dinged, but still wanting something that looks good for an adult. I had a plastic one as a kid and wore it everywhere. LOL! I can relate about not being sure what date it is. Working from home due to Covid and just recently retired, I find myself asking my Google home, "what day is it?".

this is a blingy version of the resin baby g. i have the bgd560 - 1er, which is the general black with normal display, all resin smaller case one. i love it, i dont have particularly small wrists, although i quite like smaller watches, and for this workout-gardening-do it all watch that i use mine for, its quite an advantage that its small and light, but its also still legible. fits my left wrist with a couple holes left on the strap(6.9inch), but i only have one holes left at max if i wear it on my right(7.2inch), but the strap still doesn't look akward that way though, so probably it has much shorter strap than this GMS one. i really recommend it, its a great watch at around 50-70usd.
