The NEW Steel Casio Cash-Grab?! - $100 Casio A1000 Review
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this Casio A1000 review video, I analyse whether this new 'vintage' Casio digital steel watch is worth your money. This video includes two sections, covering both a Casio A1000d review, alongside a Casio A1000m review (referring to each colourway). These models are sometimes referred to as the A1000M-1BEF and A1000D-7EF in Europe, whilst the black variant is called the A1000M-1BVT in the US and other markets.

Based on this review I purchased the A1000M. Couldn't be happier - great quality and I have no problem reading the dark screen in normal light - the dark screen actually makes it seem slightly more elegant if anything. However, Casio has now changed the box. It's now square, cheap-looking, and no leather pouch in sight - a plastic bag is the replacement :( Really delighted with the actual watch though.
I've got the negative display version, and I love it. Yes it's hard to read sometimes, but it's bloody gorgeous.

This is probably my second video of yours I've watch. I love TGV, but I haven't watch watch videos in a while and I came across this one before TGV's review of these watches (actually, thanks to you I know now he reviewed these as well, I haven't found it yet). So I agree with the above suggestions: review watches when you happen to find the time, don't mind if you weren't the first (people anyways are going to see all the reviews of the particular watch they are interested in most probably). Also that means you wouldn't review old watches still on sale? that doesn't make sense. Do your reviews as if you were the only reviewer in the world.

You absolutely nailed it, I do like the all metal design and the larger thicker stance, but as you rightly said the limited water resistance is a deal breaker, all though I am 95% confident that this watch will be fine in water submersion, as my Casio F-91, and my A-158W is absolutely safe for casual water activities, including snorkeling, I have exposed both of these Casio's to water multiple times, the tight push button to case clearance, and oring seal stainless back offers sufficient water resistance for average water activities. But a minimum 50m or better 100m debt rating would have meant that Casio, put more effort into the case design, and automatically increased the value of the watch definitively. Great video as always, excellent review, all bases covered, let's hope Casio, redesigns this concept with a better water resistant attribute 👍
Keep pushing good stuff like this! I love your content.
Waiting on mine now , ordered it Saturday, I went with the white positive display 👍🏻
For some reason a lot of folks online are swapping entire modules from one A1000 to another (or from an A700 to the 1000) to fix the inverted LCD, but it would be WAY cheaper and frankly not much trickier to just remove and rotate the polarizer, like people have been doing for years with the F91
Great review! I agree, this watch with positive display and brushed bracelet, and a flat dark dial would be killer and sell like crazy.
In the 80s casio had many stainless steel digital watches but i can't name a single one that looked quite like this. Funny enough their water sports watches come closest in therms of styling even though this is not water proof. It's my favourite casio in my collection and i wear it every day. I have modified it to a positive display and an A700 bracelet, it gets me more complements than any other watch i own.
I love these watches, they have such a retro future look to them! I ordered the white one from Amazon for about £55.

Great review as always !! I like the a168 and a158
As a practical matter, I just don't like the way that the three-button Casios operate. In just daily usage, you have to go through the "setting" mode where you might inadvertently change the time. The four-button ones have a dedicated "adjust" button that you have to intentionally hold down for a couple of seconds, and I like that arrangement MUCH better.
I was on the verge of looking for a steel Casio ... This video helps... I wonder when Casio will bring out Casio Royale in steel.
I have the a1000m, and I don’t have a problem with the display at all, only when in dark rooms, and you have the illumination for that… I am very happy with the purchase, I did replace the strap for a light Brown leather that really makes the watch pop…
My buddy gave this to me as a gift after we finished out first research paper together. It's the most beautiful watch I own, even though I own some vintage mechanical pieces.

I would love to see a digital Casio watch with a steel case, sapphire crystal and 100m WR. Since they dont have them in their catalogue I went with a Casio Edifice EFR-S108D-1AVUEF which has all those specs for under...wait for it...a 100 Euros, and it looks absolutely stunning (Genta-Homage). Maybe a watch for you to present here, Ben? By the way the Edifice is proof that those specs are possible for a very reasonable price.
I have the silver "women's" version. It's awesome. Pure class and definitely unisex
Why would you want better water resistance? It´s good enough for a toilet drop or an accidental fall into the water and a short swim to get back into the boat... Why would you want more? I mean, do anyone swim or shower with the watch on? I just don't get the overkill water resistance on most watches. It's like demanding full water resistance for computer mouses....
I got the Gold A700, I didn’t know I’ll love it so much

Yes you finally did it!! I own the a1000d since Release.. Your Review is pretty on point.. but youre ok with the bracelets? There are the cheapest Things on these watches - you basically only pay for the watch. I d like this one with the "black clutter and unneccecary lettering all over" and of course micro adjust and at least 5atm.. In the end I end up wearing my a163 and w59 more often cause the 1000 is just too 'blingy'.. maybe they should do an all brushed one!? Id prefer that so it doesnt stand out so much. But for casio fans metal case are so damn collectible 😁
Wow, on my way to find the first casio for my small wrist just couple days ago. First, I saw TUG video and skipped the part talking about negative display so I almost go with the black one. Then I saw the white one, and after googling and youtubing, I decided to order the white one 7 hours ago. And then finally saw your video and now my heart at peace. I'm intended to wear this watch as a dress watch so wr is none issue for me. A sapphire would be nice but my 300usd SKX013K2 don't have sapphire neither so 🤷 just wonder why this watch suddenly get review by you and TUG just now after nearly a year it released.
I have held back on buying the Casio 1000 for the same reason you stated about the water resistance being only 30M. I think the price is a bit high also being nearly £100 and I think around £50-£60 would be a fairer price for them. At the price they are at the moment it should have a sapphire crystal and have 50M water resistance. I recently watched your video on the Armitron Rubik you did and I will probably get one. I did however purchase the Armitron analogue/digital "Ridgemont" half the price of the A1000 and it is really an excellent watch for the price. Like you I have already got the Casio A700 and I really enjoy wearing it. Thanks Ben for your review on the A1000.
Casio's negative displays seem to have drastically gone down in quality in the last few years. I have a G-Shock G-7800-B which I purchased in 2009 that has a very easy to read negative display in most light conditions. The G-7800 series was excellent and I dearly wish Casio would bring them back! I also have a much newer GA-110-LN which I bought in 2019 with a negative display that is much more difficult to read. My first thought might be that it was some change made for battery life or cost, though as my G-7800 has had the same long battery life as most G-Shocks, I have to assume the recent drop in negative digital displays is merely and sadly just Casio cutting corners for the sake of cost.

I love this new model. Thanks for your review! I just wanted to add that I believe Oceanus is still Casio's nicest line outside of G-Shock. I've got a couple, and the finishing is close to on par with my Grand Seiko pieces.
I wonder if Casio used this to ‘test the market’? They’ve come out with a full steel version of the G-Shock 5600 now.

@@betulaobscura probably not a genuine concern for most people. The only issue that would create would be that over time the crystal would be able to take less water pressure.
I know this is an older video, and I watched it several times from when it did come out, I think all your criticism are valid, but you missed one. These modules don't have a universal calendar. Also I would like it if the 12/24 and time setting options be under a setup button like you find in watches like the G Shocks. Just a few additional thoughts. By the way I did purchase the A700 and the watch is great, would just like to see the changes above. Great job as always.
meh.. fully agree with you. You should try Casio MTP1200 - I did a review on it, but I am just messing around. I wonder what would you say about that watch as a professional reviewer.
Once you do a face swap, the A1000m is a pretty excellent watch. The Milanese strap is quite nice and it doesn't pull my arm hairs like every other metal Casio strap I have tried.
This is a digital beauty! I love the stainless Steel case that wears beautifully and got one for £62 from a reputable jeweller on sale, so we'll pleased with it! I think I would still pay the rrp for one, though, if looking for it as its really that good! My only gripe is the 3 bar waterproof? Now if it had 10 bar this would be a fantastic digital watch!
It's been a while since this was released, I wonder, is there a plan for an updated version with sapphire glass, a solid bracelet, and maybe better water resistance? Alternatively similar pieces from other brands? I currently have a basic A168WE, but after 5-ish years, the resin case is really showing wear on all edges and corners. It's fine though, I like the "worn" look, but wonder if I could get a more premium one with the same design language.
Going to order the A1000M despite what had been said about the display. Seems that this watch looks much better IRL than on promo materials.

Oh so close! Still very nice though. The lighter one is my preference, but the MoP seems a bit feminine. Not sure. I’m pretty handy with metal projects and I bet I can get a good brush finish on one, which Casio should’ve opted for.
Recently found a couple of 1990 Casio watches on ebay with round designs and I bought some cheap extras with the same module number for repairs or replacing a module. It gives extra watches that are rebuilt and maybe unique. Those A1000 watches are not for tinkering much. I like the looks any way. Not there yet in my journey or something. If the bracelets are 2 cm then maybe later.
The black center one looks very good to me. Cool.
I've got the white one. The biggest bugbear for me is the lack of micro adjustment on the bracelet (had to change it). Other than that, I like it. Sapphire would make it better though.
A sapphire crystal, and better water resistance, would indeed make this watch a real blinder. I bought both in the end, as the negative display was so bad, and I wanted to swop over to the milanese band.
Hi. Could you recommend which digital stainless steel watch you like the most ?

Definitely not ice cold, but not rubbish either. Cool, then. I dislike the shape of the casing (same with the A158 and A168). is it possible to buy the milanese strap (aka mesh) to replace the bracelet?? Does it have to be specially designed to this one or those regular ones will work as well?
I bought a A1000m a couple of months back. I just can't get along with it. I wore it for a week and on my wrist it feels like a ladies watch although that may be because I wear a wide range of watches from GShock MTG down to the Lorus titanium field watch. These watches are very classy meaning u can dress up or dress down in them. Great design
I think you can just change the polarizing filter rather than the whole display, its just a film that goes over the top of the LCD panel that makes the digits appear. While they are ok I don't like the change of Facia design, I'd rather it have the classic Casio look (like the F91 etc) rather the more modern design that they went for, I would say it puts this more in the Meh side of things as I don't hate it otherwise.
