The Best $100 Casio For The Smaller Wrist?: G-Shock Mini GMN550 Watch Review & Comparrison
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
What do Arnold Schwarzenegger, 80s design, Denys Lasdun, Japanese horological icons, and the world’s toughest watches have in common?
Today we find out in a review of my Casio G-Shock Mini (Ref. GMN-550-1DJR). As always, we analyse the watch in depth with a comparison to my favourite $50 beater watch, the legendary G-Shock DW5600-E. We look at the history of the brand, technical specifications, and the evolution of its design. The review culminates in a discussion of its most critical positive and negative aspects.
Join me today to find out if this is the greatest G-Shock ever made for the smaller wrist.

I love that you don't just do a simple review. I love the fact that we get a history lesson on the items. That is the main reason I have subscribed to your channel.
Love the akira intro.

I love reading comments like this, there. is a special kinda of joy that the. g-shock gives, I can't really explain, but. knowing it can take just about anything and will be there adds a special something. May your honeymoon continue! Thank you Chris, Best regards, TGV
Extremely well done review and so well edited, produced and written. I got one and love it. Fits a 7inch wrist just fine. Keep up the great and insightful content and commentary.
Yes, the intro was cool as always thank you TGV. I love Casio digital watches they are functional and cool looks, and after all they're super affordable. I wish you review some Pro-trek as well. Thanks TGV for this review
I wore G-Shocks throughout High School and College. I wish I had those now! Nice review. I'm inspired to buy one and relive the good old days!
Dude!!! What a great intro!!! And may I say it’s even better to see you return to your roots with your latest videos. Back to what we all love about the urban Gentry
Great "Silent Running" Huey, Dewey and Louie reference, there. Loved the comparison to architecture that followed; what a building design!
Great intro! As a 10ager from the 80s this intro bring back memories and sweet nostalgia. We all had digital watches from casio/seiko, not willing analogic at all during this period. Schwartzy Goldorak and Albator were our hero’s. Back to reality, I greatly appreciated your design insight on the watch, thanks again for that.
I like the way you know the history behind the watches you review, adds so much more fun content!
Oh my god that Akira intro was stunning. Wonderfully done!
Reminds me of the watch that was used in 2001 A Space Odessey , kinda a precursor to what was in store for us with digital watches. Well done review !
Love these in depth reviews - especially the opening sequence with the anime. That association made me want to buy the watch!! You official af
Hope you are well TGV. I only recently stumbled into watches and your videos. Just wanted to ad a comment and say how much I have learned from you video. Respect for all the research you do before making a video like this. Warmest regards from South. Africa.
I love the effort you put into reviewing a cheap plastic watch, which is exactly why this is the only watch channel for me. This was a pleasure to watch as a G-Shock entusiast! Stay awesome:)
This one of those watches that I never knew I needed....until now.
This video it’s about to turn 4 years, today is 01/12/2023, it’s the 4th time I’ve seen it and that intro keeps blowing my mind; the music mixed with the images of anime and watches blended in… great just great. Thank you Tristano
Absolutely love that into, think it almost tops the other gshock military intro you done a while back. Well done Sir!
Lovin’ the Space View wrist-check, the Akira opening & as always thanks for the very informative video!
I love my G-shock mini! Great video thank you. I love the history behind these time pieces.
I greatly enjoy learning about the history of the pieces, like others have said. Including the history really is one of the hallmarks of the true horology enthusiast. Well done!
Nice video👍 I love G-Shocks, they are so versatile and make so many models!
The first and essential channel for every watch enthusiast!
I have had that Casio GMN-550-1DJR for a while now and it's a great watch! I wear whilst working out, running, camping and don't treat it gently, but it has prevailed!
Great Intro Sir as always, Fantastic review of a classic watch. It always warms the heart to talk all things 80s lol 👍🇮🇹😊

Thank you for the interesting historical background Appreciate that👏👏👍👍
great review!!! I also bought a G Shock with negative display and I gave it away as a present for a friend, still love the original as you say!
Even the new G5600 with bluetooth/solar is a good evolution. :D Very practical during travels, adjusts automatically through your phone. The Akira intro rocks :D
Thanks to your video, Tristano, I bought my very first Casio G-Shock! I settled on the original GW5600E. Fitted a J&K nato strap adapter in olive drab and a black and olive Bond strap from NATO Strap Co. couldn’t be happier with a classic timepiece. My grandson will soon be headed off to USMC boot camp. I’m going to be sure he has this G-Shock strapped to his wrist. Cheers!
I bought a myself a matt black resin 5610 with a black dial as a Christmas present for myself last year. I absolutely love it and I wear it virtually every day. Your description of the G-Shock is spot on. It really remind of brutalist architecture and of Sci-fi films of the 80's that I grew up watching, but I didn't know why exactly until this video.
Awesome Akira intro - makes me want to rewatch it! My first G-Shock love was the DW-5600E, but I have since upgraded (as my Christmas present last year) to the GW-5000-1JF. It's all I'll ever need and want in a G-Shock. :)
Cool mixup of cut scenes and background score in the intro. Well it needs a lot of patience and creative sense to come up with such beautiful rendering👍. Keep up the good work. TGV cheers. Can't wait to catchup with DW5600E already ordered online, Also need you to put a video on Mr. Bean's Casio data bank with leather strap it looks so classic an icon on its own.
Great opening. So glad you are making videos agin
Tgv youre really talented as a video editer!! I dont know what your day job is but the intro is very fitting and crazy!
My maternal grandfather has always worn a Casio so he was quite intrigued when I asked for a Seiko 5 SNXS77, I quite love the blue dial. I rarely take it off. My paternal grandfather had a Bulova Accutron my father always told me stories about. Kind of reigniting my fascination with watches. I had for the most part stuck with dress watches and field watches, but soon I discovered your channel and then found myself looking at GMT’s and Divers. Needless to say this is going to be a really expensive hobby. Lol
Daaamn that intro! Reminds me of Initial D. Been looking forward to this review, cheers TGV!!
Your intros are always the dopest on KZread
Absolutely loved that intro. Excellent video as always. I love Casio and G-Shock in particular and that Mini has such a great look. Also, always great to see the Accutron! P.S. Those custom charges drive me up the walls. I collect sunglasses and have a penchant for the US brand Knockaround and I always end up paying extra on top of purchase and shipping.
Sick intro bro :). Great review per usual. Cheers!
TGV posted a video - My day is completed
Gorgeous intro Tristano, what a masterpiece.
You SIr make great videos! It is hard not to buy a new watch after i watch your videos! Currently have 4 gshocks.
Love the subtle jazz music in the background.

How amazing is this intro!!!??? I'm sold
The timing of this video couldn’t have been better for me. I literally have been searching this entire week for the best small wrist g shock. The dw5600 immediately appeared to be the obvious choice until I found out that these g shock minis existed. I was however turned off by their significant price premium over their normal g shock counterparts. This video confirms that I should just pull the trigger on the gwm5610 :) thanks for the video!!!
Which other channel puts as much love and dedication into the intro? Superb! atb snack.
As always an amazing video TGV. I appreciate all your hard work. After watching this I went back to your Gshock DW5600 review and you could not find any negatives in that watch. I’m not an OG gentry but since I’ve been following you it’s really really rare you give a watch, a perfect TGV approval. Honestly, I own that watch and I could not agree more. On the other hand (literally😜) I have my Casio Enticer MTP-E150L-7BVDF (white dial, Roman numerals and sub seconds hand) which is a recent purchase inspired by your Stowa Marine Classic. It is a really nice deck/marine inspired watch under 50 bucks. It’s an amazing budget alternative and I’d love to see your take on it. Much love and regards, MS.
I bought 5600 Japanese military based on advice from this channel for work and it has since become my main go to watch.
I loved the Akira intro! I bought a F91w awhile back and it's my perfect daily for sliding under my motorcycle jacket, I think a Gshock could be next.
I have to say this channel has better intros than many other's entire content. Wristwatch check: Wearing my brand spanking new G-9100 Gulfman. Love it to bits. This is my first ever G-Shock - pondering which model to get next. I'm thinking something solar powered, with as much functionality as can be crammed into a watch. The 46 mm diameter of the G-9100 is perfect for my 6.5" wrist - it wears small, but I'm not sure the biggest G-Shocks wouldn't feel overwhelming.
Just bought the g shock 5610bb yesterday which is just as glossy and is build very similar. Love the look. True retro sci fi.
Great to hear you mention the UEA!
Great video. Really like this G, might have to grab one.
thanks, great review & history lesson! as someone with a very small wrist i ended up with a couple of Baby G BLX-560s (white 7ER & the new grey VH-1ER) as these look great, more unisex and very comfortable!
I am glad you made this video.
Thanks for this great review. I’ve been wanting to get a GShock for some time but have a slender wrist and thought it would look too big. This version looks perfect.

Great entry and excellent history lesson as usual. I love Professor TGV segments, informing and entertaining. Love my G-Shocks. I still have my first G-Shock I started my career with 27 years ago. 5 others in my collection. Hence my favoritism towards large watches. Thank you, TGV. U/O 👍
I love the backround music :) There is never enough Casio´s to have :D
Wow what a cool intro!!! Loving the Casio!

Thank you TGV for your very interesting and complete (as usual) review. On January I have bought from Japan my BGD5000-1JF. It is perfect for small wrist, it's though, solar, 20 bar wr and radio-contolled. It is perfect. The only cons is the glossy finish which is too delicate. I just bumped the wall with my wrist and the watch was indelibly marked
that new intro fits the G-shock perfectly!!!
Great intro. I like the Casios. I wear right now one of the least expensive models, W-218H, which I love because if I break it through roughness I have already gotten my money's worth out of it. I would love to get an Edifice I have my eye on, but as for a G-Shock I would want an S series. I very much enjoy your content, please keep it up.
Phenomenal video. Loved all the detail and just more talk about g shock. I am jonsing for one of those Gundam gshocks!
Would love to hear your three-watches by Casio for $100 collection - great vid as always :)

wow, now i really want one! or at least the bigger version. the glossy finish really suits it amazingly. i was kinda aware of this model but was never really into it until this video's emphasis on its design.
Bought the silver casio royale recently. Love it great little watch.

Great video! Wondering what I need and where I can purchase the adaptors and black nato strap to for my DW5600
Great video, cheers!
Just bought my first casio after being a smart watch wearer for years(boring) GW-5510-1BJF from Japan. Cannot wait!
1983 ! Can certainly relate to the year myself .. )
Finally got one of these, and after a weekend with it I absolutely love it. I already own a G-Shock (a DW-5750E-1B) that I wear mostly at work, but I was looking for a "dress(-ier) digital" piece. I'd planned to skip this one in part due to the import duty, extended shipping time, etc. involved in getting it from Japan, and was going to go with my second choice (a Timex Command Urban) when I lucked out and found a stateside seller. I should note that he glossy surface attracts fingerprints like crazy, and I'm not sure what to do should the strap ever break on this, but otherwise it's awesome. Thanks TGV: this is the second watch you've turned me on to. Onwards and Upwards!
Thanks, TGV for another great video. I gotta say though, I'm not a fan of the new mic. Ever since you changed it, I feel like you are either super quiet or there are more breathe sounds and pops. Not nitpicking, just giving MHO. Either way though, love your vids!!
Saw that baddie on amazon and passed it up a week ago, gonna have to pick one up since arnie rocked it!!
A++ review!!
I was looking for a watch for my 8 year old and G-Shocks are usually too big but this is perfect for him. Great watch for getting the new generation into horology...
Cool intro, enjoyed the video as always. ⌚️⏱👍
