    The Cash+ is extrapowerful if your utility companies allow you to "pay in advance". My electric company allows me to add up to $1,000 at a time to my account via credit card for a flat $2.75 fee. I get a year's worth of electric bills (I live alone in a 1/1 condo, so not much need for electricity, and all other utilities are bundled into my HOA fee, so no earning power there) in one pass, freeing up three quarters a year to use this card on another category.

  • @RJFinancial

    The BCP at least for me is super easy to offset the annual fee with. I already subscribe to Disney+ bundle and that card has an $84 credit for the Disney bundle. So that makes the effective annual fee $11. That means if you spend over $183 in the 6% categories you are in the green for that card for the year. I like to cook for my family so that is surpassed quite easily. It’s really an awesome card! In 6-12 months I am going to think about applying for the Citi CC and the Chase FF. I have the Discover IT and I like the rotating 5% :)

    Another interesting route is using cash back debit cards. The Juno debit card offers 5% cash back at 10 merchants of your choice from their list. The Albert debit card also has cash back on offers that you have to activate similar to the Cashapp Debit card. I also got an email saying that I believe was targeted from Gemini. They are offering 10% back in a crypto of your choice up to $200 a month in spend on gas at the pump or EV. This is a limited time offer for new and existing cardholders, and you must be approved on or prior to January 15, 2023.

    I've been so burned on gift cards by online flippers who slowly turn into scams, glitches with online promos, or employees that return the wrong card with zero balance. We still buy gift cards, but only when they're at least 10-15% off, from a reputable source, and an employee never gets two gift cards at the same time. Big Costco, Sam's Club, and Cybermonday deals are about it. Otherwise I would rather just uses the best credit card with a merchant and not have to worry about it.

    Based on your categories, here's what I've got currently Groceries: BCP 6% statement credits Phone/Internet: CIC 5x UR Dining: CFF 3x UR Gas: CFF 5x UR until Q4 next year Utilities: CIC 5x UR via VGC prepay or BBC 2% statement credits or PayPal MC 2% cash back Gym: BBC 2% statement credits/ PayPal MC 2% cash back Catchall: BBC 2% statement credits/ PayPal MC 2% cash back Shopping: Prime Visa 5% cash back / PayPal MC 3% cash back Gift Cards: CIC 5x UR (almost always VGC, Home Depot or Best Buy for me) Travel/Transit: CFF 5x UR / BCP 3% statement credits Rent: N/A for me Entertainment: BCP 6% statement credits (streaming only, but a huge category for me with YTTV/PPV) Rotating Categories: CFF and DIT I like to think this is a pretty robust setup that hits all the categories with a minimum of issuers which gives you a high concentration of rewards and """relationship""" For me personally, having cards from a dozen or more banks and issuers isn't as +EV as sticking with three or four of the top dogs. I've even considered dropping the PayPal MC because of Synchrony's history and the shenanigans that PayPal have been pulling recently, though I haven't had a bad experience myself. Chase and AmEx offers in particular go a long way towards me preferring these issuers and why I think the BBC is probably the best 2% catchall out there. Having access to the offers can lead to huge +EV. The Chase shopping portal can also get you a ton of extra multipliers, I like it much better than Rakuten or Honey etc. If I was going to add cards to this setup it would be CSR, CFU (hopefully with 5x gas/groceries), CCC, Cash+ in that order. I'd definitely product change my Discover Chrome to another DIT or NHL card in a heartbeat if Discover ever gave me the option. If you can get the BBC $500/$15k offer it's 5.33% catch all on up to $15k spend in the first year. Or just go into 4 player mode and churn Inks like the pros.

  • @RJFinancial

    @RJFinancial

    I love it. I agree on having cards from a ton of issuers. I don't mind with cash back as much so long as I can redeem easily. It's what sold me on the citi DC over an WF Active cash. It's also why I still don't love getting more US Bank cards. Good cards but redemption rules are silly. Huntington at least lets me redeem any amount of $25+ which is fine as I cash out once per year.
