    This is, imo, the best "budget" OTF out there. First off it looks great; it's actually a reissue of a retro c1979 OTF knife that Campolin Sr designed for Othello Knives of Austria. Essentially AKC kept that great handle shape and classic full flat ground spearpoint blade but improved the materials and construction. I find the handle very comfortable too, which is more than I can say for many OTFs that tend to just be simple rectangular handle, and it's easy to see where Benchmade took their inspiration for the Infidel. Anyway the Evo's nicely made; great cnc work on the handle and button with excellent fit & finish. I particularly like the button design, being post-mounted it doesn't scrape directly against the handle as on the vast majority of OTFs, even expensive ones. That gives it the advantage of not wearing the finish off the handle and eliminating all button rattle besides (which tends to get worse, especially on cheaper otfs as the constant sliding of the button wears the grooves or rails out so it wobbles around). Nice powerful spring that opens with authority, no misfires ever, and very minimal blade play that's on par with 2 of my 3 Microtechs -- my Halo V has virtually zero blade play but it's a single action button lock so doesn't count. I wish the pocket clip was a bit deeper carry, but I can live with that. Mine has zero rattle noise in any position period, but it did make an annoying vibrating-springy-clingy noise when opening. I took it apart and found most of the factory oil dried out, so I lubed the inner tracks and catches with Tuf-Glide, then lubed the mainspring itself along its entire length with M-Pro 7 oil (which is nice thick stuff), and that completely removed the irritating spring noise. It's been several months and hundreds of firings later and it still makes a solid mechanical "ka-chonk" sound opening and closing. I hate that cheap sounding spring noise, but it's an easy fix. So there's my opinion on the Evo: Awesome quality for the price. I can also recommend the "Ace" stiletto type switchblade; honestly everything in AKC's EXtreme series is great stuff and a serious step up from their traditional Italian type switchblades or even the F-16 that everyone seems to love. Don't get me wrong the F-16 is great for the money too, but spend a slight bit more for a huge jump in quality and get something from the Extreme series -- they give Micotech a run for their money in the quality vs price department. Wow way longer than I intended...

    I appreciate the in depth response. I unfortunately sold the one in this vid a while back which i do regret and reading your comment made me regret it more tbh haha. I think i was turned off by the cheaper steel but i didnt give it much of a chance, but i remember it being very comfortable in hand and when deploying the blade

    @@straighttothepoint3477 Yeah if I had one wish it'd be a steel upgrade. Still, Aus8 is certainly acceptable for EDC use and it sharpens easily. It's a big step up from the usual 400/440* series steels most cheap OTFs (and cheap knives in general) use. That said, AKC is adding better steels to their Xtreme series in newer models. If you like Italian stilettos for example, their Xtreme Shadow modernized stiletto comes in D2 -- and is also great quality all around, with bolster lock too. From what I've heard we may see D2 and other options come to the EVO, at least in limited future runs. *Just to note there's nothing wrong with 440A or C when it's _properly heat treated._ It'll never match stuff like VG10, M390, S30V or other supersteels obviously, but a good heat treat on a 440A blade is literally the difference between your $10 Pakistani flea market or China-made gas station knife, and legendary blades like the Buck 110 (yes, their famous "Bucksteel"™ was just 440 with a perfect heat treat lol).

  • @mastervader4444
    @mastervader44442 жыл бұрын

    And what exactly from this price point set it apart from a microtech? Because i had a hellhound trodoon and it was pure garbage, and yes it was original bought at an authorized dealer... Paid $300 for that and half of the case was fiber glass-ish, the release button fell just because it splintered one tiny bit of the rail

    I love my microtech Ultratech, never had a problem with it. microtech is known to be extremely reliable, but there are some cases where people have problems like what you are saying, which is expected with any manufacturer that mass produces knives. Some of them are bound to be flawed, but they have a lifetime warranty, so you can get it fixed for free. Also in no way is this akc better than a microtech. The action and reliability is similar but the blade steel being aus 8a it's very much a budget steel. compared to microtech, they always use premium steels that are well heat treated. Also when I got this akc, it was on sale for 60 dollars, but still for 120 ish it's not a bad option for a budget otf
