Nice review!! The best review I’ve seen. As a Mainer, I loved it but I also thought it incredibly accurate!

You honor me. A Maine Man with such a compliment. Thank you! Your people certainly know how to make some amazing boat shoes.

I have been wearing my Rancourt boat shoes for several years. They are the best. A couple of years ago I had them resoled by Rancourt and I am sure they will last me several more days.

I presume you mean decades not days! Hahaha. I'm looking forward to owning mine so long! Love that they can be resoled. Makes it even nicer to wear.

Enjoyed your review. I also got the same exact pair during the crowdfunding. Rancourt makes the best boat shoe. I like their look more than Sperry. I think maybe the toe is a bit more narrow and it looks more stylish to me. I also have a pair made from Horween Essex that I bought in 2015. They are holding up great and well worth the full price I paid back then. The Essex ones seem to be discontinued now, unfortunately. I love breaking both pairs out in the warm weather, and have worn them all over the US and even a couple trips to Europe

Lots of amazing points! Fantastic points. They're just so comfortable aren't they. Sperry are a good first pair, but as a last forever you can't go past rancourt. I'm always tempted by another pair, just cause I like my first pair 😂 but don't need it

@@jessupsays yes the Essex ones especially fit like a glove since they are well broken in. And I actually have a pair of Sperry Gold Cups too and they’re definitely nice but not nearly as nice as the Rancourts. The leather is much better on Rancourt. Sperry is definitely a good value for the price, though. For a boat shoe in between Sperry and Rancourt, I like Sebago Docksides. Not made in USA, unfortunately, but still nice shoes.

@frogwater0 again great points. For me the interest is owning a piece of made in maine, so I wouldn't buy elsewhere from brands that offer that. They just do it properly. And yeah that's how you get that glove like fit. Make me want to wear them!

@@jessupsays Oh I definitely agree on that! I buy USA-made whenever I can. In fact, that's how I found Rancourt in the first place. Before I bought my first pair, I only knew Sperry. When I want to buy something, I usually check for USA option first. If I can't find USA-made then I will usually look for Europe, and mainly just trying to avoid China after that.

@frogwater0 hahaha 🤣 yes I agree. I look at made in Aus/ NZ first. Then UK / USA usually.. then europe. because European wages are sometimes similar to Chinese, not the same lol, but similar. Though the products are sometimes better, again not always!

😄 I love my *"boat shoes"* as when walking on concrete and then walking on gravel (stones) _I can't feel the difference_, also they are Goodyear Welted and the can last over 10 year if well looked after *Saphir* shoe care products, if you can't afford use *Kiwi* shoe care products! 😁

They're certainly a comfortable and useful shoe aren't they! I use Saphir too, certainly seems to make a huge difference to the overall lifespan, though we all start with Kiwi products! (as a kiwi myself its a mark of pride!)

@@jessupsays They are a comfortable shoe for $270 (NZ) they are well worth the price! Having said that for any man starting out in life, could buy a "cheap" pair of shoe to stat off, and then save up for a pair Oxford's ($470, Loake 200B), also a pair of boat shoes too! What's your option?

  • @jessupsays

I agree, it all depends on what you're using them for. These are fantastic as weekend shoes, but I can't imagine they'd suit all workplaces (though some these days). There are so many new brands making quality shoes at a reasonable price, my favourites at the moment are Meermin (budget) and Carmina (Premium). Though my personal go-to brand will remain Crockett and Jones at this stage! Luckily we have a few options here in AUS, I struggled to find anything welted living in Auckland!

I own a pair of original Rockport Boat Shoes oily USA tanned leather handstitched on the last since more than twenty years, the best shoes i ever bought. Now the Rockport Shoes are terrible, made in India, bad quality can kill a product for ever.
