I've never heard of boat shoes being hated lol. When I was a kid they were of course associated more with preppy kids, but those days are over. I wear them primarily with a light colored pair of fitted jeans and they look great.

I'm from Florida,and I'm not preppy at all. But when its 99°F outside with nearly 100% humidity, I can't think of a better shoe to wear.

Boat shoes are fine, they're a classic shoe that match with shorts and a T-shirt and they're perfect for messing around on boats, at the beach etc or in hot locations. Just don't wear them with socks or formal wear. Wear whatever you want, don't worry about what others think or tell you to do.

Back in the day boat shoes were considered a collegiate fashion statement. That to me, is very cool. As penny loafers were the hot collegiate fashion statement in the 70's, boat shoes made it big in the late 80's and through the 90's. Today's college fashion statement in contrast is anything from Nike, New Balance, Under Armour, or Sketchers. Long live the boat shoe.

Ive been wearing boat shoes for over 15 years, I wear them with skinny jeans, slim fit jeans, and some chinos, t shirts and jackets. It's all about making your own style and making them work with what you wear. They are the most comfortable shoe I own. I get compliments with how I wear them 😄

Look nice with a wide-leg chino shorts, an oversized button down and a brightly coloured sweater. That is a really nice look. If you have a bit of a belly guy as well, then that adds to the look.

They are a good substitute for the omnipresent sneakers.

I never heard of or met anyone in my country hating boat shoes. That shoe design is very cool and classy.

What happens when the person who wears the boat shoes, because he actually goes boating, fishing, and sailing, particularly sailing? Never, ever wear long socks with boat shoes, never more than ankle high. Thigh-high socks on boat shoes get wet, fall down, and become problematic while sailing. Thus, never wear tall socks with boat shoes. Boat shoes are cool because they're specifically practical for sailing. They serve an identifiable function!

They last forever. Good brands' boat shoes can outlive us.

You’re right about their lack of versatility. I wear them only with shorts and no show socks.

Bruh I hike with these, I ride my bike, I also ride my Quad and drive with them. I also go shooting with them, I run in the rain with them and I also climb hills with them. All I have to say is that they help up amazingly, As for my Nike af1, they aren't about anymore, they came undone,

In Brazil where flip flops are very common, i think boat shoes are pretty good choice.

I have 3 pairs of Sebago's but the uppers and soles are better than what you are showing. I absolutely love mine, and they are sooo comfortable. I polish mine ever few days and the uppers look very rich. They aren't cheap shoes. I do not and have never followed styles. I'm comfortable and that's the bottom line. I look at peoples footware all the time, and i just see that the trend is laziness. I live in Florida and men wear either boat shoes, sneakers, or sandals.

That's life changing and most of us neglect it.

Never heard of the ladies hating this shoe on men, and there is nothing wrong with looking preppy ! They are great for summer and work well with Chinos and shorts and you do not need to wear Ralph Lauren with them just wear a short a polo. I am actually sailer and wear them on the boat in summer so yeah happy to use them on the boat like they were designed to be.

I'm 53 year old male and in high school these shoes where the bomb, and still are. I have a HUGE collection of Sperry Boat shoe that my wife had asked me before Christmas what would you like? I had nothing else in mind except to ask for a Gift Card at Sperry Top Sider. She asked me "What what Boat shoe can you possibly want that you haven't have already?" Well i had asked for the the Hand Made In Main Gold Cup Series in two-tone Light and dark brown. When Christmas came and i opened up my gift i was BLOWN-AWAY! What a GORGEOUS shoe! My wife had my 2 sons to help pitch in and get them for me since they are over $300. I absolutley love these shoes. ❤😊😊🏆

I love my *"boat shoes"* as when walking on concrete and then walking on gravel _(stones)_ I can't feel the difference, also they are *Goodyear Welted* and the can last over 10 year if well looked after *Saphir* shoe care products, if you can't afford use *Kiwi* shoe care products!

Wear what you like. Don’t let anyone tell you what is “good” or “bad”. I have multiple pairs and wear them all the time. Make your own style, not someone else’s.

Im not into trends or going for a certain look. I just wanna look like i have some self respect and luckily, my big sis taught me how to do that without looking tacky growing up. The darker brown ones have gotten me compliments when i wear them with regular fit jeans and a neutral color polo or dress shirt. You dont have to go all in on the preppy or hipster look to pull them off.

@@donquixote1066 they look like resort wear! Even with shorts, or linen shirts. A fun shoe to have around. I wouldn't want to walk five miles in them however. If your chinos become a little bit long with the boat shoes on, roll up the cuff a little.

I used to think it was associated with a rich douche. But as I get older I start to like them even though I’m still broke lol

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of options to replace the boat shoes. You can try espadrilles. Otherwise you’d have to go with white minimalist sneakers.

I love taking cruises, and I have to fly to the port, because I live in Ohio. When you can't pack much for the trip, these shoes are perfect for shorts, jeans, kakies and beach weare. I can combine them with multiple outfits. Of course they don't match a suit, but everything down from there is perfect and don't take the bulk in your suite case

I luv boat shoes . The style is so cool . They can be worn in any casual attire . You don't wear it with tuxedo of course .

The only negative stigma of Deck shoes that I can remember happened back around the 70's & 80s the negative of the shoes was that it was a status symbol for having Money . Back in the 80's the Richie's as they were called never mingled with a non rich person. in recent years it's been stylishly popular again . During the 80's I remember Payless and Kmart selling there brand of Deck shoes and the deck sneakers. I have been kicking around with one shape or another of Deck shoes or deck sneakers for close to forty years.

Starter for your 2nd video The 85+ yr old invention of the boat shoe is cool and *verifiable*. Please reiterate wearing them with shorts / socks is plain bad. But they ARE very versatile - not out of place with t-shirts / cutoffs all the way to the causal side of blazer / tie. True, they are no good with anything more formal. However, I once met Dennis Conner in a tux while rocking a pair of patent leather Sperrys.

Today I never wear *cheap shoes* because they end up costing over $1,000 over 10 years, and also can cause feet problems e.g. micro-cramps, due to lack of *arch support* as to sand shoes, may be around $150-$250 range. as to boat shoes, ($370), Derby, and Oxford ($470). and they *have to be Goodyear Welted* no if's or buts about it!

Its trends not that long ago crocs were so hated now everybody wears them because we are tought to follow because leading isn't easy

I have disliked boat shoes for years, and I recently started wondering why. I actually don't believe it is any of these standarized stigmas, but it is definitely seeing it worn wrong on people. Stylish , comfortable , casual - can be dressed up or down - better than a stupid sneaker - better than a stupid hob-stomper [ unless there is a foot of snow outside ] - I wear them year round at work - even if I need to drive there in snow gear. Definitely not a dressy shoe but the shoe you have in the video is outdated…today the shoes come in different colors, materials, and designs. My sperrys have no laces and 1000% comfortable.
