    I'm thinking of buying a baritone, so I can do something a little like this. I'm obsessed with simple harmonic intervals. Mingus is my #2 favorite of all time. This sounds really nice!

    If you do more of these videos, you should mark four spots on the floor, with tape. Stand on one spot, for each separate track, but leave the mic/gain exactly in the same place. It'll add a lot of depth/space, especially if you use a stereo pair, like an ORTF setup, or binaural. Actually, you could mark 8 spots, and double track everything, LOL. You get the idea.

  • @Mooresax1

    @Mooresax1

    8 ай бұрын

    It's a neat idea for sure, but I don't know if it's worth all the extra work in the long run. It's very hard to balance and tune to a recording of yourself, so I end up doing a bit of editing after no matter what. Results sound a lot better, even though there's that artificial aspect to it. I did do that with the videos for a while (about 4 years ago), however. It's an interesting sight to see 8 of yourself in one room!

  • @hxhdfjifzirstc894

    @hxhdfjifzirstc894

    8 ай бұрын

    @@Mooresax1 Ah, you mean it's harder to balance your dynamics and pitch, when tracking that way? Oh, I just noticed you're not monitoring through headphones!?! Did you actually play all 4 parts of this, just by charts and a metronome, or something? I.e. you can't hear your other tracks, while playing? I'm probably the only one who likes the 'one mic' technique, nowadays... although there is a channel that does some great recordings that way, with an AEA R88 (which is a stereo ribbon mic). I'll try to find one of your older videos like that.

  • @Mooresax1

    @Mooresax1

    8 ай бұрын

    I record audio and video separately. I have headphones and a click track when doing audio, video I have speakers off screen. Logistically, it saves me a lot of time to just sit in one place for 30-60 minutes to record everything, and then the video can be whatever I want. I do a lot of editing in post for just intonation and very precise rhythmic timing. Most of these arrangements I wouldn't know how to balance to a single gain mic. I don't really practice/prepare the parts before recording, so I'd end up having to edit a lot anyways and probably lose the entire impact of having that singular mic. Mix isn't great (didn't really know what I was doing), but here's an old recording where the video has me all in one room. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pWtky9KPZ7LbYqg.html

  • @Mooresax1

    @Mooresax1

    8 ай бұрын

    Yes. I have a few third stream compositions: Until Dawn Breaks, Beyond The Depths, Responsive Echo fit best that I can think of off hand. Arrangement wise, check out some of the larger saxophone choir stuff. Especially Day 24 of all 3 Christmas seasons. There's probably a bit of third stream stuff in my Christmas arrangements, just the nature of the project year after year.

    Does it take you many takes to put together things like this? I know if I tried i'd spend far too long trying to get the perfect take! also I noticed you arnt wearing headphones, how do you play so well in time without listening back to the track?

  • @Mooresax1

    @Mooresax1

    2 жыл бұрын

    It's a long process to get this done. I record audio first to a click track, usually 1-2 takes. After that's recorded, I spend a few hours editing the track to sound like I want it (a lot of fixing timing and tuning). After that's done, I record the videos with the click track playing out of speaker playing off screen, so it looks like I'm playing it live without headphones, but I'm really just miming it for the video.
