NEW INSANE HARD Euphonium Solo "The King's Gambit" by Matonizz. Sheet Music Play Along

Музыка

Happy Monday Family! We have a Brand New amazing Euphonium Solo with Piano for you today, "The King's Gambit" by yours truly. This piece was commissioned by Fabien Décaillet as a gift for his newborn son, Alexis. "The King's Gambit" is aimed at including elements of modern progressive style alongside a more standard virtuosic euphonium style commonly featured in traditional euphonium repertoire. The compositional style focuses on complex and highly syncopated rhythmical grooves with a minimalist harmonic style, found in modern-day rock and pop music. The piece demonstrates extreme range, finger dexterity, coordination of multiple-tonguing techniques, flexibility, and breath control which are normally expected in academic repertoire.
The game (and the piece) is divided into three major sections which correlate to stages and specific moves in a chess match.
1) Opening: 1.e4 e5 2.f4...
2) Middlegame, including Queen Sacrifice (cadenza section)
3) Endgame
The overarching design of the piece is shown in the interplay between the euphonium and the piano. In the early stages of the piece (the game), the piano trade blows, but everything shifts at the Queen Sacrifice with the euphonium taking dominance in the game. The Endgame plays out the euphonium’s attaining a position so strong that Checkmate# is inevitable.
Included with the piano score are parts for Solo Euphonium in treble and bass clefs.

I listened to this arrangement more than 20 times by now, just to be able to grasp every detail of it. As a brass player myself, i don't want to use the word talent here, as it would be an insult to the sheer determination and training you put in to reaching THAT level. The clockwork like precision while playing the fast passages, every movement you and your instrument make has purpose and nothing is random, the movement through the registers and you deliver the slow passages with such clarity, that is virtuous playing, i knew i was in for a ride hearing that jump at bar 20. Thank you so much for letting us witness this brilliant piece and playing

As much as I would love to pick it up again, I have far too many commitments, but it is so wonderful being able to listen to someone as talented as yourself. I played for almost ten years in concert and marching. It brings me great warmth and nostalgia hearing such a mastery of what I aspired to be in my younger days. Learning to read music is something I will always hold near to my heart and taught me such an appreciation for the nonverbal language. Thank you for sharing!

Can see your point there, maybe not so much in harmony but in use of technique and wild rhythmical figure :) Glad you enjoyed it Jakob!

I've played the trombone since 6th grade and now I'm a sophomore on high-school who just learned the euphonium two months ago. I'm excited to see where that goes!

The euphonium is easily one of the most difficult instruments to learn and master because of its versatility. There is no wind instrument that compares to the demanding efforts of the euphonium. I mean listen. The range and dexterity sounds insane compared to most other wind instruments.
