The Best Barbell For A Home Gym. Rogue Ohio Power Bar Review
Спорт
Rogue's Ohio Power Bar is my wife's and my favorite barbell. Does that make it the best barbell for a home gym? We all have our wants, needs, and budget, but given the choice, this is the bar I'd recommend to most people.

@Basement Brandon hello Brandon I brought a Bells of Steel product. I call them and email them. They never call me back this product doesn't fit my Bells system and I brought from them?
Excellent review and just ordered one from Rogue as well as the Rogue trap bar to get back into shape. Also have new dumb bell set coming.
Bought the Rogue OPB in full stainless and no regrets, I love it.
Love the pup. Great review. Thanks
The OPB knurling is literally perfect. I have the E-Coat and will someday upgrade to the Stainless Steel
One other OPB variant for those who work out in tight spaces: The Rogue stump bar is an OPB with shorter sleeves. It has the same great gnurling of the OPB, has the same size shaft, but is easy to maneuver in a tight basement gym. Plus, with a thin enough plate, you can still put well over 300 lbs on it (Rogue says 500, but they must be using competition plates or some such).

I use my 25mm, 180 cm (5'11") 15 lb bar from the Norwegian sports outlet XXL for most exercises. It's my first barbell, I have a lot of weight for it, and it can handle over 500 lbs. And it really can. Heaviest I've gone on it is 383.6 lbs (174 kg), bar included, and there's never been any thought of it breaking. It fits a lot better than my Rogue OHPB where I lift, and it's nice. I do use the power bar for deadlifts, because it means standard ROM, calibrated lifts, and I just prefer it. It's also better for grip, since the shaft on my other bar is just 25mm. I'm going to start doing static holds after my deadlifts for grip strength. Probably start with 140 kg or thereabouts. I also own a 5 foot olympic bar that's rather cheap, and I don't really use it. I will eventually, and it'll be good for my kids to use once I have those, but despite its mighty 30mm shaft diameter, it's just not as good as a "standard" barbell for me.
I would LOVE to get my hands on one of these, but of all the homegym equipment I want to buy, another barbell ranks relatively low. My boring Rep Saber bar that I got in the middle of 2020 (because NOTHING else was available) has been treating me well. If I ever decide to get another (gotta start filling up a gun rack sometime), this would probably be the one I go with. Good review!
I have used the OPB, but for me the elitefts power bar is my go to and has been for 4 years now. I mostly watch your channel for the innuendo. Keep it up!

Thanks for the matte black testing! Rogue decided to take my cb-4 back (finally). Outside of powercleans and barbell complexes, I don’t use straight bars anymore. Otherwise an OPB would be high on my list. I no longer use my ohio or chan bar because the knurling is lame (fringe sport hybrid to the rescue! Crazy. Not a statement I ever thought I would say) My issue is damn near every rogue specialty bar is coming with the matte black sleeves exclusively or with a very expensive option (like stainless … looking at you mg4cn). Before I found the fringe hybrid, I was considering a second chan for supersets. The sleeve experience on the cb-4 prevented it. (My chan is chrome sleeves). Anyway, great review! Glad to see the sleeve isn’t a universal problem.
Thing of beauty
I love both of the opb’s I have had. I actually grabbed that stainless shaft/prop matte black sleeve version due to your post. The stainless shaft with that knurling is 👌, but that matte black sleeve was super sticky on my plates, it’s calmed down since I coated the sleeves with plate shavings😅 great review y’all!

My bar came with pits on the sleeves and the sleeves aren't asymmetrical on the shaft. It was one of the november bars which came out with lots of issues out the gate for a lot of folk. Irregular scratch marks for stainless steel finish, pits on shaft and sleeves.
I love my SS power bar. I got it from your link on Black Friday. I think it was 225, which was a steal for stainless steel. My black sleeves are wearing off a little like yours, but I dont really care. I like the look, it shows I use it. It's my favorite bar.

My favorite is the Rep Deep Knurl EX all stainless steel. It is my favorite because it is only the 2nd bar I have ever owned and my last one was a 25yr old Weider that came with a 245# plate set. I cannot believe the grip difference on this bar. It becomes one with your hand. The finish is amazing and the craftsmanship is stunning. Obviously these opinions come from a man who has 2 barbells. Do you have any experience with this bar and how does it stack against the Rogue Ohio Power bar? Thank you.
I have a Texas Power Bar, Ohio Power Bar, and a Texas Deadlift Bar. All are Cerakoted. The Ohio Power Bar knurling is nonexistent and it never gets used in our home gym. The Texas Power Bar knurling is awesome and it gets the hell beat out of it (think pin press, rack pulls, etc) without getting damaged. I do have a Rogue CB-4 and it has good knurling.

ISF Power Barbell is a good bar. The Elitefts Power Bar (old version) was my first power barbell (sharp knurl) The Westside Power Bar 2.0 is a must, the knurl is better than the OPB in my opinion.

I also enjoyed using the Westside 2.0 when I was going to a gym that had one.
Rogue Westside Powerbar hands down best
I have both the Ohio Power Bar in Stainless and the Ohio Bar in Black Oxide. With Black Oxide you get a little protection but it does not fill in the knurling. I love the OPB for everything except deadlifts and I use my OB for that. Even with the more passive knurling, I feel I can get a better grip because of the slightly smaller shaft. That is why I do not understand all the hate the Texas Power Bar gets for being 28.5mm. IMO, the slightly slimmer shaft along with the more aggressive knurling are the main benefits of that bar. The only reason I went with the OPB over the TPB is that I hate the pinned collars. I feel the snap ring design most other companies use is far superior to the pinned collars used by Texas Power Bars.

Your talking cadence reminds me of a heartbeat on an ekg machine.
Love Rogue Fitness, but I absolutely can't stand the zip sound loading plates. So a no on an Ohp. Got Rep stainless steel v2 power bar because of the smooth sleeves. Good review.
I regret buying the cerakote finish of the OPB because the knurl is almost non existent. I was concerned about rust but in hindsight I would have bought the stainless steel version.
I’d stay away from the rogue Cb-4 till they figure out their bent sleeves problem 😅 great bar,bad sleeves and bad customer service in my experience…. They first acknowledge that my bar was out of spec and bent and we’ll be sending a replacement, but then three hours later sent me an email saying they will not be replacing it because the replacement bars are basically the same/also bent leaves. They actually refused to give me any sort of credit or discount on my next barbells so I am a bit disappointed. They already have a bunch they are selling on the boneyard, so I was hoping at least to get that price but no dice.
I'm surprised how how tight lipped Rogue is about the propriety matte black finish. I have the stainless/black standard Ohio Bar. As near as I can tell, it looks like a nitrided finish- which is really common in the firearms industry (along with Cerakote). It's not a coating or finish, really, but a surface conversion process where the metal is placed in a bath of molten salt and nitrogen, then heated to 750-1050 degrees. This lets nitrogen and carbon penetrate the surface and converts it into a harder and more corrosion resistant material. When polished, it takes on an even matte black appearance.
How does the OPB compare with the StrengthCo Corps Power Bar??
Thoughts on t heir new hybrid bar?

I may pick it up because I'd like to see the 2x aggro knurl. The tighter tolerances is nice but isn't going to change performance
Had all of them. Texas for me
I like my Rogue Ohio bar for the feel. The zinc oxide bar is irregularly faded and looks kinda bad but its just cosmetic. The ribbing on the collars is a poor design though as it rips material from my weight plates and makes a mess of black rubber coating and the sound is annoying.
I bought the rogue ohio power bar in stainless based on this review, I assume the bar is good, over the last 2 weeks they sent the wrong bar twice so I have no idea if its as good as you say it is. The quality wasnt bad on the 20k ohio bar they sent me or the black zinc power bar though.
What about the Rep EX Power Bar?
There is a reason why the gym that I go to uses rogue Ohio bars on every bench and squat rack there is in the gym.

No issues here but I just got the updated version with the improved tolerances. Awesome upgrade over a b & r 2.0 I used for 3 years. Got it last week for birthday and now have used it for bench press, rows, ohp, and deadlifts. See no reason why it couldn’t be the one bar for all these lifts (plus squats but I use a SSB due to shoulder mobility issues). Could have done sharper I think but had no way to try before buying.
Rogue SS OPB is what gets me out of bed every day 😬
Looks like the new Hybrid bar should have been a OHP 2.0... better knurl (2x like you said), better build tolerance, better bushings, and F10-R rating... highest ever from Rogue for the length, and it's SS. It could have been perfect... but no, it's a 28.5.... and no silly monster or black coating where the shaft should be smooth on your shins.

I lift everyday with the Midas bar from Fringe and I love it. I could lift with the Ohio Power bar and I don't think I could tell U the difference and IMO, if someone disguised 5 power bars and I gave 5 people 3 sets with each bar, I guarantee they could not tell U which bar was which or the difference in the bars. U and Basement Brandon could but Most of us would be guessing with the answers on every bar. They say I got to have a Center Knurl for my Power bar, oh my gracious. If a guy has 300lbs., 400lbs., or 500 lbs. on his back, a 6 inch center knurl is not gonna be the reason he completes the lift or crashes and burns. Matter of fact with a shirt on he couldn't even tell U if it had a center knurl or not. LOL funny but true Midas bar to my door $321 Ohio power bar with cerakote just like the Midas has to my door $430 Got Midas on black friday sale I do believe though Ohio bars and OPB are the friendliest priced items Rogue offers.
I know U have the Midas bar, go ahead and jump on it as your new favorite with me at least until Rogue opens it's eyes and starts sending U free stuff just like they do for Coop at GGR.
Definitely more zip on the proprietary matte black
I love the Ohio Powerbar, but i would use the Eleiko if i was a man a means.
Can I have your insight on this? I've had the bare steel ohio power bar for 7 months and I've never done anything to maintain it ever. It works perfectely fine so I don't really see the point in oiling and brushing it. What will happen if I don't maintain it for longer?
@GlucksGym
Жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have a pretty good climate. It will probably develop some surface rust over time just from your skin and chalk and moisture getting in there. My Ohio deadlift for example you can definitely tell where I grip it because that's where the rust formed first. I maintain it but probably not enough but it still is functionally fine.
@martystrasinger3801

FWIW, at one point I had a very well used (from a commercial gym that closed) York raw steel bar, probably made in the 70s or 80s. It had a beautiful dark bronze-like surface patina. I would wipe it down every couple of months with a little 3n1 oil. Was still in great shape when I donated it, other than the knurling had gotten pretty tame.
"Actually," 🤓 I'm thinking about buying a second bar and it might be the Ohio Power Bar. I've used it at meets and at powerlifting gyms. For Crossfit style workouts I'd take the less aggressive knurling and lack of center knurl. So the Ohio Bar, not the power unless your main barbell lifts are squat, bench, and deadlift.
Bare steel in my country has same price with stainless steel in Usa. This is sad.
So I just purchased a all stainless Ohio Power Bar and when I checked it with my magnet it didn’t stick to the sleeves (which is what I expected from stainless) but it did stick to the bar. Concerned they sent me the wrong bar, I reached out to Rogue and they said that was normal due to a stainless alloy. Was wondering if your stainless does the same?
@martystrasinger3801

They likely use a different type stainless for the shaft than the sleeves. Some stainless types are magnetic, some not. They can have very different amounts of iron, carbon, chromium, nickel and possibly other metals in the alloy.

Depends on preferences, but I prefer the Texas bars over Rogue. I have their full set as well as several Rogue bars and I would have to respectfully disagree with Gluck about quality. Texas bars are very high quality and have been used as the standard in lifting events for decades. If I could only have one bar, it would be the Texas Power Bar. The black zinc Texas bar has just the right amount of aggressive knurl for me. My wife prefers the cerakote OPB because the knurl isn't quite as aggressive. Hope this helps.
Curious with the new TPB 29mm out, if you still feel this way, or if you feel that bar is a contender. Obviously no stainless, but I've been reading a lot of people ditching their stainless OPB for the 29 TPB.
@GlucksGym

If you like very aggressive knurling you may like it but I don't love the Aggro 3x for that very reason. Feels sharp for the sake of being sharp and we have their 28.5, deadlift, and 29mm. There's some personal preference with knurling and I love their history but it's still a TPB. Loose tolerances, not as many finish options, and my 29mm TPB had a ton of metal shavings in the knurling that took awhile to clean out and I'm still not convinced they'll kick out consistent knurling. I find Rogue's Hybrid to be a great bar (especially vs a 28.5 TPB) if you want aggressive (Aggro 2x) without dicing your hands up but even that is probably too much for most people though the tolerances are incredible.
