Rogue Weightlifting Bars Explained

Спорт

Rogue Athlete Matt Chan explains the differences between the Rogue Bar, the Ohio Bar, the Ohio Power Bar, the Matt Chan Bar, the Oly Training Bar and the Olympic Weightlifting Bar. In this video we break down the details that separate our signature barbells - diameter, strength, whip, knurling, bushing vs. bearings and application.

I donated an Ohio Power Bar to my local YMCA as the regular barbells were low quality and bowing badly. People thank me all the time and say it is their favorite bar. Amazing quality for a great price.

Nice video, what about the Cerakote bars ? Also about the bushing vs. bearing design, does it really make a difference in the spin ? Maybe only in the longevity of the bar ? One could also argue that the 1mm difference in diameter of some bars would make the grip effort easier (28mm) or harder (29mm). Anyway for a classical garage use I think that all those bars are suitable.

  • @charlesfisher3983

    @charlesfisher3983

    5 жыл бұрын

High whip bars are good for deadlifting and the Olympic lifts because they allow you to maximize speed off the floor. They do this by bending, which means the middle of the bar moves upward before the full weight is off the floor. That means the lifter is past the hardest point of the lift before he or she feels the full weight in his or her hands. Spin is how quickly and how long the weights spin on the sleeve of the bar, the thicker parts on the end. High spin is important in the Olympic lifts because of the collars don’t spin, the circular motion of the weights caused by the movements themselves will be transferred to the bar and the bar will spin in the lifter’s hands, potentially causing a failed lift.

spin or needle bearings, for olympic lifting. When you clean or snatch, you're rotating the bar very quickly and if the sleeves don't rotate then you would be fighting to spin the weight plates. So the spin allows the weight plates to stay put and the shaft to spin independently from the sleeve and plates. Whip helps with oly lifting also, with the clean. The plates stay on the ground longer allowing you to be more upright before taking the full load and then allowing the bar to slingshot up. Also helps with the push jerk split, using the momentum by bouncing it up.

An olympic bar wont have a center knurl (so it wont grip the back of your shirt very well (which is an issue particularly for people who squat low bar) and will have a bunch of whip which is annoying when you load the bar up - but you probably won't notice particularly until there is 4 or more plates on the bar. So, to conclude, you can use one but it will be less than ideal.

  • @steventhunander9447

sigurd2498 if you are using it and are not a competitive powerlifter, you will be fine. Elite Oly lifters use their Oly bars for deadlifting and squatting and they deadlift and squat well over 500lbs on it. However, if you feel the need, get a Rogue Bar 2.0 as well as the Oly bar so you have two bars for metcon work, and a bar you can rack without guilt.

AFTER 20 YEARS...TEN OF INTENSIVE USE)..... im not afficionados of dual mark bars ....its really not interresting...personnally if i was USA resident i buy a Euro WL bar for Oly-L and Ohio power bar for "big 3".....(im in France and i own ELEIKO COMPETITION for Oly and PALLINI IPF BARBELL...BOTH ARE CERTIFIED..(PRICE AFFRAID BUT WITH 2 SPECIFICS BARS ITS DECADES OF SERENITY).... I love ROGUE to.but in France its rare . My critic is against dual marks....(Eleiko or Rogue is not problem)...problem is : 1) for bench and Back Squat i love a very rigid bar withouth whip(for D-L i can use a whippy bar if grip is good...but i dont prefer)...... 2) for snatch i can use rigid bar(if spin is good) but for Clean Jerk..I NEED OF ALL MY SOUL A ULTRA WHIPPY BARBELL...For absorb clean enrrgy and manage spring effect at jerk....IF A BAR IS GOOD FOR C/J....how use it for heavy back squats or Bench..???? If a bar is good in Bench or Squat.. how you can clean it....(at 425/440 lbs its a TORTURE...Geneva convention should forbidden that)

190K PSI??? how about 190KSI. K is a kip (1000 lbs) so this is saying 190,000 lbs lbs per in^2. Nothing worse than talking about the strength of something when you don't know what you're talking about. Talking about mechanics of materials here people.

It means if you took a piece of the same steel of 1 sq inch cross section, it would take you 190000 lbs of force to tear it apart.

Sandarpan Correct, but he said 190k PSI, I have my Civil Engineering degree so you;re speaking my language when it comes to steel. But it should be KSI not K*PSI. That's just stupid. You are correct. He is not.

  • @Sandarpan

Yeah but 190k could be used to described 190000. Chemical Engineer here. I have seen the terms kpsi and ksi used interchangeably. Also this isn't the SI system so I'm not sure if any of the usual rules apply here. Anyway I highly doubt Matt Chan has an engineering degree. :)

***** nothing is wrong with pounds per square inch. A Kip (K) is 1,000 lbs. So you would say Ksi if you wanted to say 1,000 lbs per square inch. if you say 190K PSI then that means (1,000 lbs * lbs) / in^2 or 1,000 lbs^2/in^2 which just wrong. Lbs are not squared. I was being nit picky to begin with but if you're going to advertise something and brag about it you might as well say it right. Either 190,000PSI or 190KSI. Clear as mud?

***** Yeah but the static bending strength has a strong correlation with the dynamic strength. What I mean is that you can rest assured that a bar which is rated for 1500 lbs is also dynamically weaker than a bar rated for 3000 lbs. But then again 1500 lbs is not the force at which the bar snaps. It is the strength that the company is willing to guarantee. For the past one year I have intensively researched barbell construction and have even come up with a few of my own designs based on the popular snap ring design.

The strength of the steel will not effect the whip of the bar unless it's so low that the bar bends.. The change in whip would be from change in bar diameter

QUESTION TO THE ENGINEERS: Can someone scientifically explain the term "WHIP" to me? I have not been able to find anything meaningful on this subject so far. How is the supposedly noticeable difference between the deflection of the barbells during lifting to be achieved? I learned that the bending stiffness, i.e. the resistance of the bar to elastic deformation, depends only on the youngs modulus and the moment of inertia. Bending stiffness = E x I. Since the youngs modulof different steel grades or alloys shows virtually no variability and the moment of inertia of a barbell can only be changed by the diameter, I ask myself how a "whip" should be created?

Hey Markus, from our experience in the Weightlifting Industry we can tell you two things: 1. Whip is the word for Yield Strength... or point to where the bar bends ( stress out) and comes back to its normal state. 2. Tempering process only allows to do this. For many years, professional IWF brands such as Eleiko and Uesaka created bars under a very unique Steel. Now Rogue and probably couple other brands in the world could get to that point. Is not good to say a bar is over "210.000" PSI when the steel havent been tested through Rockwell and the Tempering process. We hope this helps.

Kotally Savage Yeah I have a cheap bar that was 180 called The Beast I believe by cap which Is great. But I bought a cap barbell from sears sometime ago for 90 dollars. The first day I tried to squat with it I failed a 315 squat and I dropped it on the safety's and it bent 90 degrees.

That fat asian kid wow that's fucked up. How could it bend if it landed on the safety's tho? Like the distance between them is larger than on your back so it should theoretically bend on your back and not on the safety's

Kotally Savage I was squatting and at this time I didn't really have my squat form down. I basically dive bombed and on the way up I lost my balance and slipped forwards. I fell close to the top of the squat that's why it bent.
