Thanks for the in-depth review! This will be my next bar! I actually prefer a slightly more aggressive knurl as I also deadlift with my 28mm Oly bars. =O

Rogue's most expensive barbell is their Russian barbell, which I had the pleasure of training at Rogue's training hall in Ohio during AO1 this year. With that being said, my coach loves Uesaka barbell's, and at our gym we have a training Eleiko Men and women's BB. I just don't like the aggressive nature of Eleiko, and their customer service has put me off of wanting anything eleiko. Plus, with the nice "IWF" certification sticker, the Pyrros Dimas' Rogue bar makes it all that much sexier. We mostly use Rogue's WL barbell for training, (we have 2 bushing WL, and 2 Bearing WL BB) for men's. One reason why I don't like the free spinning barbell is when you're performing a C&J, or even a snatch, imagine that when you catch the snatch at the bottom, the inertia generated by the spin is gonna put you off balance at the bottom position, that may lead to a miss lift, or a press out (which is another miss lift anyways). Same with a clean and jerk. When you catch the clean and stand it up. You don't want to be waiting forever for the bar to stop spinning to go for your jerk. If you catch it properly, you may pass out because the bar will cut off your wind pipe at heavy weight! Again, you want the bar to be as stable as possible, not free spinning during your movement. Sure, it may help on the clean, but going into the jerk, you don't want to miss the lift because of the barbell spin! plus, all domestic (US) major weightlifting competition (AO series, Nationals, etc.) are all using Rogue Pyrros Bars. Even the warmup area uses training bars! But I would like to go to the boneyard and pick up a couple of the EU bars for $250!!!! jeezus!

i am looking at the eleiko competition barbell and the rogue pyrross barbell. i like the stainless steel sleves and shaft of the pyros barbell, however the eleiko name and fact its used at all olympic competitions has me confused. which would you choose if money wasnt an issue? go with pyros stainless steal or eleiko which is chrome.

Trying to decide between this and the regular OLY WL bar. I like the idea of a more controlled spin, but worried about the more aggressive knurling. Do you find the knurling on this one too aggressive? I know it depends on how on it’s used, but I do tend to see a number of recent reviews saying it’s too aggressive, and is better suited for big singles. I wouldn’t be using it for high reps, but I primarily would be doing Oly complex/EMOM style rep schemes.

For emom and interval type the knurling is good on the hands and a little rough on the thigh position. The knurling is fine for the hands which is the biggest part. (Not sharp but slightly tack-y)

What do you mean by chrome sleeves and oxidation on plates? Is it better to have chrome sleeves than stainless steel sleeves?

  • @jamestonbellajo

    @jamestonbellajo

I think he was comparing chrome more to bare steel. Since you don’t touch the sleeves, there’s less oxidation potential so stainless steel sleeves are overkill, but bare steel sleeves may be too weak to protect against oxidation that comes from metal to metal contact from loading plates. Basically, chrome is a happy medium between bare steel and stainless steel.

I've used Uesaka, Eleiko competition WL bar and Rogue WL bar. U, E's spin are way more controlled than Rogue. Maybe the Pyrros bar is what a competition WL bar should be.

Huang winiel559 that’s basically what they were going for. Pyrros is supposedly a big Uesaka fan and this bar is pretty similar to my U.competition bar.

I notice quite a lot of barbells I've used have that annoying clang and rattle when dropped. I don't know the model names, but I do recall using a Eleiko and American Barbell barbell that had no clang and rattle when dropped. Have you had the same experience with barbells you've reviewed? Do you happen to know what it is about the barbell that causes this? Any advice is appreciated 😁

Tolerances the the answer your question. High end barbells have better tolerances- Eleiko and uesaka are best and rogue pyrros is basically in the same ballpark

I have never bought a bar like that by myself, but I am fascinated by the Pyrrsos bar because of the way it's made as well as it's stainless, durable character. Now what would you say what should it be used for? Is it pure competition material, or could you have it for your training as well, so that you have one universal tool?

I have a Eleiko Powerlock bar, which has the same knurling as the Eleiko IWF Training bar ("Aggressive" according to Eleiko, so 1 level sharper than the Performance bar) and I have the Rogue regular Olympic weightlifting bar. It sounds like the Pyrros bar knurling is more aggressive than the regular Rogue Oly bar, but less aggressive than the Eleiko? Or did I misundertand?

  • @AMRAP

What is the difference between the ROGUE PYRROS BAR - 28MM - STAINLESS STEEL and ROGUE OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFTING BAR - STAINLESS STEEL? And is the stainless steel sleeves worth the extra $100?

  • @AMRAP

Pyrros bar has more aggressive knurling and they put a heavier grease into it to keep it from spinning as much. And no, SS sleeves are not worth the money.

Between the pyrros bar and the rogue training barbell which would you recommend for home gym training? I don’t compete nor can lift heavy and will do Olympic lift sometimes as I am new to these lifts. I heard bearing is the best but will I know the difference?

If you’re just looking to get your feet wet in oly, I would just go with the training bar and save some money. Bearing is better for oly but spin is just overrated in general - also the pyrros spins about as well as the training bar would using loads under about 100kg.
