R4 cards work on the 2ds now so don't even need to worry about DS cartridges. The moment he says he never plays the Miyoo Mini but it's always in his bag is the foremost reason that you should get a Nano or a Pixel. Because having it in your bag is not as convenient as having it in your pocket. Even if the bag is with you constantly, having to bring it in front of you, rifle through it for the handheld, retrieve the handheld, close up the bag and then place it back in your shoulder is enough time that I would already be a minute into Dragon Quest 3 on the Nano. And when you only have minutes potentially to play, you end up leaving Mega Man in a perpetual frozen state, glad it's there is you ever get a solid half hour of free time but it's never convenient. I've finished A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Symphony of the Night on the Nano, all with idle minutes that I'd normally just be on my phone instead. He made the argument better than I could. A Nano in the pocket is with 2 Miyoos in the bag.

So i have the RG35XX (thanks to your amazing reviews) running on Garlic, and I'm convinced there isn't sleep modes or suspending games exactly. But instead powering up a game from sleep/ suspension is just the handheld instantly loading a save state of the game that auto saved as you suspended it/ entered sleep mode and therefore isn't actually suspending games in the background. That might be why your mega man was still able to play from suspension after so long. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong c:

I’m kinda starting to lean towards micro-handhelds over “pocketable” ones like the Miyoo Mini or RG35XX. If I wanna do any serious gaming in the go, I’ll take my RP2 or just bring my Switch. And for quick little bite size rounds of gaming I feel the RG Nano or the Funkey is way more convenient because it’s literally the size of a tomogachi. It's also a clamshell that is a comfortable size in the hand. And, while the firmware is nothing amazing, the MiyooCFW project (the name was less confusing before the Miyoo mini was released) has recently managed to put together a 2.0 beta that's completely open source instead of just mixing and matching binaries, which means it should be easier to support long-term.

I have atleast 100+ games on both my fun key s and they are very fun and pretty comfortable for how small they are but my mind was blown when PlayStation games worked on them and the only downside is not all PlayStation or n64 games work if they need a L2-R2 or stick but other then that playing initial d and other titles are super fun.

Has Wulff den done any videos about the everdrive? Debating whether to buy one and not sure if they are worth it or not. There are at least 3 everdrives I'd be interested in, the n64, gba, and snes everdrives. If he hasn't done a video on those yet I'd love to see one

(My quick review of the FunKey S, feel free to ask me questions) I have the FunKey S, and I absolutely love it as a super portable game device. I have big hands, and it's not "too" small to use as long as you're dexterous (Though I do enjoy making miniatures and models). I love the folding screen, and it plays just about everything pretty damn well, even many Playstation games. I play Spyro on it just fine. Yoshi's island runs perfect on it. The colors, brightness, and screen quality are great as well. Also, it can hold your saves just fine, there's not only the sleep function of closing the screen closed and opening it back up (which normally works fine), but also there's three save features. There's the "resume" function of going back to the home screen, playing a different game, then going back to the previous game and picking up right where you left off. There's the menu save feature, where you open up the system menu and create a save state (you can have multiple per game), and there's also in-game saving. The in-game saving almost always works, but if you want to be extra careful, do a save state as well, so you have a backup. All of this makes it so you never lose data. I've played mine for quite a long time, and never lost any data (when it wasn't my fault). It has quite a wide array of emulators to use, and so far I haven't had any of them struggle to run anything. I even ran Twisted Metal on the Playstation emulator pretty much just fine. The battery life is also pretty surprisingly long despite the small size, though duration of play will vary slightly based on intensity of what you're playing, like NES, SNES, Gameboy vs Playstation. Gameboy games, GameGear games, and older console games like NES and SNES (among others) last for quite a while before needing charging again. There's a LOT to love about the tiny Powerhouse of a system. There's only two downsides I can possibly think of. 1) There's L and R buttons, but for Playstation you'll need to set up a macro button combo to do L2 and R2. It can be a little finicky, I would have preferred some tiny buttons on the bottom or perhaps further in behind the L and R, but it's not impossible, and if you're not playing Playstation games or any Playstation games that need those L2R2 buttons (there's many that don't) then it's fine. 2) The sound is slightly quiet, though louder than a Gameboy Color. But even then, for the size, the sound quality is actually pretty amazing, but if you're in a loud restaurant or something, you might not hear too much. In quiet, or out in public and in most places, you'll hear everything just fine, and in a nice quiet area there's no sound trouble at all. Just be warned that it won't get "super" loud due to the speaker being about half the size of a dime. Still, despite how tiny the speaker is, I was still pretty shocked by the sound quality and how loud it could get (after a side by side comparison, I'd say it's about 110-130% the max volume of a Gameboy Color, so the FunKey is a bit louder). But it's something to be aware of, if you like blasting your sound and annoying others around you, you won't quite be able to do that with the FunKey. The quality is good. Compared to a Gameboy Color speaker, the Funkey S is a bit louder, and the Gameboy speaker has a bit of a Hollow sound due to the resonance of the plastic shell, while the Funkey speaker is a bit more "tinny" from the speaker betting pretty open, but plays midi (and normal sound) quite well for the size. Neither is objectively superior to the other, it's a trade, but not a bad one. Most wouldn't even notice without having them next to each other. Overall, if you enjoy miniatures, or small things, or if you want something extremely portable that fits anywhere like in a suit pocket without ruining the lines of the fabric, or a tiny purse, etc., and want something that you don't need a case for to protect the screen (though they DO sell cases), I definitely suggest the Funkey S. It's much more powerful than I thought it would be, and aside from the L2 and R2 stuff you'll have to figure out (which really only effect some Playstation games, since it's the only system that uses those buttons) I think it's just about the most perfect hyper-portable device I could ask for right now.

As a fellow Funkey S haver and enjoyer, I can echo all these. It's definitely not what you want to use as your main emulation device (assuming you want a "main" device"), but it's absolutely great to just pull out and play whenever you have time. The autosave when you close the screen and it turns off and autoload when you open is amazing, I can open the screen, it powers itself on, and I'm in my game in just a few seconds, even PS1 games. You can truly just pull it out, play for a few mins, and close it, whenever you need it. It's definitely better with slower paced games, I have played a bit of PS1 tony hawk which runs well, but it's a little hard with the small controls (and I have small hands). But I always bring it with me and it's just nice to have all the time. Plus, even though it does feel fragile, I don't worry about the screen because it's covered when it's flipped down. The biggest downside for me is that it uses Micro USB to charge rather than Type C, but that's a minor nitpick.

@@zalyster Absolutely, it's a perfect little super portable device, glad you enjoy it. I feel like it needs more recognition. I try to suggest it to anyone who likes small fun things or needs something that is a bit more portable and low profile than other handhelds. (Also, just be extra careful because closing the screen isn't an "auto-save", it's a rest mode. If it's been a while or something, sometimes you can open it up and it will go to the home screen. So be sure to do a quick little save state before closing it each time just to be sure, so you don't lose any progress. The rest mode normally works just fine, but on very rare occasion it can go to the home screen instead.)

The funkey loses out to the nano in every way except for the clamshell. Same processor and screen. The nano has a solid metal case, better non-clicky buttons, no flimsy hinge, a real dpad, usb-c (not micro USB), mounts as an external USB drive, and comes with a headphone adapter cable. and the nano is half the price of the funkey, less than $45 now. the drum78 cfw and retrofe UI are great for both models.

Have you ever talked about emulation on a switch lite? I see them used in my local classifieds for about $100 and I wonder if it’s better than saving up a couple more bucks and getting some other portable console that you’ve reviewed.
