I'm not a fan of colored tattoos. They fade too much imo. They look amazing when they're fresh, and then they just look dull when they're healed. Don't get me wrong, they still look pretty good. It's just ridiculous how much they fade.

Yep. I got a tattoo a few years ago now, on my thumb/hand. It's just linework, of a 'sketched' rose, with the word 'wonder' in the stem. I designed it, and the artist said he'd need to change it a bit to give it more space. I said okay, and years later, it looks pretty good. Some lines are getting a bit close, but it's still plenty readable, for the size it is. The top part/pedals of the rose is less than a square inch in size. So, considering the size, it looks really good.

I really like the well-healed one discussed at the 8:14 mark. I haven’t spent much of my life getting tattooed 8:14 yet because I only recently have been able to afford the kind of tattoos I want from artists whose work I like (large scale, full color, bold line work). It’s on my body forever, so I want to be happy with how the tattoos will look when healed/settled/aged. That’s honestly the first thing I consider when deciding on a tattoo: how it’ll age. I really appreciate you reviewing some posts from the agedtattoos subreddit! It’s great to hear a tattooer’s perspective.

I'm still not convinced they are the same tattoo. The image on the left has a longer dragon face and the one on the right has a major line mishap on the belly. There are other details that aren't quite the same that *might* be explained by age or slightly different camera angle but those two really bug me.

  • @joanw131

I really like the fine line tattoos where the lines get bigger and softer, as long as the design is still visible. I feel like it's either that or they fade away. And i think it's cool that the tattoo can age so much with you and still look really good

My first tattoo on the back of my calf is in that neo traditional style. It definitely was very popular at the time. I was 18 and I got a huge anchor and rose and diamond with a bunch of bright colors. It’s a little cringy when I really think about it lol. It hasn’t aged that poorly all things considered. I got it done in Germany by a polish guy who couldn’t speak English. I’m almost 32 and my taste has definitely changed. Most of my tattoos are American traditional. I may consider getting some of the old ones altered or covered in the future but it is what it is for now. Wish I could post a picture 😂

People!: most of these are just awful. What happened?! In the 90’s it looked like tattooing was coming up roses and that no-one would have to go with a shyty piece soon. It is said that crows can pass experience from gen to gen. Why can’t people? Too much individuality in an overcrowded world? Good vid, nevertheless. 👍
