My first comment is a quote that says, "Teach them when they are young and they will never forget." The second comment is that I practive Tsoi, Li, Hoi, Fut, Hung (Five Family). My Sifu's wife told us (the class) that our art is known as the Five Family art (San Soo) and that we must treat each other like family. She said that we must take care not to purposely hurt each other. She told us that all the other San Soo teachers have moved on to teach what Lao Sifu, Chin Siu Dek taught them and therefore we must regard teachers and students from other schools as family also because we all stem from Lao Sifu. Personally, I regard any martial artist from any art as family because we work hard at our art and our goals. We had people come from other places who did not heed Sifu's edicts and were 86'ed from our school. Among several to get 86'ed was a guy who was into MMA. He beat on students to injure them. Another was a young woman who was looking for a school who would give her a black belt in six months. She was not intrested in becoming family, she just wanted a reward that everyone else spends years towards earning such reward. I have heard numerous black belts say that earning a black belt is just the beginning. Another said you are just going back to basics in a more refined manner to refine yourself. So I paraphrase this video by saying that it takes a lifetime committment. Do not stop training.

@Baki, I’m a karate black belt 2nd dan in shotokan karate, and have taught my twins daughter’s karate since they were 15, now they are 19 and both karate black belts and love teaching especially the men ! I wonder why lol, but seriously the women at my karate dojo outnumber the men 4 to 1, many of them black belts, all women should take up karate ! don’t you agree ? oss

Great stuff Sifu! Any chance you would be able to shoot a video on the steps you took to get your daughter to the point where she is at starting at the 3 min mark? Or, is there somewhere in the kwoon online I should look? I know you mentioned in another post that you taught her basic deflections first. I'd like to start this with my children as well. Any suggestions/pointers are much appreciated!

First thanks! And actually yes, I recently talked with my oldest about helping me out with putting together a mini course if you will how to go through the steps with kids.
