5:00 How to get the benefits of an electrolyte drink
Today, we’re going to talk about the benefits of energy drinks.
In theory, energy drinks are supposed to help increase brain energy, exercise performance, and endurance. However, most energy drinks will actually cause brain fog, less exercise performance, and the ingredients will deplete the cells.
The big problem with energy drinks is that the ingredients don’t give you real energy. These drinks are composed mostly of caffeine and sugar.
Caffeine is not a fuel. It’s a stimulant. It makes you think you have energy, but really it’s just revving up your adrenal glands.
There are also crazy amounts of sugar in energy drinks, which will make you more tired and grumpy, and will make you want another energy drink. A lot of this sugar is not just glucose. It’s fructose. These drinks also contain a lot of sodium and not enough potassium.
You need to look for an energy drink that has all of the electrolytes. Electrolytes are electrically charged minerals that help to energize your cells. Potassium helps recharge the battery in your cells. Magnesium feeds the mitochondria.
If you really want to get the benefits of an electrolyte drink, make sure it has zero caffeine, zero sugar, and it’s filled with a good amount of electrolytes.

Try sugar free energy drinks or even Zevia energy drinks. If you look up sugar free energy drinks it seems to be fine in the keto community, but if you are looking for keto everything stick to just water and black coffee. Not for me, I don't like being a strict nazi on everything with every single ingredient keto friendly to a T. If I listen to dr berg in everything he says I would be homeless.
For about 10 years I was addicted to energy drinks, pre-workouts, and coffee. Most of those years I performed at a high level in everything I did. Overtime I felt myself slowly breaking down though. The last couple years I told myself it was diet and tried just about everything to get my body to recover. But it wasn't until I gave up caffeine completely that I started healing. And now I feel better than I ever did on caffeine. I know people love just regular coffee but to me, all caffeine feels like a negative return on your investment.

As a recovering fatty (nearly 400lbs) I gave up this garbage completely and now I feel so much better! Lost nearly 150lbs and I attribute most of that weight loss to giving up energy drinks! Truth! Saved my life. Thanks for sharing sir:)
Hey Doc, thanks for the video it was very informative and I'm sure its going to help me make some better choices in the future!
I began drinking energy drinks when I was a 20 years and stopped when I was 23 years old. During those 3 years I did not know why I had anxiety, or why I had difficulty recalling memories, and why my hair was thinning. Then one day I stopped drinking energy drinks and resorted to just using B12 vitamins and showering in cold water and my anxiety decreased, my memory improved, and my hair was getting thicker. I think it was the energy drinks that made me feel anxious about the insignificant things in my life which in turn made me stressed. I also had a consistent pain in my stomach while drinking energy drinks. I scheduled an ultrasound ezm to see if these was something in my body that was causing the pain and they found nothing abnormal. The pain went away after a few weeks when I quit drinking energy drinks.

Yes, most energy drinks are really bad for you. And you should probably only be drinking 1-3 a week. But I can't deny I really like the sweet/sour taste of a cold can of Monster Energy. Nothing taste quite like it, in my opinion.. Also everybody's physiology is different. So, some people can drink 3 cans a day and feel pretty normal. While others take a few sips and their whole body starts to shake lol.
I'm actually looking for ones with natural sweeteners that aren't sugar, but get their caffeine from guarana. It seems to help me focus better while I build up omega-3 for ADHD.

E Salas be carful with that , I was drinking 2-3 sugar free energy drinks a day but the caffeine eventually got to me - My digestive system sped up due to it which isn’t the worst thing but my sleeping cycle got ruined due to high caffeine as well ... plus your cortisol rises with high caffeine which is a hormone that you really don’t want much of in your body (causes shakes , breaks focus , etc). Take in energy drinks with a word of caution , as caffeine is addictive and sometimes you will find yourself drinking more sugar free energy drinks than you do water (cuz why not , they are almost 0 calories?!) which can cause even more problems . I love energy drinks , but I’ve learned they don’t love me so i shouldn’t spend much time with them anymore 😂

Very informative! Thank you! Question: How much magnesium do we need a day? And, does it matter which kind? Glycinate? L- Threonate? (?)
@AlbertKingboss
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Maggie, the RDA (recommended allowance) is 400mg but I believe you should get at least 5 mg/pound of body weight. If you stress a lot, I'd go with 7mg/pound a day. As far as supplements, you wanna avoid oxide cause you only absorb around 4% of it. Glycinate appears to be the best, it's very well absorbed and really increases your sleep quality compared to other forms. I don't wanna spam my channel but there's a really good video coming up in a few days on magnesium, it'll definitely help you decide. Hope this helps :)

Where is the meta-anaylsis? Drinks such as Monster Ultra line, Reign do not contain fructose and is sweeten with Sucralose. Doesn't spike your blood sugar like many people wrongly believe. Source? I'm diabetic. The Meta-analysis for sucralose proves its non-caloric and do not pose any risk on your "blood sugar"
So In a nutshell...the things we need the most for energy, are the ones missing in "energy" drinks..but the things that are killing our energy, are the one they put to give us "energy"! Well, that makes sense..perfect sense! Thank God I was never a fan and I wouldn't start now!

Well shoot I guess I'll just drink the one I have in the fridge and say goodbye to them Lol
Interesting video. Given the amount of sugar laden energy drinks out there, how can I make my own energy drink with the correct amount of magnesium and potassium in it. I would assume that other electrolytes would also be needed.
Very short term pick me up for long term metabolic harm. I tried redbull for cycling and hockey, cycling never helped. Hockey, it helped but sometimes over stimulated. Funny other than an Expresso for a high performance 1 hour cycling or a electrolyte mix that has a very small amount of glucose to aid absorption of electrolytes for longer rides. Plain water is still best for low to mod intensity unless it is prolonged or really hot ,
I don't think this video applies to zero carb monster energy drinks, HOWEVER, I must admit that I have had a LOT more energy this past week since I started water fasting using "snake juice" which contains a lot of magnesium and potassium. As usual, Dr. Berg hit another homerun Here is the recipe for snake juice for anyone interested: Water=2 Liters Potassium chloride =1 tsp (No Salt) Sodium chloride = 1/2 tsp (Himalayan Pink Salt) Sodium Bicarbonate = 1 tsp (Baking Soda) Magnesium Sulphate = 1/2 tsp (Food Grade Epsom Salts) There's a lot of great information about snake juice on KZread. Good luck!

@@arjanpetersen I know, it was a metafor, if you notice I put "Energy Drink" between quotes. It does have electrolytes though, and it helps the action of your energy to be conducted throughout the body; in this way, mineral is more conductive than "Energy drinks" whatsoever

Hi Dr. Berg, I would love to see a video on how to obtain the 4,700 mg of Potassium we need daily. Or is it just that 7-10 cups of vegetables will do it? Also, a video on natural flavors in products and your thoughts. Thank you so much!

A medium sized avocado has a 1000 mg of potassium. That helps. I have to supplement as I am not able to consume that many vegetables on OMAD, or even two meals. Blended kale drinks help as well. If I don't get enough potassium since doing KETO, I get restless legs. He has suggested in the past they one could supplement with Potassium Citrate. I use the powder for as tablets generally only have 99mg in them. If you can manage the 10 cups and add a whole avocado daily, that should be enough. . . . . I have a sneaky feeling you already knew this but was just making suggestions to the doc because it has been awhile since he addressed this. And I am also sure you know about the 'natural flavors' and how they hide ingredients within it. ;) Have a great day.

Teaspoon or so of Cream Of Tartar in water, it's basically pure potassium. Fairly tasteless, I just take it with a glass of water. "No Salt" will do the same.

actsfittolead thanks for your response! Yes, I find it hard sometimes to have enough appetite for 7-10 cups plus a whole avocado. Green drinks do help though to get in more greens I agree!
What about supplements like gsupps? Would love to hear about that
I graduated to Bronchaid for energy. 1/2 tab works wonders.

I try to dodge the sugar intake by getting Hi-Ball energy(it's unsweetened), but it is only sold at my local Smith's and even there it's often out of stock. I don't want to keep drinking energy drinks, but my work schedule is not conducive to sufficient amounts of sleep. I'm hoping that Hi-ball energy drinks get back into stock soon, the grapefruit one tasted horrible, but the lime one was okay and there was one other flavor I didn't try. All other energy drinks toting the "no sugar" label are artificially sweetened; I don't really trust artificial sweeteners yet.
That would have been the best sales pitch ever for your Electrolyte Powder but you didn't even mention it... Even i just went to Amazon
