To be fair, MatPat has been very open about how he and his team make videos. More than likely his Genshin theory was being written and probably edited before the information was fully available. So it's probably not that he didn't bother getting all the information, rather he was working with outdated information.

@@Enixon869 THose videos in my eyes are some of my favorites as they don't want to tell the story of the games, just A story. They are very much just entertainment and don't try to solve things, just to point out at weird and funny things that happen in the games. Not all of his theories are there to explain the plot, like the Sans is Ness theory. They are perfectly fine, _obviously Sans isn't Ness_ just like obviously Mario isn't a psychopath, they are not meant to be taken seriously. Damn the backlash from that video is one of the stupidest thing that has happened online, and the fact that Toby actually addressed that is even dumber. He even said it was stupid. I can't see a more unfun thing to do as a creator

People like MatPat've dedicated over a decade to digging out the littlest clues from the games, books, and graphic novels. And it's nuts what they've found. The lore went from newspaper clippings and Atari-style death mini-games to full-out cutscenes and books. It's insane.

Personally, my favorite fan extension of FNAF is the music that the franchise inspired in so many KZreadrs. The genre change and/or evolution from game to game was one of the first things I noticed. With the first 2 games having techno style, the 3rd game going a bit into metal, and the 4th game going into heavy metal and other genre shifts fitting each game's overall tone from artist to artist.

Like he said in the beginning, the lore/ story of Fnaf is based on theories. There are some solid facts and fanbase canonized points, but most are based on perception, theory, and time. Mattpat may be the most well known for this, but there are many others with long videos on different viewpoints on how the story unfolds. Some examples are Williams' past, the rise of Fredbear's, and many more. In conclusion, the story isn't 100% set in stone, most is, yet the rest that aren't are continuously being changed and adjusted.

  • @jakeblitzcoffie4859

    @jakeblitzcoffie4859

    8 ай бұрын

@SikerMinecraft To me, it has to take place before Fnaf 1, but then there is evidence that says it takes place right before Fnaf 3. It's very confusing. Michael needs to have gotten himself scooped before Fnaf 1, but it has to be post 1983, as Michael is a young man by the time of Sister location. It's up for debate, really. What makes even less sense is that Micheal needs to be scooped sometime close to 1987 because the Fnaf 2 location is the first location he goes to in the timeline as a rotting corpse. So he'd be like 18 or 19 at that point in time. So, Sister Location has to be around the same time as the MCI in 1985 or so. That, or it's the same year as the Bite of 87.

FYI, the art they use in this video to represent the animatronics is just using their ingame models, since there isnt any images of OG Bonnie/Chica that isnt pixelized. So they weren't having the nightmare fuel version you deal with in the games as their main attraction at the time. Presumably, they were more like, say, the Chuck E Cheese animatronics.

10:02 There was an editor's note in the video that you probably missed here because the subtitles were in the way, but they had to use the more broken down Chica model for this section because there wasn't a more in-tact version of the model from any of the games (they would have been the withered versions of the characters from the second game, so technically different ones from the one in the first game), and there's kind of this whole thing about using fan-made models without permission

Whoa...the part about the two restaurants feuding and then the original getting bought out by the copy-cat is basically a parallel to what happened to Chuck E. Cheese: it actually was outdone by its competitor Showbiz Pizza who then assumed the Chuck E. Cheese label after the former filed for bankruptcy, but because the creator of the original Showbiz animatronics held the copyright for his creations and left the company, they had to retrofit their animatronics too look like the Chuck E. Cheese characters.

Some things to be aware of: 1.MatPat does not work by himself. He has a team. And its been a long time since he shouldered the burden of the research for most things that arent his bread and butter like FNAF. If he got a theory for something wrong that "just came out" it likely means that vide was made over a week or kore ago from release. So he likely couldnt have seen this book you mentioned. 2. With FNAF he was easily the first person to theorize about it and has been doing it for over eight years. So he knows the franchise pretty well. 3. As someone who's been with FNAF since day 1 i assure you that at WORST the ultimate timeline is like 88% right and at best 92% right. Obviously new information has come out that isnt gonna be in the videos since it came out after they were made. But a serious majority is still right and accurate. 4. I look forward to you enjoying the next three parts of the Ultimate Timeline as its easily some of his best work!~

Evidence is not created equal, and some is prioritized over others. This leads to different conclusions because we can't agree on how important a piece of evidence is. 3. Such as the one that replaces William's Disney inspiration with Henry's connection to the real Atari founder, or one where it was Puppet Charlie that stuffed the kids into the suits instead of William, or more drastically, the one where Afton was just completely psychotic and made the sister location robots first specifically designed to kill kids.

As a side note, though, I should give the disclaimer that a lot of what MatPat says in this video is not confirmed. FNAF is one of those franchises that raises five questions for every one it answers, and there is a lot of room for interpretation; and a lot of the particular claims he makes in these videos (especially the stuff about William's childhood and early career) were pretty big swings that don't have a ton of evidence to them. They're definitely a fun way to look at the lore, but take them with a grain of salt.

This series of FNAF videos was made assuming the viewer knew at least the basic lore of the series, so it's gonna be a pretty overwhelming, especially in parts 2 & 3. If you haven't already finished recording this series of videos, I'd recommend watching "FNAF: Everything You Need To Know" by the KZreadr "FootofaFerret" before you continue with these. He's a former editor for Game Theory and his video was made in collaboration with Game Theory, predates this series of videos, and covers a lot of the more basic knowledge you need to understand the franchise.

If you want to see the more horror/paranormal side of Fnaf, fans have made a bunch VHS tape styled videos that are really good, and terrifying. Some of which involving completely different characters that are unrelated to Freddy and his friends. The one I know of the top of my head is by Squimpus McGrimpus.

Honestly, when it comes to introduction to FNaF Lore, the Ultimate Timeline videos arent really the ones I'd point to. I dont think they were ever meant to be a 'here's everything you need to know about the games and story' but a 'here's my understanding of the current timeline and what i'm currently working with' type of thing.

@@wastelandlegocheem yeah, and honestly, i dont mind people who have some knowledge of fnaf lote watching it. However, for newcomers, who barely know anything about fnaf lore, this can be overwhelming and skewing. FNaF Lore has lots of speculation and it would be better to show newcomers how we got to those conclusions, give them bigger overviews on old/outdated and new theories and generally introduce them slowly to this lore. Lots of characters that are iconic in the fandom are also being lost among the lore discussion as well since they're not relevant to the current story, like Phone Guy. I usually recommend people that have lots of time on their hands to watch the whole game theory fnaf playlist, because it's basically an archive of how the fandom and its theories evolved over time, along with what information was available to which time.

I mean, I understand a little bit more with the reaction to his genshin videos but I think that’s because the lore has been more planned out than a game franchise like FNAF since the creator didn’t really plan it to have an ongoing story in the first game it was just an indie horror game that was made due to him desperately trying to provide for his family because of how many of the games that he made failed. It was only meant to be a trilogy but there were a lot of times where the fans and even Scott(the creator) weren’t happy so from then on he made future games to explain where he wanted the story to go originally and clear up things from past games. Basically, at this point in time, we know the general basic concept of each game but it’s still speculative on where they fit in the timeline only with the information we’re given that are stated to be canon/official unlike genshin where the story was kept more in mind with its lore and worldbuilding so I don’t really think you can compare his fnaf videos to his genshin videos because they’re not really comparable given the circumstances behind the creation of two of these games. Besides, at the end of the day, it’s just a personal agree/disagree with MatPat’s theories because after all, they’re just theories even if his evidence might be reachy at times or outdated,!it’s all in good fun. It just sucks when people take it too far and harass the dude for making a video they disagree with and don’t add to the discussion as that’s what the game theorist community is supposed to be, a community where many theorists can come together and discuss different theories and perspectives with an open mind. Even if MatPat’s theories can be outlandish and or even ‘controversial’, he’s just throwing ideas out there and see what his viewers think and he even admits that they can be ridiculous and way out there. Sorry for the long comment, just trying to ig in a way defend game theory especially when he made his recent video talking about how people were attacking/harassing other theorists including himself or up and coming theorists that are joining the fnaf fandom so I just got a little defensive when Alicia mentioned his genshin videos(which I completely understand btw).

MATPAT DID A ONE PIECE THEORY!!!! I am an avid Game/Film theorists channel viewer and I've seen the One Piece episode he did. I'm not sure it's one you'd want to react to since it's about One Piece's planets structure and how it would work realistically. I wasn't really a fan of that one since it felt like it took away from the world building in the One Piece canon. Definitely fun to learn about weather patterns and how a planets landscape and oceanic bodies affect the weather, I personally just found value in real world weather statistics more than when those stats were compared against the show. Still a fun video in the educational sense.

So, the thing about FNAF lore is that it has VERY little in terms of actual story being told, except for the books when taken at face value. Instead, each release in the FNAF franchise as well as some sneaky stuff happening in between have certain clues that can be used to construct a narrative. Basically, the whole thing is a puzzle, but only a certain amount of pieces is released at a time. Some of the pieces fit together, some don't, and it's usually enough to imagine what the whole picture may look like, but you never know for sure if you are correct until the next set is released. It's a dialogue between a storyteller and the inquisitive audience.
