I would also recommend GiBi's 9 hour behemoth, which goes through the games in release order much like those old Game Theory videos, giving breakdowns of each one, then the last hour and a half is his complete timeline, which follows the same broad strokes as Matpat's, but changes around a few key details timeline-wise, and also places a lot more emphasis on the minigames and Henry's side of things, which is a very cool concept that's very underexplored in Matpat's version.

There is one major point that he uses to connect all the other points that turns out to be wrong, so the structure he set up falls apart, but he was on the right track with most of the smaller points. You should also watch his GTLive videos reacting to other theories about the series. There are a lot of points that they bring up that Matt eventually incorporates into his own theories.

His 4th video on this timeline is pure speculation because at the time this released, he didn't have enough info to make a solid theory and when the dlc released it's made his theory look way worse than it was. Best thing to do is watch it with a grain of salt and don't believe any of it as fact. It's a disproven theory but it allows you to see what the collective thoughts of the time, of part of the fandom. The other half of the fandom was up in arms because it's such a speculative theory with little to no proof to make it plausible. After you finish this series you need to watch Fuhnaff's theories of the more modern fnaf. Fuhnaff has a really keen eye for searching for secrets that even surprised Mattpat.

So the alternative theory to what Matpat presents here is that Circus Baby's and the events of Sister Location happen earlier: 1985 is William Afton's initial murder spree, and 1987 is when FNAF 2 happens (the next earliest point in the timeline, Gameplay-wise) Matpat places Circus Baby's later down the line, and has Mike come across it after all of the FNAF locations close in '93, making him a security guard for the empty buildings after everything is closed. I think it's perfectly reasonable for Circus Baby's to be opened between 85 and 87, and Mike, recently 18, is brought in by his father to help out in bringing his little brother and sister back to life, only for Mike to discover the truth, get SCOOPED, and swear to stop his father. This avoids the issue of the Sister Location animatronics being designed for kidnapping kids (William has already murdered and is beginning to experiment with remnant, so he's designing new robots for that purpose between his first murder spree in '85 and the second Fazbear location opening in '87), but also makes it so that Mike is actually working as the night security guard at those locations while they're open in '87 and '93 respectively. He's not hunting down clues about his long-disappeared father, he's searching for his father who has gone missing and is still on the loose. This keeps the events generally in sequence (and dodges the issue of the animatronics already being dismantled like they would be if Mike was coming to these locations after '93), while also adding a thematic element where Mike and William keep just barely missing one another: William is working day shift at the FNAF 2 location in '87 and Mike comes in to work night shift RIGHT AFTER his father leaves, then Mike is working night shift at FNAF 1 in '93, with his father stuck in a boarded up secret room somewhere in the building, neither knowing the other is there.

The FNAF book trilogy - The Silver Eyes, The Twisted Ones, and The Fourth Closet, in that order - is an alternate universe that’s SIMILAR to the game series. It’s the fanbase’s job to piece together how the book trilogy and games are similar, i.e. more hoops for us to jump through. Major spoiler for the books: The book trilogy goes as far as to portray animatronics rising from the ground like zombies. In the Midnight Motorist game in Pizzeria Sim, I believe it’s not Michael’s brother buried in that one mound, but Fredbear - the animatronic that killed him. William and Michael most likely buried Fredbear, and the brother’s spirit starts to haunt Michael. That’s why a single animatronic footprint is visible, yet the mound remains untouched. And, that’s why there are so many hallucinations of Golden Freddy. Outside of mini games, the physical suit is never seen until Ultimate Custom Night. Maybe an empty body possessed by 2 souls is powerful enough to cause hallucinations? Side Note - Maybe the Phantoms are actually there because the salvaged animatronic parts have remnant in them, and both they and Molten Freddy (Ennard/metal spaghetti monster in Pizzeria Sim) needed to burn so they could finally rest? I dunno.

Part 4 is technically outdated but its what MatPat put together with all the info we had at the time so its still worth watching to understand any corrections later.

Except even then it didn't make much sense. Like apparently Matpat forgot how much time passed between games considering he said that a 90+ old woman would want to bring her family back together.

Basically, watch the fourth video if you want to; don't stress if you'd rather not, though. I think he did pretty good with how little information we had available to run off at the time. Still, a lot of people really can't handle the idea that someone else might have a theory they disagree with, and they got real outta pocket with Mat over it. Man is just trying to feed his family and build a compelling narrative with the clues he's given. It ain't that deep, but people took it personally.

Watch pt 4 if you want to (Matpat has brought it up recently that A LOT of his theories have been dismissed only for them to have been more in line with the narrative of the game than any of the popular theories at the time) it’s still most likely wrong but it does bring up an alternate perspective than a lot of other currently running theories. It’s also not his most recent theory on the games since ruin and more recent books definitely disproved him so I’d say watching the 4th part would be best done with the more recent theories of his where he discusses and disproves his own theories

The fourth video on Matpat's old timeline video is basically outdated. You could certainly still watch it, but always remember that the content is already outdated and the new "story" would be theorized more in the future. For now, up until The Ultimate Custom Night (UCN) the story had already locked in and widely accepted. It's just the new game are newly established that we don't know how the story supposedly goes yet. Still, watch the fourth video.

The timeline is messed up because the game creator planned for fnaf 4 to be the last in the series(i think that was written by him in the fnaf 4 steam page)and it's timeline suggests that the crying child actually saw his sister dying and he was the actual protagonist of fnaf 4 at first and William was scaring him from getting close to the animatronics so he doesn't get hurt but fnaf: sister location changed the lore of the series so that is why some parts in the series from fnaf 1 to fnaf 4 are weird or simply contradicts some other parts

I would say you should still watch the last part and then after watching it you can decide if you agree with his theory. Despite a lot of people didn't like the last part (especially the early part of the video) the whole video still had merits if you listen to his theories. What i like about Matpat he's not scared to say thing controversial despite the theory is quite absurd. In the end it's just theories not the actual fact.
