I would’ve included I’m Down but I mostly agree with the list.

i agree. i have the original capitol 45 of "help" and "i'm down." it was rare that anyone would even know of this classic, but sadly underrated, paul rocker. one beatle b-side i always liked more than the a-side was "thank you girl." the b-side to "from to you," which i never liked much. i think "thank you girl" is one of their most underrated early songs.

My favorite B Side is still "You Can't Do That". Amazing rocker.

George rocking out on Old Brown Shoe would get my vote. I also love Yes It Is (A-side Ticket To Ride) and For You Blue (A-side The Long and Winding Road).

Their best B-side is Strawberry Fields. The single, with PennyLane as the A-side, is easily one of the greatest in pop/rock history. That was George Martin's opinion, anyway.

one thing the beatles were famous for "inventing" was the double a-sided single. they also helped usher in the idea of entire albums that stood alone as a single artistic expression and, later, the concept album. the beatles refused to place singles on albums. they thought it was double-selling the song. only the american capitol albums had singles on them. one beatle b-side i always liked more than the a-side was "thank you girl." the b-side to "from to you," which i never liked much. i think "thank you girl" is one of their most underrated early songs.

Great choices. Although I'm surprised I Am the Walrus didn't get an honourable mention. My fave B-side, and among my favourite Beatles tracks ever, is This Boy. The harmonies are just sublime.

Some 63 singles were issued with the Beatles names, a few with Tony Sheridan, others from the Bert Kaempfert sessions, some only in Europe or the UK, some only in the US, and several in Canada. Choosing only those included in the Past Masters compilation is as relevant as voting for someone because they wore a purple boutonniere. Not every song on Past Masters set was a single. Bad Boy was originally recorded for the US Beatles' VI release, along with Dizzy Miss Lizzy, also included on the original version of Help! The songs from the Yellow Submarine soundtrack are included because that album was not released in the UK. What is pertinent is the change from throwaway nothings, to often important songs, and a bigger canvas for the artist. Looking at all the Beatles' singles, once quickly notices how little repetition there was, mostly in the early years. By 1965, the band was churning out hits and albums with near autonomic regularity. Ticket to Ride helped create Metal (enlarging the trend started with I Feel Fine, and Bad Boy), with some help from the Yardbirds, the Rolling Stones, and the Who. You've Got to Hide Your Love Away (not a single for the Beatles, but a hit for the Silkie) started Folk-Rock, with help from Dylan, Donovan, and the Byrds. The songs from Magical Mystery Tour were not on an album, when released in the UK. They were part of a set of singles, now a collector's item. Only US fans saw the release of the Magical Mystery Tour LP, with Side One the UK singles, without the four-color booklet/sleeve that gave it panache, with Side Two made up of singles and B-sides. Whatever the case, the Beatles changed B-sides from the graveyard of underproduced, treacly songs, instrumentals, or nephew-of-the-studio-owner-wrote-a-song lyrics, to vital offerings only slightly less dynamic than their A-sides. Several of the songs you mention were parts of "double A-side" singles, Revolution, She's a Woman, etc. That was the impact the Beatles had on music and recording. John Lennon started everything, when he argued for Day Tripper as the "A-Side", over We Can Work It Out, accepting a compromise that officially created the practice. Bands began to realize, they had two chances to win fans over, but only a few artists would take advantage of this, probably on advise of record company, and/or financial advisor, but some great 2A singles came from the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys, Creedence Clearwater, Carole King, Elvis, et al. A good list...especially Rain...one of the greatest songs of all time....but what about "The Inner Light"?.....for my money it's the best example of George's Indian influenced songs....the melody is to die for....even Paul thought so

I am the Walrus seems to have slipped away from its prominence over the years. When I was a teen in the 70's it seemed to be in the top 10 or 15 Beatles records. These days it seems to no longer be noticed, and that's sort of the inverse for Rain.

Always loved You Can't Do That - it's one of my favourite Beatles songs. But it was on the Hard Day's Night album. This list is compiled from b-sides from stand-alone singles.
