I’ve really been enjoying your books, including outliers. Have you ever studied Ulysses S Grant? His success seems to defy a lot of things you discuss. Just curious on your take on that. There are some other similar situations like that in the civil war, including Stonewall Jackson, and Lincoln himself. But grant stands out the most to me.

The normalcy of guns in the US is mind blowing. The energy they put into mopping up after a shooting needs to go into stopping a shot being fired in the first place

The self identity of the mass shooter is tied up with the image of the weapon they wield. This is why banning just one or two of the functionally identical weapons makes a difference. It makes no intuitive sense to well adjusted people. But well adjusted people aren't the problem. At the end, the lack of direction was disappointing. You mentioned the disappointment in how government deals with this set of related issues. Continuous incremental improvement of how we talk about and address these widespread issues is what is needed. My suggestion for a future series: What a governance quality assurance program is or could be.

Hi Malcolm, I am so surprised that your viewership is not...what I would aspect for such a high quality program. Would it be an idea to analyze why quality in entertainment/journalism/content...is not patronize as poor quality content is...why do humans consume not good items when high quality item are priced the an available? Forgive any typos.

Perhaps I missed it, perhaps it ties in with 'moral hazard'... Trauma centers don't simply address gun violence, but all sorts of other traumas. Just looking at my metro area, there are way more old people (who have life-threatening falls) in suburbia where gun violence isn't as prevalent. There are more high speed auto accidents (on freeways), away from the city center, which has more gun violence. Construction injuries happen in areas where there is more building - ie, suburbia. Placement of a trauma center isn't just about treating victims of gun violence.

Why does Mr. Gladwell continue to say - in both this episode and episode 3 - that assault rifles were not/are not banned in assault weapons bans? From the text of the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, the Colt AR-15 and copies/duplicates of it were banned. Not just accessories. The AR-15 was specifically named as a banned weapon. My off-topic comment: why do you say unquote before saying the quote? And why use quotes when not actually quoting anyone, and everyone understands what you mean?

Here is what I want: Not MG and his leftist liberal friends sitting and talking in soft voices about how awful guns are. Invite another guest, a Second Amendment advocate and gun owner. Not a gun nut. Not a strident, yelling, 'Murica guy. Just a nice person who will speak when asked. When presented a question. These folks have no experience with weapons, and no understandinkdg of that part of American culture. Not looking for conflict or debate, just have a nice discussion with multiple points of view. We would all benefit. I am a gun owner, and I am listening to this whole series to understand and even to change my thinking. More people than you think are open-minded and looking for solutions.

U miss the point. The real story is the disparity of violence and education in inner city US. Hints: J Edgar Hoover and vice districts.
